Pinhoe Tournament 2010 - Alphington Lions run out winners

The Alphington Lions were the eventual winners of the Pinhoe 2010 summer tournament,

On a boiling hot day the Lions managed 10 goals in the group stages with Elliot Thomas conceding only three, James Dodd, Alex Owens and Tom prout sharing the goals between them,, In the semis we played a great Sidmouth side who took an early lead through an unfortunate own goal, We soon replied with yet another James Dodd goal and it looked certain that we were heading to extra time and the dreaded penalties,with good work from Harry Wellaway, Ben Shear and Ethan Matthews, the ball broke free to James who took on two Sidmouth players on the left wing and crossed a peach of a ball through to Ruan Ellis who was waiting on the back post to slot the ball home to score the winner.

The final was against the hosts Pinhoe who had reached the semis with a closely fought penalty shoot out versus West Exe, this was a close game with Alphingtons Jake Thomas coming close in the first half who smashed the ball against the upright, again extra time loomed until with only seconds left Lions hot shot James Dodd went on a solo run on the left wing, beat numerous players and calmly kept his nerve and drilled the ball into the back of the net to gain Alphington Lions their first (hopefully not last) trophy.

Jake Faulkner and Callum Lewis played their part in what turned out to be a great day.
