The FA are launching a new scheme called the ‘FA Pitch Improvement Programme' Demand for improved facilities is still as high now as it was in 2001 when the Football Foundation was launched. The recent National Grassroots survey had 83% of respondents requesting investment into facilities and natural grass pitches is high on the list of needs identified. It has been the ambition of the FA Facilities team to deliver a pitch improvement programme for some time. Pitch conditions are suffering especially in the economic climate due to lack of investment and a general lack technical knowledge. A suitable programme is required to provide clubs with expert advice at a cost that is affordable at the grass roots level. 

In partnership with the Institute of Groundsmanship the Facilities and Investment team at the FA has compiled a national list of professional grounds men that can serve each County FA in providing local visits and share their expertise. A club needs to inform the County FA of its desire to access this service and the CFA will arrange for a visit where each club will receive a written report detailing any issues highlighted. It is reasonably priced (circa £100 plus expenses). This is a new service being offered as clubs have not generally been able to access decent advice re: pitches because it's just too costly at £2,000 on average per inspection! 

Each inspection would deliver a maintenance plan for the club linked to the IOG winter pitches manual which will be left on the day of the visit which also outlines how basic maintenance should be carried out. The club will also be left with information as to how to access further training and support through the IOG grounds man courses.

I currently have a budget set aside to support a small number of clubs with this programme, these will be issued on a first come first served basis, so please contact me ASAP if you are interested!

All pitches and facilities are closed for this weekend as the surfaces are unplayable now and very likely to get worse. This closure includes training. As there is a two week break pending we hope to get to some of the worn areas sanded and seeded next week so hopefully there will be a dry day or two.

We have done similar in Bath against Welsh teams and we would like to travel down South for a weekends football as a club. We intend to travel by coach, bring u8s / u9s / u10s / u11s / u12s / u13s / u14s / u15s / u16s and two girls teams.

We wish to travel Saturday am - first fixture in the afternoon, something social in the evening. Sunday fixture, farewell and return to Bath. This is a challenge and would be a fantastic experience for the players. We look to make friends through football up and down the country and internationally.
