Under 10's Cup Final - Alphington Rockets 2 v 0 West Hill WaspsA tight and tense game saw Alphington Rockets eventually win the Final at St James Park. West Hill Wasps started the brighter of the two teams and nearly scored within the opening minute of the game. The Rockets played their usual quality passing game and created several half chances, however the Wasps keeper was in commanding form and stopped everything the Rockets could fire at him. As the first half progressed, both teams settled into fine flowing football. The Wasps always looked capable of catching the Rockets on the counter attack. This took some determined defending from Jack Cutting and Oliver Saunders to prevent the Wasps scoring. The second half started much the same as the first half had ended, with both teams attacking, without scoring. The turning point in the game, midway through the half, was when The Wasps striker had a powerful shot which was destined for the Rockets goal but was unbelievably tipped over the crossbar by keeper James Bovey. Immediately after this, the ball dropped to Luke White, who controlled it with his chest, the ball fell perfectly and a wonderful right foot shoot flew into the Wasps net. With the deadlock broken, this spurred The Rockets on and with about five minutes left to play winger James Dodd rounded the Wasps defender and drilled the ball into the goal to make it 2-0. The final whistle blew and the celebration for The Rockets started. This was a fantastic squad performance and capped an excellent season for the Rockets. Finally, West Hill wasps were quality opponents and fully played their part in this match and were magnanimous in defeat. Rockets Man of the Match James Bovey Stoke Hill Celtic win the league by a single pointStoke Hill Celtic 6 v Whipton 1. Stoke Hill took an early lead with goals from Ethan Ampadu, Dan Hodges & Harry Pollard. Second half substitutes Ollie Evans & Joe Ballkwill both got on the scoresheet with Balkwill scoring twice to extend the lead to 6-0. Whipton scored a deserved consolation goal late in the game. Stoke Hill Celtic 5 v Exmouth Amatures 2. Stoke Hill knew they had to win this game to win the League by a single a point. However the pressure & nerves eased as Stoke Hill Celtic raced into a 2-0 early lead with the first goal by Ethan Ampadu & then the second a wonderful volley by Dan Hodges which crashed into the far corner from a difficult angle. Captain Harry Pollard looked to have won the game & the league with a third goal, but Exmouth kept the champagne on ice by scoring themselves on the stroke of half time. Second half sub Freddie James scored twice to seal the League title helping Stoke Hill Celtic to a 5-2 win. This was the last match at Stoke Hill for Ethan Ampadu, Joe Balkwill & Oliver Evans who have contracts next season at the Exeter City Centre of Excellence.

Stoke Hill Rangers - Matchday ReportExmouth Amateurs U10's v Stoke Hill Rangers U10's 3-0 Inter Heavitree - Matchday ReportBroadclyst 1 v Inter Heavitree 7 The early stages of this game were quite even with Broadclyst defending well and stopping Inter Heavitree from breaking through. Josh Bennett combined well with Harry Dolan and as the ball broke loose Tyler Davis seized on the chance and shot hard and low to beat the Broadclyst goalkeeper and open the scoring. Once the first goal went in Inter grew in confidence and Jack Lethbridge, playing his best game for Inter Heavitree, took on the Broadclyst defence and earned a corner. Harry took the corner and Matt Burchell, having come up from defence volleyed in. Then came five minutes where Tyler grabbed control of the game, with two great individual runs ending in fine shots to complete a fine first half hat-trick. Broadclyst battled well but each time they tried to break through Charlie Ricketts and Matt Burchell cleared comfortably and the half ended 4-0. For the second half Jed Wright came on for Tyler and Josh Herbert came on up front. Again Inter dominated possession but could not break through with the goalie saving well from Jed and Josh hitting the crossbar. However the pressure eventually caused a mistake in the Broadclyst defence as a defender deflected a Harry Dolan corner. Then after the goalkeeper pulled off another good save Josh Herbert sent in a cross from the left and Jed Wright tapped in for Inter's 6th. Inter continued to press and Harry hit the crossbar and from the rebound Jack Lethbridge shot in for a well-deserved first goal of the season. In the last minute Broadclyst broke quickly and scored well for a great consolation goal. Man of the Match: Tyler Davis (although Jack Lethbridge ran him close)
Cullompton Rangers 1 v Inter Heavitree 1 The second match was a well contested game between two very committed teams. Inter Heavitree dominated possession and territory but Cullompton always looked dangerous on the break. Indeed it was a quick free flowing break down the right by Cullompton that opened the scoring with the final shot just creeping under Matthew Davison's diving body and into the net. Inter Heavitree battled back and a good passing move ended with a foul just outside the area. Jed Wright took the free kick and his shot could only be deflected past the goalkeeper by a Cullompton defender for the equaliser. Inter continued to press and the goalkeeper did well to just stop another Jed Wright shot on the line with Harry Dolan just failing to bundle in the rebound. The second half continued with much of the same but the two defences proved strongest with Matt Burchell and Josh Bennett for Inter cutting out any breaks from the Rangers whilst Josh Herbert, Harry Dolan, Tyler Davis and Jed contined to be frustrated by the Cullompton defence as they searched for a winner. It was not to be and the match ended in a well-deserved 1-1 draw. Man of the Match: Josh Bennett Tedburn Panthers Matchday ReportTedburn Panthers (2) - Sidmouth Raiders (0) Good football was played by both sides in this match. The 1st goal was scored by Archie with a direct shot at the goal which the keeper just missed with his fingers. There were a couple of goal mouth scrambles at both ends of the pitch but with a pass from Jamie, Archie was again able to place a 2nd goal in the bottom corner of the Sidmouth Raiders goal. There were good saves from Adam, the Tedburn goalie, and sterling support from the Edward and Owen the defenders. Tedburn had good midfield support throughout the game with Tom, Michael, David and Theo pushing the ball and the strikers through the Raiders defence. Tedburn Panthers (1) - Sidmouth Warriors (1) This was a very closely contended match. Both sides pushed their strikers up the pitch and there were many goal mouth scrambles at both ends. The defence for Tedburn worked well together and only a misunderstanding letting in a goal. With a shot from outside the box Tom W powered his shot over the Sidmouth's goalkeeper into the top corner to even the scores. Jamie had two shots at Sidmouth's goal and only his good goalkeeping skills stopped Tedburn from going in the lead. AC Heavitree - matchday reportCULLUMPTON 1 - 1 AC HEAVITREE Straight from the start Jack Kennedy was causing trouble for Cullumpton as he made several commanding runs down the left wing. After cutting inside, one of these resulted in a powerful shot on goal, but this was easily caught by the Cullumpton keeper. Alex Green, in the role of lone striker, was closely marked by a determined Cullumpton defence, and an early chance was snuffed out quickly. AC seemed to be taking the game to Cullumpton with some good midfield passing and moving. Jack Hector was particularly skilful, and it was his determination on the right wing that led to a Jack Smith cross for Alex Green to finally find the back of the net with a clever flick past the Cullumpton goalkeeper. AC continued to apply pressure, but despite winning a number of corners and a free kick, they could not extend their lead. Cullumpton defended well, seeking to attack on the break, and this created a number of good chances. After a clearance by the AC defence, Cullumpton won a throw-in on the left hand side. AC were slow to clear this, and were punished by conceding a goal late in the half. A number of minor injuries were sustained in the first half, and the second saw Charlie King replace Alex Green up front, but the team remained effectively unchanged. Cullumpton came out with real determination after the break, and this led to a well-balanced and exciting match. Both sides created chances, and each demonstrated some good defending. Jack Hector again showed enormous determination to win the ball. However, AC were relieved when a Cullumpton corner was headed just over the bar. Then, a similar sequencev at the other end saw Jack Kennedy do the same from Jack Smith's well-placed cross. In the end, neither side could break the deadlock, and the game resulted in a 1-1 draw. Heavitree MOTM - Jack Hector BROADCLYST 0 - 6 AC HEAVITREE AC made a number of changes for the second game of the day, with Nat Jones, Ceirwyn and Alex Norris making appearances, and with Alfie Young in goal. From the outset AC Heavitree took command of the game with good passing and individual moves. Nat Jones was unlucky not to take an early chance when he shot wide. Later, Jack Smith sent in a long looping shot to Broadclyst's left hand post, where it was touched in by Nat, giving AC their first goal. Jack then demonstrated his individual skill as he picked up a pass from Charlie King, made his way through the penalty area and shot from close range to make it 2-0. Broadclyst then came back at AC, threatening the AC goal and winning a corner. Jasper Freestone came on for Alex Norris. Jasper was as surprised as the rest of the team when the manager told him to put on a red and black stripy shirt in place of his usual goalkeeper's colours, and get up front. There was a period in which Broadclyst continued to pressure AC and to break down the midfield. However, AC reorganised in the second half, with Jack Kennedy coming on in midfield and Alex Green in defence to support Luke Matthews. Arron Hollwell came on to bundle in the third goal from Jasper's pass. This combination nearly worked again when Jasper cleverly back-heeled into Arron's path, only for Arron to miss a sitter. Jasper got his own taste for scoring a moment later when Jack Kennedy set him up for a tap-in. Towards the end of the game, Arron thanked his team-mates again after their careful passing allowed him to score twice more to win a hat-trick. But with the AC midfield hungry for more goals, they left too much space behind them, and Broadclyst were able to break a number of times. Fortunately, Alfie was completely focussed when he found himself one-on-one with a Broadclyst striker, and was able to deflect a powerful shot wide with his legs to keep a clean sheet. Countess Wear 1 v Stoke Hill Celtic 2.Stoke Hill Celtic took the lead a couple of minutes before half-time, when substitute Ethan Amapadu scored after dribbling his way into the box. Stoke Hill Celtic almost doubled their lead, but Countess Wear keeper, Liam Western, made a great save pushing an Ollie Evans shot onto the post & then saved well from a Morgan Pearce drive. Countess Wear equalised when a shot wriggled over the line, despite the best efforts of Stoke Hill keeper, John-Morgan Ross, to keep the ball out. Ross then cleared well when there was a goal mouth scramble. Stoke Hill Celtic won the game when a low driven cross from Ollie Evans, was expertly guided into the net by Joe Balkwill. Both teams played decent passing football in an entertaining game. Moors Stars Match report.Moors Star went to brixington and exmouth with only 7 players today to play there matches, unfortunatley 5 min into the match against brixington one of the Stars players got an injury and was unable to play for the remainder of the games, even so the two early goals scored when the Stars were up to 7 players proved enough to get the win in a great game. the second game saw the Stars play exmouth, the game was close but the 6 players of Moors Stars battled very hard and were desperatly unlucky to conceed a goal in the early part of the first half, Moors Star finished the first half realy strong forcing the exmouth keeper to make some good saves. The second half saw the Stars continue from where they left off pushing exmouth back in there own half, Stars hit the post straight from the start and again mid way through the half, Stars then had a goal disallowed, and a penalty shout the ref put the whistle to his mouth to give then changed his mind, all in all a frustrating game for the 6 players who played extremely well and were by far the stronger side on the day. well done to all the Stars boys. AC Heavitree - matchday reportAC HEAVITREE 3 V WHIPTON YOUTH 0. AC kicked off and started brightly, putting Whipton under pressure straight away. A good run down the right wing by Jack Hector creating the first chance which was shot just wide. The AC midfield were dominating most of the play, and it wasn't long before Jack Smith tested the Whipton keeper with a shot, which he saved well. Both teams battled for while ,with Luke Matthews and Natty Jones brought into play in defence to thwart a couple of Whipton attacks.AC looked certain to score when a superb cross from Jack Hector fell to Alex Norris, unfortunately the striker's touch let him down and the goalie collected the ball. The deadlock was finally broken after some good passing by AC, when Jack Hector's cross into the box fell to Jack Kennedy who fired the ball home with clinical left foot shot into the bottom corner. Fired up Whipton pressed forward looking for an equaliser, their pressure earning them a few corners which were dangerously close to getting them back in the game. Jasper Freestone saved one corner that was curling into the goal at his near post to maintain Heavitree's lead. The AC midfield continued to just have the upper hand , both Jack's Smith and Hector shooting wide, and Jack Kennedy forcing the Whipton Keeper to make another fine save. But Kennedy found the back of the net for his second goal with a powerful shot that gave the keeper no chance. Just before half time the Whipton keeper pulled off yet another save from Alex Norris to keep the score line 2-0. The Whipton Youth side came on stronger in the second half, but AC managed to deal with attacks they mounted, Luke Matthews proving yet again to be a rock in defence. Jack Smith weaved his way through a packed midfield and looked sure to score but fired into the keeper, twice!! The passing of AC made the third goal of the match , when all three Jacks linked up , Jack Smith to Kennedy to Hector who duly slotted home through the keepers legs. AC looked good for their 3-0 lead and although Whipton never gave up, the match was could have ended with more AC goals if not for an outstanding performance my the Whipton keeper and some poor finishing at times by AC. Well done both teams. AC MOTM. JACK KENNEDY. AC HEAVITREE 0 V COUNTESS WEAR DYNAMOES 6. Well if ever there were two contrasting matches. AC buoyed by their win in the first match were looking to take the game to the Dynamoes, but it never happened. Constant pressure and good passing kept AC from getting into the game. AC soon found themselves chasing the game and shellshocked falling behind 4-0 in the first half, after some good finishing by a dangerous Dynamoes striker and midfield. The second half proved slightly more evenly contested, but still Dynamoes dominated the game , with AC rarely troubling the CWD goal. the only chances of note falling to Jack Kennedy who headed wide from a Charlie King cross, and both he and Jack Smith shooting wide.Jack Hector nearly scored a consolation goal for AC after a determined solo effort to battle his way through a number of CWD players, but also shot wide.Dynamoes added further goals and finished easy winners, proving to be too strong for AC today. Inter Heavitree - Matchday ReportInter Heavitree 1 v Countess Wear Dynamoes 5 The final score belies how close this game was in the first half. Inter Heavitree played three across the back with Brandon George, Matt Burchell and Josh Bennett defending strongly and frustrating a strong Countess Wear side. Chances were even as Jed Wright, Tyler Davis and Josh Herbert combined well in midfield to cause Countess Wear problems as well. A big goal kick from Liam Western led to an opening goal for Countess Wear Dynamoes but Inter Heavitree battled back with Tyler Davis equalising to make it a well deserved 1-1 at the break. Charlie Ricketts came on after the break but could do little as Inter failed to deal with Liam's big kick outs and after less than 3 minutes of the second half they found themselves 3-1 down. Inter rallied for a while but ended up well beaten as Reece Saunders tormented the Heavitree defence on the way to an impressive hat-trick. Man of the Match: Matt Burchell Inter Heavitree 2 v Whipton Youth 1 Inter Heavitree started the second game strongly with Tyler Davis working hard in midfield and combining well with Charlie Ricketts and Josh Herbert to set up several chances for Jack Lethbridge up front. Inter dominated possession but as the half progressed Whipton Youth grew into the game and started to look dangerous on the break. Josh Herbert finally broke the deadlock with a strong left footed shot into the corner of the goal to send Inter Heavitree into half time one goal up. After the break Inter continued to press with Jed Wright to the fore. However they hadn't heeded the warnings and from a Heavitree throw in deep in the Whipton half, Whipton broke quickly and despite a desperate chase from Inter's midfield they moved the ball well and scored a good equaliser. Whipton grew in confidence and as the game became more open it could have gone either way. However with moments to go Heavitree won a corner which Josh Herbert took and Tyler Davis met with a poweful volley to win the game. Man of the Match: Tyler Davis Pinhoe Spears - Matchday Report
Stoke Hill Celtic - Matchday ReportStoke Hill Celtic 0 v Dawlish 2. This was a strong performance from Dawlish who fully deserved their victory. Stoke Hill Celtic with one eye on next season rested their Exeter City Centre of Excellence players who will not be available to play next season. The Dawlish midfield dominated & after four or five long shots that nearly ended in the Stoke Hill Celtic net eventually they did score from distance. Dawlish scored again from the penalty spot to clinch the game. Although Stoke Hill Celtic did not manage any shots on target during the game, defenders Tom Cox & Joe Blackwell played superbly in keeping the score down to just 2-0. Stoke Hill Celtic 2 St Martins 0. In an uneventfull first half, Man of the Match Tom Cox almost opened the scoring when he crashed a shot against the St Martin's crossbar. First half goalkeeper Morgan Pearce, played outfield second half & opened the scoring with a terrific drive into the net from 20 yards. Morgan Pearce then turned provider when he switched play from left back to Freddie James on the right wing, who set up Dan Hodges to score. Striker Freddie James worked hard, showed some good touches & will grow in confidence for the games ahead. CW Dynamoes - Matchday ReportHeavitree Inter 1 C.W.D 5 SPEARS MATCH REPORT 27th March 2010

Central City Match reports Saturday 27th March 2010West Hill Wasps 3-0 Central City The opening ten minutes of the game against West Hill Wasps was evenly contested. Central came close to scoring when Callum Davison was put through on goal. As the keeper advanced to narrow the angle he shot inches wide of the far post. From that moment on West Hill began to dominate possession and took the game to Central. They went ahead with a goal poked in from close range and scored a fortunate second when an attempted cross from the right travelled high into the far corner of the goal. West Hill were the stronger team in the second half and scored a deserved third goal with another effort from long range. Callum Davison showed brilliant forward play for Central leading the line upfront. He was strong against the West Hill players who marked him closely and he kept his composure throughout in the face of some uncompromising defending from the opposition. Will Cashere did especially well in midfield making runs up the pitch when we attacked with the ball and then running back into defensive positions when we lost the ball. Hemyock 1-1 Central City Central started this game strongly with great team spirit. Toby Criss and Joe Glenny winning the tackles needed to take possession of the ball and once in control the midfield trio of Fin Gregory, Harvey Young and Will Brown passed the ball forward quickly and accurately between each other to create momentum in our attacks. It was Hemyock who took the lead against the run of play with a well finished counter attacking goal. To our credit we did not allow this moment to affect our positive forward play and we continued to attack the opposition. The equaliser came before half time when Toby Criss, supporting the attack by from defence, hit a powerful shot from long range which deflected past the keeper into the goal. In the second half Hemyock attacked well. The Central defence was resilient and made blocks and tackles that in turn set up our own counter attacks, almost resulting in a second goal. An away point was secured thanks to some superb goalkeeping by Joe Heggadon. He made several crucial saves including in the final minute when he reacted brilliantly to tip a powerful shot over the bar. AC Heavitree - matchday reportDAWLISH 4 - 0 AC HEAVITREE After a run of games without a win, AC were looking to improve their record at Dawlish by taking home some points. An early chance was allowed for Dawlish to cross in front of the AC goal. Fortunately, nobody was able to get on the end of it, and AC were spared an early setback. Dawlish continued to put pressure on the AC defence. A series of short range shots were not cleared effectively, and Dawlish were rewarded with their first goal. Then, after a fine clearance from defence, Alex Green and Alex Norris linked together at the other end to put Norris in for a chance on goal, forcing some hasty back-pedalling from Dawlish. Dawlish were quick to counter-attack, and a goalmouth scramble was dragged back for a ranged shot, putting the ball in Jasper Freestone's net for the second time. Shortly after the restart, AC were slow to clear the ball again, leading to another Dawlish goal. Just before half-time, AC regained the initiative. Some tireless running and midfield passing moves from Alex Green and Alex Norris put Charlie King in with a chance from a fine angle. Charlie's shot lifted high in the air, and the Dawlish goalkeeper could only just tip the ball over the bar to save a certain goal. A number of substitutions were made by the manager throughout the second half. The introduction of Arron Hollwell, Jack Hector and Jack Kennedy brought some fresh legs into the game. AC created a number of chances, but Dawlish put in some effective tackles to clear their lines. Dawlish were always a threat, and managed to win a corner towards the end of the match. AC could not clear the ball away and a simple tap-in was enough to secure Dawlish's fourth goal. Despite a number of bright moves down the pitch in the closing minutes, AC remained unable to break through the Dawlish defence. Heavitree MOTM - Alex Green St Martins 0 - 3 AC HEAVITREE AC focussed their first half efforts on defending well, with only Alex Green as the lone striker. The team were successful in maintaining possession despite significant pressure from Exminster. Key to this were Luke Matthews and Arron Hollwell in defence, who were really quick to intercept the Exminster attack. The whole team worked really hard at tight-marking the Exminster danger-men whenever AC found themselves without the ball. Building on this strong foundation, AC were able to attack on the break, with notable chances created by wingers Jack Kennedy and Jack Smith. However, the match was goal-less at half-time. In the second half, and with the slope of the pitch in his favour, Jasper Freestone's long goal-kicks allowed Alex Green to draw the Exminster defence deep into their own half. This created space in the midfield for some excellent passing, and AC dominated possession throughout. AC won a corner on the right hand side and all the manager's training-ground ranting paid off when an army of red shirts went forward to meet Jack Smith's perfectly-weighted corner. Jack Kennedy rose high above the crowd to head home from short range. 1 - 0 to AC Heavitree. A short while later a free-kick was awarded for Jack Smith to take just inside the Exminster half. Jack had only one thing on his mind, and floated a delicious strike over the crowd, which dipped just under the Exminster crossbar to make it 2 - 0. Then, at the other end, there was an anxious moment when Jasper managed a seemingly impossible save with his legs from a powerful shot from Dawlish. Nat James came on for Alex Green and was immediately involved in a chance from a Jack Hector cross. Despite missing the opportunity to score himself, Nat was able to link up with Jack moments later to grant him a simple tap-in to make the final score 3 - 0. The whole team were delighted to win their first game for a long time. Heavitree MOTM - Jack Smith. Brixington Blues v Stoke Hill Rangers U10's 0-1Rangers started this game full of spirit against a very good Brixington side. Warren O'Riordan who played just in front of the back two was outstanding, he swept up everything available and played some remarkable football, unlucky on a couple of occasions not to score himself. The whole team battled hard and took the first half into the break at 0-0. In the second half Rangers again were strong and by this time could have been 3 or 4 goals to the good all but for some excellent work by the Brixington keeper. Six minutes from time Jordan Sandford latched on to a poor goal kick from Brixington's keeper and sent a superb lob over his head to find the net. This was a fantastic game by all the Rangers players who eventually came out 1-0 winners. CW Dynamoes - Matchday ReportCountess Wear Dynamoes 3 Cullompton 1 Stoke Hill Celtic 1 v Brixington 0.Not for the first time in recent weeks Stoke Hill Celtic found themselves playing against an outstanding goalkeeper & the game looked destined to finish goal-less. However with a couple of minutes remaining the two under 9 players combined with Ethan Ampadu played a superb defence splitting pass to Ollie Evans who clipped the ball past the advancing keeper from a difficult angle to secure the victory. Stoke Hill Celtic keeper John-Morgan Ross was to not to be left out of the goalkeeping heroics, making an outstanding save of his own tipping a drive over his crossbar. Man of the match for Stoke Hill Celtic was Daniel Hodges who created a host of chances with great delivery from the left wing. Central City Matchday ReportCentral City U10s (0) v West Exe (2) City played very well in the first half holding the score at 0 - 0 against a strong side. Jaime Hammond, Joe Glenny, Will Caschere and Toby Criss had particularly good games. The midfield linked up well and used the space well with Harvey Young getting forward to attack and cross balls in for Callum Davison. When West Exe scored the boys did not give up and kept defending with all of the team running back. They put in a good team performance, had some chances on goal and were unlucky not to score. Central City U10s (0) v Alphington (6) Sadly, City let their heads go down when the first goal went in and didn't then play with their usual confidence and commitment. Toby Criss played well in defence and in the first half there was some passing football with a couple of shots on goal. Joe Heggadon made some crucial saves but at half time City were 3 nil down. There were some changes at half time and substitute goalie Harvey Young made some good saves. The midfield and defence tried to push forward but this left West Exe space to score three unstoppable goals. Tedburn Panthers - Matchday reportTwyford Celtic (4) V Tedburn Panthers 0Tedburn came up against a very good Twyford Celtic team who scored early on, Tedburn recovered well and immediately after the restart Jamie Pengilley was unlucky when his shot hit the post after a good passing move involving Archie Osborne and Tom Williams, this was another frustrating day for the Tedburn team who hit the woodwork on two more occasions with very good long range efforts from Tom Williams and Adam Stanbury from his own half. Twyfords pressure was relentless and forced some good saves from Owen Twigg in the Tedburn goal and their very good passing and vision payed off and Twyford went on to score again in the first half and twice more in the second half securing a deserved win. Man of the match - Jamie Pengilley Twyford Rangers (0) V Tedburn Panthers (12) Tedburn put the first game behind them and an unfortunate own goal from Twyford put an end to the Tedburn goal drought, Tedburn settled and went in at half time 8-0 up with 4 goals from Tom Williams, a goal from Archie Osborne, another unlucky own goal and a first goal for Tedburn from Owen Twigg, Twyford were unlucky not to score when they hit the post. Twyford were better in the second half and defended well, further goals from Jamie Pengilley, Archie Osborne, Theo Gray and Michael Wade completed the win for Tedburn. Man of Match - Michael Wade Inter Heavitree - Matchday ReportInter Heavitree 1 v Exmouth Amateurs 1 Inter Heavitree started well and soon fashioned the first chance of the match as Josh Herbert shot powefully from a tight angle and forced the Exmouth goalkeeper to push the ball behind for a corner. Exmouth cleared comfortably and it wasn't long before they took the lead. A long speculative shot beat the whole defence and Matthew Davison was unsighted as it dribbled past him and into the net. Inter were galvanised into action and went straight back up the other end and forced a corner. Exmouth had handled these easily so far but on this occasion Harry Dolan's delivery was excellent and Tyler Davis headed it in for a well taken equaliser. Exmouth roared back and nearly took the lead once more before the break but were kept out by a combination of Matthew Davison and the post. In the second half both sides had chances to take the lead with Charlie Ricketts blasting over for Inter and Matt Burchell and Haytham Hanna stopping everything in defence. With minutes to go Exmouth looked to have broken through decisively but Tyler Davis somehow got back to make a block and hold on for a well-deserved draw. Man of the Match: Tyler Davis Inter Heavitree 2 v Brixington Blues 2 Once again Inter started well with a fine passing move between Tyler Davis and Jack Lethbridge ending with Josh Herbert through on goal but the Blues goalkeeper saved well. Heavitree kept up the pressure and Tyler seized on a loose goal kick to beat two players and send in a strong shot which deflected off a defender and passed the unfortunate goalie. Minutes later Matt Burchell sent in a long trademark throw and Josh Herbert made himself space before hitting a shot into the corner of the goal. However Brixington Blues didn't let their heads go down and forced a corner, which went in off Haytham Hanna's back. Moments later they had equalised following a good flowing move. Inter Heavitree looked stunned as Brixington poured forward and Matthew Davison in goal had to be strong as he made a triple save just before half time. The second half was a good open game with Brixington dominating the early stages but Matt Burchell and Haytham Hanna defended superbly with Matthew Davison playing well in goal. Heavitree hung in and despite a nasty injury to Haytham, they ended up the stronger with Josh Herbert having two late chances that he put wide. AC Heavitree - matchday reportAC HEAVITREE 0 - 2 BRIXINGTON BLUES AC Heavitree pushed forward right from the starting whistle, and within a few minutes, Alex Green had headed the ball just wide after a corner. AC seemed to have most of the possession and were determined to win the ball in defence and midfield. The three Jacks and Alex made some interesting passing moves and there were a number of corners and loads of chances for Jack Kennedy and Jack Hector. But the Brixington goalkeeper was not letting anything get past him. It didn't look as if Jasper Freestone, in the AC goal, would have anything to do, until Brixington broke well, forcing the AC defence to give away a corner. After a loose clearance from Heavitree, the ball came to an unmarked Brixington player at the edge of the penalty area, who lifted his powerful long-range shot into the top-right corner. It was 1 - 0 to Brixington at half-time. Brixington stepped up a gear in the second half, and there were good moves from both sides. During one midfield tussle, Arron Hollwell headed the ball powerfully off the edge of the pitch, getting a direct hit on Sarah Hector's fresh cup of flask-coffee, which seemed to explode over her new pink fleece. Nice one Arron! AC continued to demonstrate good skilful play, putting a lot of pressure on the Brixington goal. However, Brixington were quick to break at speed. Jasper was strong in goal and quick to come off his line to close down their strikers during a number of attacks. Both sides were putting a lot of energy into the game and working well as teams. It was not surprising to see them looking a wee bit tired towards the last few minutes. In the closing moments Brixington caught the AC defence too far up the pitch, and linked well with a passing move that led to an easy goal. The final score did not reflect the enormous amount of effort and skillful passing that all of the AC team put into the game. They played well as a whole team, and there was a sense of shock and disbelief that they did not get at least one goal from the match. Heavitree MOTM - Jasper Freestone. AC HEAVITREE 0 - 5 EXMOUTH AMATEURS The first half was fairly well-balanced, with spells of pressure on both goals and some good defending. Again, AC sought to dominate the midfield, but often ran into traffic as Exmouth closed them down quickly. A number of chances fell to Jack Kennedy and Alex Norris. At the other end, Exmouth pressed deep into the AC penalty area. After one of their attacks, a scramble in the AC Heavitree goalmouth caused the ball to fall back to an Exmouth player, who wriggled free of his marker in the crowded penalty area and shot low past the unsighted Alfie into the net. Exmouth kept on with the pressure, and won a few corners, but these were robustly defended by Heavitree. It was 1 - 0 at half-time. The second half was a bit of a disaster for AC. Exmouth continued from the re-start at a pace and a level of organisation that AC Heavitree struggled to keep up with. AC kept the ball for some periods, and continued to make chances. They won a free kick in a good position, but Jack Kennedy found the wind a bit strong and it lifted the ball high and wide of the goal. At the other end, Exmouth made the most of their frequent chances, putting four more past Alfie before the end of the second half. Despite spirited battling in midfield throughout the second half to try to make chances, AC lacked pace in getting back to intercept the Exmouth through-balls from mid-field and were undone by their lobs over the top of the AC defence. Tiredness from a long morning's hard work meant that AC were not as quick with their marking in the second half, and Exmouth deserved their emphatic victory. Heavitree MOTM - Jack Smith. The surface of the pitch was perfect for The Rockets type of passing football. The first goal was scored by James Dodd , An unstoppable low powerful shot. Shortly afterwards Luke White run through the Twyford defence to poke the ball home. White scored again to make in 3-0 at half time The second half started with The Rockets passing well, however Tywford nicked a goal back. Culm - Matchday ReportCulm 1 v Tedburn Panthers 1 Culm travelled to Crediton on a lovely morning ( No rain ! No snow ! ) to plat there first game with Tedburn. Culm started with alot of pressure in the Tedburn half, but is was Tedburn who had the first near miss with a quick break, but Culm came back with a near miss with Conner Pengelly culm played some good switching football. But the first goal came from Tedburn with a good quick break which finished in a well placed goal.Kieran Fry made some real good passes with one landed to Pengelly who knocked straight at the keeper. Then it was the turn of Evan Lewis to have a shot on goal which hit the side netting. Then came a nail biting moment when Elliot Tancock had to pull off a outstanding save when he was faced with a one on one situation. Culm then came back on the break but again Lewis shot was saved by Tedburn's outstanding keeper and Tedburns defence stayed strong for the rest of that half no matter what Culm put there way. 2nd half The second half started with a strong and fast pace the boys football could not be faulted other than the could not find the back of the net.At last the goal came that Culm had been battling hard to get a great pass from Billy Greene to Pengelly who put it through to Lewis who finished it well. The first goal came with a mistake in a back pass which Crediton capitalised on and made a good shot count. Culm's heads did drop for a while then another near miss from Pengelly seam to make Culm put the pressure on again Then came a throw in from Billy Greene to Lewis who made sure that the ball went into the net. Culm's next goal was a well finished goal from Finley Mcclear who under pressure made sure his shot went into the bottom right corner 2nd Half The first shot of this half came from Greene who had battled hard to get the shot in. Culm's defence of Harry Evans and George Hawkins had to stay on there toes and had to make sure that they snuffed out some of Creditons well put together attacks.Even thow the flow of football was fast and furious niether side could get another goal. The play of football with these boys on both sides was outstanding and a great pleasure to watch Sidmouth Warriors - matchday ReportSidmouth Warriors U10's did exactly what the coaches asked of them giving 100% commitment and playing their passing game against decent opposition. Against a tough Beacon Knights side in the first game the Warriors battled and began to take control in a very tight first half with few chances. In the second half the passing game saw the Warriors dominate with the midfield of Harris , Jarrett and Lowe creating a number of chances. A quick taken corner after some clever thinking by the Warriors enabled Harris to fire a shot in from 20 yards which smashed the crossbar and came back out for Jarrett to head home a deserved lead. The Warriors continued to press for the second as their passing continued to create chances but 3 minutes from time Beacon Knights scored a breakaway goal to equalise and try as they might the Warriors couldn't force a winner. The Warriors took their excellent performance in the first game into their second game against Newton Knights. It took just 2 minutes to show what their passing game is all about with a great move involving Harris and Gosse who set up Buckland to score a classic volley from 7 yards. Further goals from Woodruff, Harris and Gosse gave Warriors a 4-0 half time lead. Position changes at half time saw goalkeeper Pugsley playing up front with Hayman playing in goal and Mead in defence on his own. This didn't alter Warriors game and they continued to impress despite not adding to their goal tally from the first half, Jones having the clearest chance saved by the impressive Knights keeper. Team; Tobi Pugsley, Matt Jones, Tom Woodruff, Kade Hayman, Joe Lowe, George Harris, Ollie Jarrett, Ethan Mead, Joe Buckland and Ben Gosse. AC Heavitree - matchday reportHONITON 1 - 1 AC HEAVITREE In the first few minutes there was not much to separate the two sides. That was until a long shot from Honiton rattled Jasper's right post. A quick counter attack almost put Jack Hector through for a goal but he drove it wide. AC started to pass well, leading to a goalmouth scramble in which Heavitree were unlucky not to go ahead. Then, perhaps against the run of play, AC conceded an own-goal from a long Honiton throw-in and at half time AC Heavitree were 1 - 0 down. In the second half Heavitree pressed hard for an equaliser. Good passing moves put Jack Kennedy into a lot of good positions but all of the chances were driven wide or sky-high. Honiton countered a few times, and Luke Matthews and Arron Hollwell needed to stay alert in order to clear the ball away from Jasper's goal. But AC's gallant midfield, including Alex Green and Jack Smith, continued to combine well with strikers Jack Hector and Jack Kennedy, and shots seemed to rain down on the Honiton goal, forcing many spectacular saves. Finally, all the hard work paid off, as a flurry of shots ended in a deflection into the path of Jack Kennedy for an easy tap-in. Despite more pressure, Heavitree were unable to make further progress, and the two teams shared the points at the end of the game. Heavitree MOTM - Jack Kennedy.
CULM 2 - 0 AC HEAVITREE An early Culm attack saw Jasper save a powerful shot with his legs and the AC defence had to work hard to chase down loose balls in and around the AC penalty area from the outset. After absorbing pressure from Culm for some minutes, AC went forward, only for a long ball from the Culm midfield to find one of their strikers face-to-face with Jasper. Without hesitation the striker poked the ball past Jasper and Culm were 1 - 0 up. Culm continued to pile on the pressure for the rest of the first half, and Heavitree were forced to get everybody back behind the ball for some long periods. In the second half, Culm again saw most of the chances, while AC battled hard to keep them at bay. Then Heavitree found themselves for a while, with a return to their passing game. The game was finely balanced with chances at both ends of the pitch. Jack Smith seemed to have boundless energy in midfield, and played a part in several Heavitree attacks. At the back, Luke Matthews used a lot of determination and skill to obstruct Culm opportunities in open-play. However, in the end a Culm corner led to a headed goal from short range to make it 2 - 0. This renewed Culm's confidence and AC were forced back into a defensive game for the last few minutes. Despite battling well, AC were not able to meet Culm's well-organised and determined style, and there were no grumbles about the final scoreline. Heavitree MOTM - Luke Matthews. Central United Matchday ReportMatch 1 A really committed display from an excellent United team who defended well throughout. Pinhoe soaked up United's attacks and came forward forcefully, only to be met by the twin rocks of William Gregory and Alex Pinskey, and the dramatic shot-stopping skills of Will Wenley. Good running up front by a rejuvenated George O'Brien, and a busy Thomas O'Donnell, helped relieve some pressure. The game was also noteworthy for a Pinskey special that will live long in the memory! So a game that United never looked like winning but nevertheless an effort for which they all should be congratulated. Match 2 This game was a bit of a drop in standards from the 1st one - although United came within a whisker of stealing a point. Talie Metcalfe-Wood looked to be really enjoying himself in this game and rounded off an enjoyable morning for all concerned when he equalised midway through the first half, so breaking United's 2010 duck. Luke Perry also deserves mention for the way he overcame his first half disappointment and knuckled down to some wholehearted defending. Well done boys. Inter Heavitree - Matchday ReportCulm Utd 1 v Inter Heavitree 1 Inter Heavitree started well with Harry Dolan picking out Josh Herbert whose strong run earned them the first corner. Inter maintained good pressure but were then caught on the break and the Culm striker was through one on one with Matthew Davison in goal. Matthew saved well and from the ensuing corner the header went wide. Unfortunately there was confusion from the goal kick and Matthew Davison passed straight to the a Culm Utd player who gratefully sent in a powerful shot to give them a 1-0 lead. For the remainder of the half there was little between the two sides and Heavitree could not find the goal that they needed. In the second half Charlie Ricketts came on for his Heavitree debut and settled in well. Within minutes of the restart Jed Wright made a tremendous break down the right and sent in a pinpoint cross that Josh Herbert got to just before the chasing defender and goalkeeper to put in a deserved equaliser. Heavitree then pushed for the winner, with Matt Burchell's long throws causing problems in the Culm defence. At the other end Matt and Josh Bennett looked solid in defence and despite both teams' best efforts it finished 1-1. Man of the Match: Matt Burchell Honiton 0 v Inter Heavitree 0 Taking nothing away from Honiton's performance this was a game that Inter Heavitree could and should have won. However the commitment of the Honiton defence and the heroics of their goalkeeper ensured that the points were shared. Inter Heavitree started strongly and Jed Wright had an early chance but scuffed his shot. Then a great flowing move saw Harry Dolan break through one on one with the goalkeeper but he saved well. The ball rebounded back to Jed but his strong shot hit the bar. Moments later Inter won a corner and Charlie Ricketts nearly got to it before the ball broke to Harry but the goalie saved his shot. The goalie then made a good save from Charlie to keep the scores level at the break. In the second half Inter kept up the pressure with Tyler Davis making a great run through the centre before setting up Josh Herbert but his shot was pushed behind for a corner. Josh took the corner and the ball came back out to him before another shot was saved at the near post. As the half wore on, Honiton steadily grew into the game but Guy Geeson and Matt Burchell cleared up any danger leaving Matthew Davison little to do in goal. Jed Wright continued to look dangerous and on one occasion went on a mazy run that took him past three Honiton players before almost setting up Josh but the Honiton defender intercepted well. At the end, on the break Honiton nearly broke through before Jed, spotting the danger, came across the field to clear the ball and ensure another draw. Man of the Match: Jed Wright Stoke Hill Rangers - Matchday ReportTedburn St Mary v Stoke Hill Rangers 0-1 Sidmouth Warriors - matchday ReportSidmouth Warriors U10's struggled to get going against 2 good Stoke Hill sides. Against table topping Stoke Hill Celtic some good early saves from Tobi Pugsley kept Celtic at bay but only one shot in the whole of the first half for the Warriors from Ben Gosse showed how much Celtic dominated. Celtics domination was rewarded either side of half time with 2 goals the first a good move the second handed to them. For the last 5 minutes the Warriors changed their tactics leaving one at the back and going for all out attack. This was rewarded when Ollie Jarrett headed in a George Harris pin point corner. It was then in the balance for the last 2 minutes until the Warriors gifted Celtic their third to lose 3-1. In the second game against Stoke Hill Rangers the Warriors dominated the first half with goals from Gosse and two from the impressive Tom Woodruff his second a magnificent strike from 20 yards. 3-0 could have been 5 or 6. In the second game against Central City composed defending by Tom Woodruff and Matt Jones enabled the midfield to dictate the game. Joe Buckland created numerous chances before a two minute spell just before half time saw Gosse score a poachers hatrick. The second half was much of the same with further goals from Kade Hayman and Gosse again making the final score 5-0. Warriors played very well and scored one truly memorable goal with a long range shot for once beating the in-form Will Wenley. The other performance worthy of mention came from Luke Perry who battled extremely well and is quickly developing into a reliable partner for Will Gregory. After turning around 3 down, the midfield began to battle with a degree more urgency and only conceded 1 further goal. Match 2 A great start to this game from a revitalised team but chance after chance went begging with the opposition really under the cosh. With Talie Metcalfe-Wood and Tom Wright in midfield throwing caution to the wind in the search for a goal, the defence began to creak and inevitably shipped a goal. West Hill were quick to counter with a long ball up between the two AC defenders. The big West Hill striker powered away to put himself one-on one with Jasper Freestone (GK), and shot low into the net. 1 - 0 to West Hill. The game continued with end to end action and Heavitree made a come back, but no damage was done to the Westhill defence. Then West Hill pressure led to a throw-in on the right hand side. This led to a quick sequence of passes between West Hill players, setting up a long shot and Freestone was beaten again. After that, AC got themselves back into the game, with plenty of skill from both teams. There was some skillful play in defence between Alex Green and Luke Matthews to control the ball under constant harrasment from West Hill. Similarly, the AC midfield and attack linked well, but any real opportunities were quickly broken down by West Hill. The second half carried on in a similar manner, with chances created for both sides. The West Hill strikers were always quick to try to lose their markers and were a constant threat. Arron Hollwell and Jack Hector were moved back to help, and this seemed to bolster the AC defence. AC had a good spell with a number good passing moves with Jack Kennedy and Alex Green getting close to the West Hill goal. Jack Smith was always in the action in midfield and ready to have a go with several nice shots from range. However, the West Hill defence were well up to the job of protecting their goal, and AC couldn't break them down., leaving the final score at 2 - 0. Despite a good share of the possession, and good battling right to the end, AC could not compensate for the commanding presence of West Hill in the first half, which gave the opposition the game early on. Despite this, and quite a physical game, all of the players treated each other with the great respect that they deserved and it was a fine match for the spectator. AC Heavitree MOTM - Jack Smith AC HEAVITREE 2 - 2 HEMYOCK The first few minutes of this exciting game provided a shot from range by Jack Smith, a corner, and a free kick in favour of AC Heavitree. Despite AC making most of the running, the first goal fell for Hemyock from free kick. The shot, from just outside the penalty area, went over the wall and deflected in off Jasper's outstretched foot. AC were quick to get back on with the job and within a few minutes a weak Hemyock goal kick found its way to Jack Smith who floated a shot over the keeper and into the net. AC continued to dominate possession and chances were created for Jack Hector, Jack Kennedy and Alex Green. AC still looked vulnerable to a counter attack and sure enough, after a defensive lapse left the ball at the feet of Hemyock's main striker, AC paid the price. 2-1 to Hemyock. But again, relentless pressure from AC forced Hemyock back into their own half, and there was some fantastic passing between AC's midfield and attack. Eventually, Jack Kennedy let fly a stinging shot from left of the Hemyock goal and forced the keeper to deflect the ball into the air across the goalface. It looped kindly towards Alex Green, who volleyed it in to bring the score level again at 2 - 2. Hemyock marshalled themselves well in the second half, and the possession was evenly balanced. The AC midfield did well to get back to contain the Hemyock attack, whilst making plenty of good moves themselves. After some outstanding defensive skill under pressure, Luke Matthews made several runs upfield to work well with Jack Hector and Jack Kennedy with some delightful passing play on the left wing. Jasper Freestone was forced to make a few saves from the battling Hemyock side, but AC always looked more likely to score, with more shots on goal from Jack Smith, Tom Blunden and Jack Kennedy. However, the score remained at 2 - 2. Again, this was a fine match for the spectator, with plenty of end to end excitement. It could have been worse had it not been for two brave saves from Tobi Pugsley before half time. In the second half the warriors looked a lot stronger especially at the back with Kade Hayman and Tom Woodruff letting nothing through. A fortuitous strike from 20 yards from Harris ended the game at a fair 2-2 score line. In the second game against Moors Comets the Warriors took a while to find their stride but after 2 goals from Joe Buckland they relaxed and played some excellent football with some excellent goals. Ethan Mead and Ben Gosse scored before the goal of the game made by a fantastic run from Hayman with some lovely one twos before Gosse finish it superbly. Half Time 5-0 could have been more. Tedburn Panthers Match Report 6 February 2010Tedburn Panthers V Broadclyst 11-0Despite the winter sun there was a biting cold wind and play against Broadclyst got off to a brisk start. A cross set up the first of many Tedburn goals from the left corner by Archie to a neat finish by Tom W. With two more goals in quick succession, Tom W swiftly turned in a hat trick. Tedburn piled on the pressure and probably the best goal of the match came from a forceful shot from near the half way line by Tom B. Jamie came on to replace Tom W and with other strikers Archie and Tom B, kept the pressure on. Adam had a quiet time in the Tedburn goal for most of the match but made an excellent save to keep a clean score sheet. Soon after, a great run from Michael and a cross, set up Archie for the first goal of his hat trick. Archie's second goal came from a clearance from Edward, which ran almost the whole length of the pitch, which Archie bundled over the line. Another goal from Archie put the score line at 7-0 before a cross from Edward allowed Tom B to score his second goal of the match. David made plenty of good clearances in defence and Owen came on to replace Adam in goal and Theo came on to replace Archie. Tedburn continued to play a strong game with Jamie continually testing Broadclyst, who kept bravely battling throughout the game and never gave up. Tedburn Panthers V Cullompton 4-1Tedburn started with Owen in goal, Edward, Adam (Captain) and Michael in defence and Archie, Jamie and Tom Williams in front. Despite playing up hill, Tedburn made a strong start when Archie took a throw in near the left corner and Cullumpton scored an own goal. Another throw in from Archie allowed Tom Williams to score and Jamie was unlucky not to add to the score in the first half. Playing down hill in the second half, gave Tedburn the advantage and Michael was unlucky not to score off a cross from Tom Williams. Owen Twigg had to make an excellent save from a Cullompton free kick before Tom Williams drove the ball in to the corner of the net to make it 3 -0. Despite a strong defence, Tedburn conceded a goal but with David coming on to replace Edward and Theo replacing Jamie, Tedburn kept up the pressure to the end. Inter Heavitree - Matchday ReportHemyock 1 v Inter Heavitree 2 Inter Heavitree started well, down the slight slope with Haytham Hanna making some telling runs from midfield and setting up Josh Herbert twice for one on one's with the Hemyock goalkeeper, but both times the keeper stood up well and kept the scores level. Hemyock had their chances too, mainly on the break, but Josh Bennett and Matt Burchell stood firm. Behind them Brandon George was solid in goal and dealt well with the few balls that made it through to him. Inter continued to make chances and eventually one went in as Haytham set up Josh Herbert and although his initial shot was blocked he managed to slot the rebound past the keeper. Moments later the referee blew up and the teams swapped ends with a slender lead for Inter Heavitree. Once again Inter started the second half well and were soon two goals up. Tyler Davis, who had been tireless in the centre of midfield, threw in a long ball and Josh Herbert spun well and volleyed in for a 2-0 lead. This seemed to galvanise Hemyock into action and they started to put pressure on the Inter defence. Heavitree were now forced to threaten on the counter attack and although they still looked dangerous, Hemyock fully deserved to get one back. This made the last few minutes a little nervy but with Josh Bennett making numerous tackles and interceptions and Brandon diving bravely at the feet of an oncoming Hemyock forward, Inter Heavitree held on for a hard fought win. Man of the Match: Josh Bennett West Hill Wasps 2 v Inter Heavitree 2 Inter started the second match positively against West Hill moving the ball about and breaking at speed. They created the best chances of the first half and were well worth the lead when Tyler Davis latched on to the ball in the penalty area after a good corner from Harry Dolan. West Hill looked dangerous on the break but generally Haytham Hanna and Josh Bennett looked comfortable in defence and Tyler Davis was excellent getting back to support them when needed. Inter Heavitree continued to press forward with Matt Burchell working well down the left and under pressure, a West Hill defender deflected the ball into his own net. West Hill came roaring back and finally broke the Inter defence but Matthew Davison in goal pulled of an amazing save to ensure that Inter went in 2-0 up at the break. In the second half there could have been a sackful of goals as both teams created a number of great chances. However it was West Hill Wasps who scored twice and meant that the last five minutes were tense with both sides chasing the winner. Tyler Davis was tireless and linked well with Harry and Haytham but although they were still pressing at the end, with Josh Herbert's cross just eluding Harry, the scores remained at 2-2. Man of the Match: Tyler Davis Tedburn Panthers v Twyford CelticThe squad assembled at Barley Park to hear the stories of some of the icy journeys parents had made, half expecting the game to be called off. The new motto for the team was "go mental" from the otherwise demure and quietly spoken Mrs Baber. It had snowed quite heavily overnight and the pitch at Tiverton was being re-marked as we arrived. We knew Twyford were going to provide a stern test for Tedburn and the teams were very evenly matched. It was nil nil at half time and this was down to the excellent performance of Edward, Owen and Michael in defence, with Adam making some great saves in goal. Jamie ran tirelessly up front and does not understand "lost cause" working hard for the team. The squad rotation saw several changes at half time and shortly after kick off Tedburn scored through Archie slotting home after a scrabble in the box. A good delivery of a corner by Tom was headed home by Michael to make it 2-0. Twyford showed their fighting qualities and scored soon after to make it 2-1. The Tedburn team were battling fiercely to keep the lead, when a speculative high ball into the box sailed over the keeper into the goal. 2-2 at full time was a fair result for the effort of the two teams. Going into extra time and being able to use our subs again, we felt should give us an advantage. Any thoughts that Twyfords defence would be weakened by having a girl had been dispelled by a very strong performance and proved she was one of their best players. A change of team again, for extra time brought on Jamie and Tom B who played well linking together up front. A clever goal kick to Edward at l back from Adam, was passed on to Tom who took the ball to the bye line and crossed it back to Archie who volleyed into the net for the goal of the game and had the Tedburn supporters smelling victory at 3-2. Theo and David provided some solid defence, with Henry was giving an outlet up front. Yet again Twyford responded in the second period of extra time with a goal that levelled the match to 3-3 at the end of extra time. This led to the officials reaching for the rulebooks and we had to declare 3 penalty takers and the order. Archie and Tom both scored to match the two penalties scored by Twyford. The tension was becoming unbearable but Tedburn unfortunately missed our first extra penalty and the young lady in the Twyford team broke Tedburn's hearts with a great strike to score. Both teams should be commended for playing a great game in a very sporting way and providing such a great spectacle for the spectators....one of whom said "I would have paid money to watch that. Pinhoe Pikes started strongly and signalled their intent by hitting the side netting from out wide. Inter Heavitree came back straight away with Tyler Davis running from his own half, through the majority of the opposition before pulling his shot wide. Matthew Davison pulled off a great save as Pinhoe Pikes broke quickly and ended up one on one with the Inter Heavitree goalkeeper. Pinhoe Pikes piled on the pressure and Matthew Davison could not hold the shot from wide leaving a simple tap in for the Pikes to take a 1-0 lead. Inter were also creating chances and Josh Herbert set up Harry Dolan but his shot was saved. Inter Heavitree started the second half strongly and Josh Herbert slipped the ball through for Jed Wright to finish coolly and take the scores to 2-1. Inter forced two corners and Josh Herbert swung in two excellent balls, the latter of which a Pikes' defender headed into his own net. Heavitree were first to most tackles and dominated the midfield battle but did not create the chances that their possession deserved. Jed Wright probably had the best chance of the half after a strong run but the Pinhoe Spears' goalkeeper saved well and then followed up with a great save at Josh Herbert's feet moments later. With the scores 0-0 at half time Pinhoe Spears played down the slope in the second half and started to apply pressure. The early stages of the half were even but then came two turning points as the referee awarded a penalty for a hand ball in the area and Pinhoe Spears converted with a great shot that left Matthew Davison with no chance. Then Harry Dolan who had been harrying hard in midfield was injured and had to be taken off. The defence hardly had time to settle when a lack of communication meant that they both left the ball to each other and a grateful Spears' attacker slipped in to score a second. For the first time this season Inter's heads dropped and Pinhoe Spears started to move the ball around with much more purpose. central City - matchday reportCentral City U10s (3) vs (1) Newton Knights U10s 30.01.10 Central City played slick passing football in this hard fought game. Early on Harvey Young put City in front with a powerful drive from the edge of the box. Will Caschere and Jaime Hammond linked up well in the midfield and Joe Glenny and Toby Criss worked together to keep the Newton attackers at bay. Striker Callum Davison put Central 3-0 up with two well taken finishes. Subs Fin Gregory, Josh Morris and Will Brown all made contributions to the team performance in the second half but the team could not prevent Newton scoring a consolation goal. Joe Heggadon played his part by making some great saves. City kept battling to the end and thoroughly deserved the 3 points. Central City U10s (0) vs (2) Beacon Knights U10s 30.01.10 Unfortunately for City their goalkeeper Joe Heggadon was injured early on in an attempt to block Beacon's first goal. He was replaced by Harvey Young who played confidently out of position. Young pulled off some outstanding saves and was unlucky to concede a deflected shot in the first half. Will Caschere tried to make things happen for Central but the Beacon defence proved too strong. City defended well but without two of their usual outfield players found it hard to press forward against a well organised opposition. Ollie Evans then rounded the Countess Wear keeper Liam Western to double the lead. UNDER 10 - CUP QUARTER FINAL - Alphington 5 v 1 West ExeAlphington Rockets produced their best performance of the season against very strong opponents. The pitch was frosty due to the early kick off time of 09:30, but the supporters were treated to a red- hot opening 7 minutes with James Dodd combining well to set up Luke White to slot the ball into the empty net. Moments later, Lucas White doubled his, and the rockets tally. This spurred West Exe into life and they started to find their rhythm and were pressing The Rockets goal, and it took some great defending from Oliver Saunders and Jack Cutting to keep the lively West Exe strikers quiet. Within a few minutes of the second half starting, white scored his third for The Rockets. West Exe immediately replied. This prompted the rockets to step up their game and The West Exe keeper was in superb form and stopped numerous "one on one" chances , however he was unable to stop a neat turn and low shot from James Dodd. Finally as the game was drawing to a close, Lucas White tapped in his fourth. Exceptional performances to note from Jack Cutting, Max Hammett, Oliver Saunders and James Dodd, nevertheless Luke White's four goal made him The Rockets Man of the Match. AC Heavitree - matchday reportPINHOE SPEARS 1 v AC HEAVITREE 2 The game started off with early Pinhoe pressure. However, this was matched by a robust Heavitree defence of Arron Holwell and Luke Matthews, and Alfie Young in goal was not troubled. There was an occasional ball up to Tom Blunden who was able to hold the ball up for a few moments until the Pinhoe midfield retrieved possession and brought it back towards the AC goal. Pinhoe made a few dangerous crosses, and there was a fright when Pinhoe hit the post. Then, perhaps against the run of play, quick passing up the field led to Jack Kennedy taking a shot from the left hand side of the Pinhoe area. The keeper could only parry the shot into the path of Jack Hector, who smashed it home from close range. 1 - 0 to AC Heavitree at half-time. After the half-time break, Pinhoe were quick to attack and hit the post for a second time. Alfie Young (GK) had to dive on the ball to prevent a messy scramble turning into a disaster. However, AC were always looking dangerous on the break with the all the Jacks, Arron and Alex linking well to create a few shots on goal, but these were not much trouble for the big Pinhoe keeper. Then, despite fierce defending, Pinhoe were able to equalise with a low powerful shot from left of goal after a corner. This setback did not slow down the team, and good end-to-end play continued, with some excellent passing moves from AC leading to a corner. After bouncing off a player, the ball fell straight to Jack Hector, who gleefully belted it into the roof of the Pinhoe net. AC managed to dominate the game in the last few minutes until the final whistle, leaving the score at 2 -1. The whole AC team were determined and organised in defence, with tight marking, but also very quick to counter-attack. This intelligent strategy led them to turn this well-balanced match to their favour. AC Heavitree MOTM - Jack Hector PINHOE PIKES 0 v AC HEAVITREE 0 Pinhoe got the best of the early exchanges and Jasper Freestone had to make a few saves. But there was plenty of excitement around the Pinhoe goalmouth as Jack Smith and Arron Holwell both shot high and wide from range and Alex Green was bundled off the ball by a couple of defenders after an incisive run. Some slick passing from a corner put Jack Kennedy in for a near chance. Controlled headed passes from numerous AC players kept control of the midfield and gave an advantage from throw-ins. Again, AC were quick to get back and defend when Pinhoe got the ball. The score was 0 - 0 at half time. The second half saw the Pinhoe goalmouth peppered with shots, with a lot of creative moves and shots from Arron Holwell, Jack Smith, Jack Kennedy and Alex Green. AC played with confidence and a belief that they should really have some goals for their considerable efforts. However, AC could not be complacent. After defending well to disrupt an AC attack, Pinhoe surged forward, to be met with an over-enthusiastic body-check by Luke Matthews, sending the Pinhoe striker flying. The resultant free-kick was powerfully struck and on target, with Jasper only just able to tip it over the bar. At the other end, a messy goal-mouth scramble after a Jack Smith shot looked like it would lead to a certain goal, but somehow the shots were blocked or scuffed wide. In the closing stages, Jack Kennedy managed to put his face right in the way of a strong Pinhoe clearance. Despite his brave protests to stay on, the dazed Jack was subbed for Tom for the last few minutes. Ludicrously, the final score was a simple 0 - 0. AC remained well-organised in defence, whilst bold and exciting in attack. The lack of goals did not reflect the high level of skill and commitment of both teams. AC Heavitree MOTM - Jack Kennedy Sidmouth Warriors - matchday ReportSidmouth Warriors U10's slow start to matches finally cost them dear. Against Twyford Celtic the Warriors went 2 down within the first five minutes before they'd even gotten going. This then awoke the boys who dominated for the rest of the half, having chance after chance before Ollie Jarrett headed one back from a pinpoint George Harris corner. The Warriors came straight out of the blocks in the second half equalising inside 2 minutes from the tireless Ollie Jarrett's clinical finish. Warriors then continued to press for the winner having a number of great chances from Joe Lowe, Harris and Jarrett, before cruel luck saw Twyford win with a breakaway goal. Special mentions to Joe Lowe in defence and Tom Woodruff in midfield for 2 outstanding displays. In the second game against Twyford Rangers the Warriors totally dominated the first half with an excellent passing display. Goals from Jarrett 2, Matt Jones, Ethan Mead and Harris made the half time score 5-0. A poor frustrating second half saw the Warriors miss chance after chance leaving the final score the same as the half time score. Tedburn Panthers Matchday ReportTedburn Panthers (4) V Whipton Youth (2) Team: Henry Conner, Michael Wade, Jamie Pengilley, David Gray, Theo Gray, Tom Baber, Adam Stanbury, Archie Osborne, Tom Williams 1St Half Another impressive display from the Tedburn Panthers who are beginning to take their excellent cup form into the league! Early pressure provided some good chances from Tom Williams and Jamie Pengilley which tested the Whipton Youth goalkeeper who had a busy match. The early pressure and excellent link up play eventually payed off when Theo Gray scored from close range from a very good cross from Archie Osborne, it wasn't long before a 2nd goal came which again came from a good cross this time from Tom Williams which was headed home by Michael Wade. The game turned for a while with some good play from Whipton who deserved to get back into the game after a very good unstoppable shot which came off the post to make it 2-1 to Tedburn Panthers. More good pressure from Tedburn should have produced more goals however some very good saves and some uncharacteristic poor finishing meant the 1st half finished 2-1 with all to play for. 2ND Half Tedburn started the 2nd half in the same as the first with some very good early pressure which should of produced a goal from Jamie after a powerful volley from a well placed corner from Tom Williams and it wasn't long for the next goal to come from Archie who finished off very well giving the keeper no chance after more good on the floor passing from Tedburn. Another long range shot from David Gray was on target and more shots from Archie, Tom and Jamie tested the Whipton goal keeper again. Whipton then hit back with a 2nd goal which was against the run of play but was again another well placed shot. Whipton then had a sustained period of pressure which tested the Tedburn defence and produced a goal mouth scramble which goalkeeper Adam Stanbury dealt with very well when he bravely dived in to smother the ball. Tedburn then recovered and finally scored their 4th and decisive goal which came from Tom Baber again after some good link up play. This was Tom's first goal for Tedburn Panthers so Well Done! Tedburn then easily contained Whipton and deserved there hard earned victory but were at times tested by a very good team. A good test which brought the best out of an ever improving side !. 2nd Game - Tedburn Panthers (1) V Countess Wear Dynamoes (3) 1st Half Tedburn came up against a very good team in CW Dynamoes and the defence were tested early on when Archie had to make three good saves to keep them at bay and good tackles from Michael and Adam also helped keep the score 0-0, Tedburn then woke up and a good shot from Henry Conner forced a good save from the CW goalkeeper. Tedburn continued to threaten and good efforts from Tom Williams, Tom Baber and Jamie were dealt with well by the goalkeeper to ensure the half time score was goalless. 2nd Half Tedburn came out fighting with better passing and movement which produced a very good goal from Archie who rounded the keeper and finished well. CW then produced some very good play themselves and scored two goals in three minutes to make the score 2-1. More very good passing from Tedburn and a good free kick from Tom Williams which tested the goalkeeper yet again deserved better however Tedburn couldn't reproduce the good form from the previous game against Whipton Youth and a combination of tired legs and a reduced squad took their toll. CW were fortunate to score a third when a cross unfortunately hit Michael Wade which deflected past the Tedburn Goalkeeper. Well done to the Tedburn Team. Written by Jamie and Richard Pengilly AC Heavitree - matchday reportAC HEAVITREE. 0 v WESTEXE 0 Westexe's position at the top of the table was reflected in AC's defensive tactics. Whenever Westexe got the ball, there were soon at least 5 red-and-black shirts behind the ball. However, AC also took the game to the well-organised Westexe with numerous fast passing and free-flowing counter-attacks. Jasper Freestone had to come off his line to deal with a Westexe chance on goal. The resulting scramble allowed a powerful Westexe shot on goal, but Arron Holwell was perfectly placed to make an outstanding clearance off the line. Jasper was called upon repeatedly in the first half, with numerous fine saves. The second half saw a similar form, with both sides failing to convert their chances into goals. Westexe missed a sitter when a striker blasted over the bar from short range. Jack Hector and Arron Hollwell were making some excellent runs down the wings and putting in some fine crosses, and this led to some slick passing in the penalty area before Jack Kennedy shot inches wide of the left post. Finally, we could all stop holding our breaths when the ref blew the whistle for the end of the game. Westexe were visibly disappointed to be held to a goal-less draw after such a well organised game. AC ran their socks off to contain them, and were justly proud of the result. AC Heavitree MOTM - Jasper Freestone (GK) AC HEAVITREE. 0 v ALPHINGTON 5 AC were buoyed up by their draw with the league leaders, and launched into their following game with the second-place Alphington with enthusiasm. Nat Jones came on to try to provide some fresh legs, but it was clear that the team were exhausted by the heroism of the first game. Alphington soon made their mark with a powerful shot from range after a corner to give them a goal, and then continued to put pressure on until they won a free kick on the right wing. To everybody's surprise, the kicker decided to take a shot from a ridiculous range. This sailed into the goal, with Jasper well beaten. 2 - 0 . AC got back into the game, but then Alphington came back at them on the break, scoring again from range. 3 - 0 at half time. The hard-working Jack Hector had received a lot of attention from the opposition in both games so-far, so went off for Alex Green in the second half. AC seemed to hold Alphington off for a short while. Again, Arron was in the thick of it on the left wing, showing good skills. There were a few more chances, and a couple of shots on the Alphington goal. However, these were dealt with by the Goalie, who was quick to hoof the ball up the pitch for Alphington to scramble in a few more goals. Heavitree were visibly tiring, but battled on to the very end. AC worked hard, but were unable to match a confident Alphington who dominated with their crisp passing, speed to get to the ball, and powerful shots. Inter Heavitree - Matchday ReportInter Heavitree 3 v Alphington Rockets 4 This was a fantastic match for the spectator, with plenty of fine football, committed tackling and well taken goals. Inter Heavitree started the stronger, with Jed Wright stamping his authority on the centre of midfield. It was from one strong run by Jed that Alphington conceded a corner. From the corner the ball came back to Jed and he swept the ball into the corner of the net for the first goal. Alphington came straight back at them and Matthew Davison in goal dived bravely at the attacker's feet and the ball rebounded out for an Alphington corner. Inter Heavitree fell asleep and allowed Alphington to take a short corner and the resulting shot left Matthew no chance. Heavitree won another corner following a good run by Jed and Harry Dolan put in another pinpoint corner, which Tyler Davis headed in powerfully. Josh Bennett and Matthew Burchell were magnificent in defence holding out the Alphington attacks but another corner led to a second equaliser. Once again Heavitree came back and after Josh Herbert's shot was blocked Tyler Davis scored his second and Inter's third with an emphatic strike. Unfortunately they could not hold out to the break as Alphington forced another corner and headed in well to make it 3-3 at half time. The second half was much tighter with chances fewer and farther between but Alphington started to dominate and deservedly scored a winner after a strong run down the right. Inter Heavitree kept battling until the end but could not quite engineer the chance to achieve parity. Men of the Match: Jed Wright, Tyler Davis and Josh Bennett
Inter Heavitree 0 v West Exe Youth 4 After the exertions and disappointments of the first game Inter Heavitree never picked up the pace or intensity in their second match. Alex Norris came on up front but was superbly marshalled by a strong West Exe defence. West Exe dominated the first half and soon set up a corner, which they scrambled in giving Matthew Davison in goal no chance. Jed Wright and Matt Burchell made rare forays into the West Exe half but had their shots blocked. Matthew Davison pushed a long range effort onto the crossbar with a fantastic diving save but the ball bounced down and in as he desperately tried to grab it. West Exe scored a third before the break with a great cross and header. After a few changes at the break Inter Heavitree competed much better in the second half with Tyler Davis and Matt Burchell solidifying the defence and Matthew Davison performing heroics in goal, pulling off save after diving save to keep West Exe at bay. Inter even managed to start to create opportunities up front, with Josh Herbert and Jack Lethbridge nearly combining to pull one back. However as Inter pushed forward they were caught on the break by a clinical West exe team for an excellent fourth. Sidmouth Warriors Matchday Report 12/12/09Sidmouth Warriors U10's continued their good form despite being down to the bare bones. All 7 players had to play both matches against quality opposition. The first game against AC Heavitree was a very tight affair with both defences coming out on top. The versatile Kade Hayman playing in goal made some great saves and the defence of Matt Jones and man of the match Tom Woodruff coped with everything thrown at them. The best chance saw a Joe Lowe corner headed narrowly wide by Ollie Jarrett. The final score of 0-0 was a fair reflection. In the second game against Inter Heavitree the Warriors looked tired and there looked no way back when Heavitree took the lead. Tom Woodruff continued to dominate in defence and this inspired the Warriors to venture forward. Out of nothing the ball fell to Ethan Mead whose powerful strike from the edge of the box levelled things at half time. The second half was a tight affair with few chances at either end. The game seemed destined for a draw until Joe Buckland was nastily chopped down 30 yards from goal. Joe Lowe stepped up and hit a superb strike right into the top corner to give the Warriors a 2-1 victory. Harvey Young scored from a very tight angle after some good build up play by Callum Davison. Stoke Hill equalised soon after then scored another taking it to 2 v 1 at half time. City didn't give up and had lots of chances in the second half with Young, Jaime Hammond and Callum Davison all having shots on goal. Joshua Morris played very well on the left wing making some good blocks and strong tackles. Toby Criss, Will Caschere and Farzam Rezaie worked tirelessly in defence and Joe Heggadon made some fine saves. Fin Gregory battled in midfield and made a crucial clearance at the end of the match. City played with spirit, hard work and determination and were very unlucky not to take at least a point from the game. Stoke Hill Celtic Under 10s (6) v Central City Under 10s (0) 12.12.09 Again City had a good start with an immediate attack and corner but Stoke Hill scored on the counterattack and despite the hard work on the left wing of man of the match Farzam Rezaie along with Jaime Hammond, Fin Gregory and Callum Davison ( mid field and up front) City found themselves 5 down at half time. In the second half City didn't let their heads drop and Joe Heggadon continued to make excellent saves against the attacking and well organised Stoke Hill team. Harvey Young had several shots on target and Jaime Hammond and Callum Davison also attacked well. Joe Glenny and Josh Morris worked hard. In the second half it was 1-0 so a great improvement from City and a testament to their hard work and commitment. Tedburn St Mary Under 10s match report for 12/12/09 - Tedburn Panthers v Moors Comet
The goal scorers were Tom Williams who scored a hat-rick(3 goals.) he scored a superb goal with a very tight angle in the top left corner, he also scored 2 others and set up quite a few and put in some very good tackles. In goal was Owen Twigg who did a goal kick to Tom Williams who then crossed it into Archie who took a touch, shot and scored! Jamie Pengilly made a break, passed it into the box and then Archie scored into the bottom right corner. Archie Osborne scored 5 in total. David Gray scored from the half way line, he looked at the goal and had a go(it went in the top right corner!) Moors had a good defence but Tedburn managed to break through it and score! They were smaller than us but they were quick and had very good shots. The Tedburn defence who included Edward Purser, Adam Stanbury and Theo Gray put in some cracking tackles. In the second half Owen came off and Adam went in goal. Henry Connor and Tom Baber went into attack. Edward then went up front instead of Tom Williams and Archie dropped back. Jamie and Owen came off. Most of the defence had a shot on target. Everyone got quite cold but warmed up and had good fun. By Owen Twigg Stoke Hill Rangers Matchday ReportStoke Hill Rangers U10's v Central City 2-1 Inter Heavitree - Matchday ReportsInter Heavitree 4 v Sidmouth Raiders 2 This was a fiercely contested game between two very committed teams and Inter Heavitree had to dig deep to drag themselves back into the game having gone two goals down in the first half. Inter Heavitree started very strongly and Harry Dolan had an early shot saved before both Tyler Davis and Jed Wright put chances wide. Jed then turned provider but Josh Herbert blazed high and wide. Then Sidmouth won a corner and although Jed was first to the ball his header rebounded off a Raider's head and into the back of the net. Moments later it was two as a free kick was given on the edge of the Heavitree box and was dispatched well. To their credit Inter didn't let their heads drop and came roaring back winning a penalty, which Tyler converted with a firm strike. 2-1 down at the break Inter Heavitree came out for the second half desperate to get back into the game but the Raiders defended strongly. Guy Geeson having come on for Harry, struck a fantastic volley, which deflected off a Sidmouth defender to give their goalkeeper no chance to bring the scores level. Josh then scuffed a shot but the ball fell for Jed and he hammered in a third and Tyler got his second of the game to make the final score 4-2 to the home team and crown a great fightback. Inter Heavitree 1 v Sidmouth Warriors 2 If Inter Heavitree were a little flattered in the end by the scoreline in the first game they will feel that this was a game that they deserved to have got something from. Harry Dolan caused havoc down the right, especially in the first half when his crosses caused Sidmouth Warriors no end of problems. Three times his crosses were met by the head of Josh Herbert in the centre and from one of these Inter Heavitree took a well deserved lead. Inter then defended stoically with Matt Burchell superb in defence, ably supported by Tyler Davis. All through the team they competed well with Haytham Hanna excellent in midfield but as the half progressed Sidmouth grew into it and equalised with a well constructed and taken goal. In the second half Inter picked up the intensity again and produced a great chance for Guy Geeson, which he couldn't quite keep down, whilst restricting Sidmouth to speculative long-range shots. However with a minute to go Inter gave away a free kick with a reckless challenge and it was hammered in by Sidmouth for a hard-fought victory. Man of the Match: Matt Burchell AC Heavitree Matchday ReportAC HEAVITREE. 0 v SIDMOUTH WARRIORS 0 From the start this game was very tense, with equal possession and occasional chances on goal. Arron Holwell had to provide many sliding tackles to keep Sidmouth at bay. And goalkeeper, Jasper Freestone put in a number of great saves. Then Jack Hector and Jack Kennedy, for Heavitree, sliced open Sidmouth's defence with a number of skilful individual attacks. Some interesting passing moves started to develop late in the first half to provide more chances. But the Warriors were also determined to stay near the top of the table, and with this in mind, made several surprising and dangerous counter-attacks. Despite this, the score remained at 0-0 at the end of the first half. At the start of the second half, Sidmouth put early pressure on AC and Alex Green, Arron Hollwell and Luke Matthews made a desperate recovery from a goal-mouth scramble that looked certain to put Sidmouth into the lead. Suddenly, the game turned around such that the whole length and width of the pitch was used in end-to-end excitement. After a series of passes Jack Smith connected well with an almost unstoppable shot but the Sidmouth keeper kept it the right side of his line. Sidmouth also put together a number of chances on goal but to mirror Sidmouth's goalie, Jasper guarded his line well. In summary, a tough, sometimes physical and closely fought match by two teams near the top of their game, and near the top of the league. AC Heavitree MOTM: Arron Holwell AC HEAVITREE. 2 v SIDMOUTH RAIDERS 1 Early on, there was a worrying moment for the home side as the Sidmouth midfield and strikers put immediate pressure on the Heavitree defence but the outcome wasn't as serious as it could have been as the ball was scrambled away. But then Heavitree were able to get into their preferred passing style. Tom Blundon and Jack Kennedy linked well together with Arron Hollwell finding the net with a blinding shot into the top corner. 1-0 Heavitree. End-to-end play continued until, a few minutes later, a goal-mouth scramble led to a Sidmouth equaliser. There was a contentious moment from a corner at the end of the first half when a shot on the Sidmouth goal appeared to be handled off the line by a defender. After a moment's consideration, the ref instructed a penalty, which Jack Smith dispatched to bring the score to 2-1 to Heavitree. Heavitree came out from the break with some stylish cross-field passing as well as some more intricate moves to dominate possession for much of the second half. A midfield collaboration put the ball to Jack Hector, who skilfully lifted the ball over the Sidmouth defence onto Alex Green's left boot. Connecting well with a powerfully volley, Alex drove the shot inches wide of the left post. Despite some beautiful moves involving the whole team and numerous chances for Jack Kennedy and Jack Hector, AC were unable to extend their lead further. In fact, Sidmouth mustered a worthy comeback, piling the pressure back onto Heavitree for the closing stages, but the score remained at 2-1. AC Heavitree MOTM: Jack Kennedy Central United Matchday ReportsMatch 1 A great start by United really showed that the boys were intent on trying to play their best football. Sustained pressure failed to bring any reward, however, and Stoke Hill's more mature passing game brought them back into the game. The goals began to mount up but the boys' commitment and attitude never wavered. Will Wenley's incredible shot-stopping drew admiration from both sets of spectators and Talie Metcalfe-Wood pulled out his best performance of the season with an energetic midfield display. Match 2 Hopes were high for a second impressive display and the boys' began solidly enough. Will Gregory was a tower of strength at the back, and also came very close to scoring after a powerful run. This loss can be attributed to a lack of ruthless finishing in the opponents' box and a 'sleepy' 5 minute period when concentration levels dipped and hard-work went out the window. Stoke Hill Celtic Matchday ReportStoke Hill Celtic 6 v Central Utd 0. Inter Heavitree - Matchday ReportsCentral United 0 v Inter Heavitree 3 Inter Heavitree's first game was a spirited Central United side who proved themselves very hard to break down. The first half was fairly even with chances at a premium. Josh Herbert had a left footed shot saved well by the Central goalkeeper and Haytham Hanna had some good runs on his debut. However it wasn't until just before half-time that Matt Burchill's corner somehow found itself in the back of the net for a 1-0 lead. After the break Inter Heavitree increased the pressure and Jed Wright rounded off a fine individual run with a well placed shot to double the lead. Jed then hit the post from another Matt Burchill corner before hitting a shot that the Central goalkeeper could only parry and Harry Dolan was there to knock in the third. Try as they might Central United battled away but couldn't get back into it and Inter Heavitree held on for a 3-0 victory. Man of the Match: Haytham Hanna
Central City 3 v Inter Heavitree 3 In the second match Inter Heavitree started slowly and Central City soon drew a fine save from Matthew Davison in the Heavitree goal. Central continued to press and deservedly went 1-0 up from a deflected shot. This galvanised Inter into action and within minutes they were level after Jed Wright ran strongly down the right wing and crossed for Josh Herbert, who slotted the ball home. The match went from end to end with both defences taking command and Matt Burchill and Josh Bennett were particularly commanding for Heavitree in restricting Central to long range efforts. Then, as it looked like they would be all square at the break Josh Herbert went on a run down the left and held off the defender to hit a shot that the goalkeeper seemed to have covered but somehow found itself in the back of the net. 2-1 up at half time Inter sat back a little and were penalised for a foul just outside the penalty box. The free kick was struck firmly and rebounding off the two man wall gave Matthew Davison in goal no chance. Inter tried to regain the initiative but were caught on the break by a strong run down the right. The resulting cross was struck well for Central and they took a 3-2 lead. Inter threw on Matt Burchill and Tyler Davis and the former made a strong run down the right to win a corner. Matt took the corner and in the penalty area Josh Herbert reacted first to slot the ball in and complete his hat-trick. There was little time left and the whistle went with the scores remaining 3-3 , with both teams having come from behind to secure a well-deserved draw. Man of the Match: Jed Wright Central United Matchday ReportsMatch 1 A welcome return to committed, thoughtful football by United after last week's cup game. The boys worked well as a team and were unlucky to fall behind from a corner. Will Wenley in goal pulled off several terrific saves & demonstrated again his developing shot stopping prowess. Really, the team's only fault was in not taking their chances & although the forwards Oskar Pawlowski & Thomas O'Donnell never stopped running, Heavitree ran out worthy winners. Match 2 0-0 through half-time and well into the 2nd half tells a truthful story of how well the boys battled. Again, luck up front deserted us and none of several opportunities to edge ahead were taken. However, suddenly concentration levels dropped and the defence shipped goal after goal. It was like a bad dream! Alex Pinskey worked like a trojan and his determination was exemplary - a real lesson for his team-mates. Central City Matchday ReportsCentral City (0) v AC Heavitree (4) Under 10s Central, playing with 3 players short in the squad, found it hard to get into a rhythm in the first half. Though their passing was not as good as usual there was some good play from them and good saves from Joe Heggadon. Toby Criss and Joe Glenny played well in defence. Despite this City found themselves 3 down at half time. The boys then came out fighting and played really well together in the second half. The midfield of Harvey Young, Fin Gregory, and Jaime Hammond put together some good moves and Fin Gregory was unlucky not to score from an excellent header after a cross from Young. The boys showed real spirit and Harvey Young, Will Caschere and Callum Davison all had attempts on goal. City were unlucky to concede a goal in the second half and the final score line didn't do justice to their efforts. Central City (3) v Inter Heavitree (3) Under 10s Central started positively and attacked with the wingers, Will Caschere and Harvey Young running forward and beating the Heavitree players and with Jaime Hammond dominating the midfield. Joe Glenny again had an excellent game with some good blocks and powerful clearances. Callum Davison pushed forward continually. Caschere teed up Young for a great City goal. Heavitree equalised straight from the kick off. City kept attacking with Hammond, Young and Caschere providing balls for each other and for Davison and the defenders pushing forward. Heavitree scored again on the counterattack just before half time. City played with determination and spirit throughout the second half. Joe Heggadon made some good saves and was talking to his defence. Young, Davison and Hammond all had shots. Young scored a second from a well taken free kick. Joe Glenny and Toby Criss were defending well with Young running back to defend when Glenny pushed forward. Callum Davison scored an excellent goal for City after a mazy run and cross from Young, and celebrated with his trademark shirt and breast stroke celebration. City kept battling with Jaime Hammond demonstrating some excellent tackling and skills and the all boys communicating well with each other. To their credit, Heavitree didn't give up and the game was end to end in the last few minutes with Heavitree scoring just before the whistle to end on 3 all: a great game to watch. Alphas Matchday ReportAlphington Rockets 7 V 1 Dawlish Town Alphington Rockets playing at The Chronicles, provided one of their best displays of the season, despite the ever worsening pitch conditions. A late switch from Barton Fields did not affect The Rockets players. Right from the kick off their passing was impressive with Jack Cutting solid in defence and James Dodd instrumental in centre midfield. Luke White was causing the Dawlish defenders all sorts of problems with his tireless running. Luke White was soon rewarded with a goal. This was the start of a first half blitz with James Dodd scoring a hat -trick and Jack Cutting scoring one. Several changes to The Rockets personnel for the second half did not stop the free flowing football and further goals by Garreth Blackmore and an exquisite header by Luke White capped a fine Rockets performance. Alphington Man of the Match James Dodd Alphington Rockets 3 v 3 St Martins Alphington Rockets did not take their earlier form into match two. St Martin's battled hard and was tough opposition. The Rockets seemed to take their foot of the pedal and became lazy and wasteful with their passing. Luke White scored his second header of the day to make the score 1-0. St Martin's soon made it 1-1. St Martin's again pressed the Rockets goal and was deservedly rewarded with another goal. 1-2 at Half time. Changes were made to The Rockets team. Pressure mounted on the St Martin's goal. However, it was St Martin's who scored next. Luke White immediately replied. With the pitch becoming like a quagmire both teams were finding it hard to string more than 2 passes together. After some good passing football Alex Green opened the scoring. A second goal came from AC defender Jack Smith who struck a sweet shot from distance to score the goal of the match. Heavitree continued to press and Arron Holwell's determination paid off when he put in the third. 3-0 at half time. No changes at half time for AC who carried on playing the same good passing football, but Central were putting up more of a fight in the second half. Kathryn Brown and Jack Smith were able to deal with the City attacks efficently and snuff out most attacks, Jasper Freestone dealt with any shots that got through preserving another clean sheet. The midfield of Jack Kennedy, Jack Hector and Arron Holwell working tirelessly to close down and start new attacks, battling well with a more determined City midfield Arron Holwell scored another after some great work on the wing by Jack Hector, making it 4-0 to the visitors. AC HEAVITREE. 4 V CENTRAL UNITED. 0 Too much tinkering by the coach got the Heavies off to unsteady start against United but they were unlucky not to take an early lead when a well struck shot from Jack Kennedy was only stopped from going into the net by hitting one of his own players. United attacked on numerous occassions but the AC defence and keeper managed to hold them off till half time. 0-0 at half time. Reverting to thier normal formation AC took control of the match in the second half. Alex Green again opened the scoring, when Arron Holwell's cross found him waiting on the penaulty spot to fire home. More great running by Jack Hector was rewarded with another goal . Jack Smith smashed in the third and Jack Kennedy poked in the fourth after a scrammble in front of goal. Playimg her final match for the Heavies Kathryn Brown had a good game in defence thwarting any counter attack United tried to launch with some well timed clearances , Natty Jones and Charlie King assisting in defence well and Jasper Freestonce keeping yet another clean sheet. Sidmouth Warriors Matchday ReportSidmouth Warriors U10's climb the table with two convincing victories. In the first game against Cullompton, Tobi Pugsley in goal was rarely troubled as the defence of Matt Jones and Kade Hayman didn't let anyone get through, that coupled with strong midfield play marshalled by Joe Lowe allowed the rest of the team to produce a fine attacking display. It was actually Kade Hayman who opened the scoring early on with a fine shot from outside the box, the game then went quiet until Ollie Jarretts double just before half time. In the second half it was all out attack from the Warriors as Joe Buckland and Ethan Mead made it five nil. Then the goal of the game from Ethan Mead who picked the ball up on the edge of his own box, totally outpacing the whole of the Cullompton team as he ran the length of the pitch before smashing his shot past their goalkeeper. Cullompton did get a consolation goal from a corner a minute from time leaving the final score at 6-1 to the Warriors. In the second game the Warriors dominated the game and totally overpowered and outclassed their spirited opponents Broadclyst. Five goals up at half time and the whole of the half on the attack. Goals from George Harris, Ethan Mead, Joe Buckland and two from Ben Gosse made the half time talk easy. In fairness to the Warriors they didn't take their foot of the gas and continued to attack in the second half with Ben Gosse completing his hatrick a minute into the second half. Some strong defending by Tom Woodruff allowed the Warriors to continue attacking with Harris, Lowe and Gosse scoring to make it 9. A polished finish from Jarrett made it ten before the impressive Gosse added two more to make it 6 for him for the game and twelve for the Warriors. Seeing two performances like that made it all worthwhile on a wet and windy day thanks boys. Stoke Hill Rangers Matchday ReportMoors Comets v Stoke Hill Rangers U10's 0-1 Under 10's League Cup Round 2 - Alphington Rockets 6 v 2 ExmouthDespite the wet and windy conditions both teams played great football which made for an exciting first half. Alphington had most of the early possession and were a threat to the Exmouth goal, with the Exmouth keeper making several good saves. Midway through the first half, Exmouth scored a breakaway goal, only for Luke White to reply immediately. Minutes later White scored again to double The Rockets lead. Again the score was levelled with a well worked Exmouth goal to make it all square at half time. The Rockets started the second half well and were a constant threat to Exmouth's goal. With Max Hammett was starting to dominate the midfield, Exmouth were being pushed further and further back. As the rockets started to turn up the heat White added Alphington's and his, third goal of the game. It was all one way traffic now, Jack Cutting was making powerful runs out of defence and linking well with the attack. Alphington constant pressure allowed James Johnson to score a neat goal and White made his tally four. James Dodd power shot made it six. In summary despite a slow start, this was an excellent Rockets performance with Max Hammett, Jack Cutting and James Johnson the pick of the bunch. Central City Matchday ReportBroadclyst (1) v Central City (4) 07.11.09 Central took control of this game in the early stages; Farzam Rezaie pounced upon a loose ball on the edge of the area and drove through a crowd of players to put the away side a goal ahead. Building from the back Central scored a well crafted second when Joe Glenny played a beautifully weighted pass down the right channel for Farzam Rezaie to run onto and square for Harvey Young to thump home a second goal. Young then skipped between two Broadclyst players to go clear on goal and produced a composed finish across the keeper for Central's third. Will Caschere hit a Broadclyst post with an effort in the early part of the second half. However it was Broadclyst who got the next goal of the game when their scorer turned sharply after a goal kick to fire home. Typical of Central's determined play in this game a response was immediate. Callum Davison, who battled away brilliantly up front in the second half, won possession in the Broadclyst penalty area then shuffled the ball out of his feet before placing a shot just inside the post. Davison celebrated in fine style with the classic shirt over the head arms aloft run followed by a belly slide and into a breaststroke move. Cullompton Rangers (1) v Central City (3) 07.11.09 During the first half Cullompton threatened the Central goal on a number of occasions and Central had keeper Joe Heggadon to thank for several crucial saves. A parry from a corner followed by a brave block with his body kept the home side from scoring. Toby Criss and Joe Glenny were a solid defensive pairing. When Harvey Young found space on the edge of the Cullompton box he let fly with a sweet strike with his right foot which flew past the keeper to give Central the lead. It could have been a second for Young and Central before half time but his shot rebounded back off the post. Fin Gregory and Will Caschere took up defensive duties in the second half and kept things tight at the back. Joshua Morris was excellent on the left hand side and put in some great blocks. Jamie Hammond was winning the midfield battle and provided good service to the front players. Callum Davison broke through the centre of the Cullompton midfield and laid a ball to Harvey Young arriving on the right. Young collected the pass and drove a shot through the oncoming keeper to double Central's lead. Shortly after Joe Heggadon connected sweetly with a goal kick which travelled straight down the pitch and bounced over the keeper and into the goal. Cullompton pulled one back before the end and missed several opportunities to add further goals. Will Brown went on a mazy run down the left late on in a brilliant piece of wing play. The team should be proud of the two excellent performances today. Pinhoe Spears Matchday Report
Central United Matchday ReportsMatch 1 A rearranged fixture on small pitches seemed to unsettle the United boys who took ages to focus on matters in hand. 3-0 down was a bit harsh though as Cullompton had converted each of their chances and United had come close with their 2. After the break United got theur just desserts and came right back into the game. Will Gregory singlehandedly pegged back the opposition attack and never stopped his aggressive search for the ball. A good game but the boys need to have more self-belief. Match 2 An inexperienced Broadclyst side battled well to contain the energetic United attack. George O'Brien shone in this game with growing confidence on the ball and well-timed shots on goal. A new partnership at the back of Arthur Burrow and Luke Perry coped with everything thrown at them with Luke in particular displaying his growing positional awareness. Tedburn Panthers Matchday Reports
Tedburn Panthers U10's 3 Vs Newton Knights 0 It was a rainy morning down at Bettysmead, where Tedburn Panthers took on Newton Knights. Tedburn Panthers took the kick off heading up hill. After close early encounters halfway through the first half Jamie Pengelly slotted a through ball to Archie Osborne, who neatly drilled a right footed shot past the out coming Newton keeper. Kicking downhill in the second half Tedburn enjoyed more possession but Newton Knights continued to attack on the breakaway. This forced a series of saves from the Tedburn keeper, Adam Stanbury, supported by excellent defending from Edward Purser. Eventually however the pressure told with Jamie Pengelly adding a second with his left foot after good teamwork. As the match was drawing to a close Theo Gray made the result certain by slotting the ball into a crowded net. The final score ended up 3 - 0 to Tedburn. Congratulations to Tedburn Panthers U10's on their first ever League win. Tedburn Man of the Match: Edward Purser Written by Archie Osborne Tedburn Panthers U10's 0 Vs Beacon Knights 1 After the excitement of a first league win a much changed Tedburn team took on a competitive Beacon Knights side. Right from the start it was clear this was going to a close match with both teams playing some good football. Beacon Knights clearly have a talented attacking unit with threats on both flanks. Despite quality defending from Tedburn eventually the ball fell onto a Beacon Knights boot on the edge of the box who needed no second invitation to lash the ball past a diving Owen Twigg in the Tedburn goal. A new attacking threat of Tom Baber and Henry Connor kept the Beacon Knights defence busy but their defence held firm until half time. Despite the squally showers both sides kept pressing with further chances at either end. Tom Baber had a scorching run and shot well saved by a solid Knights keeper. Michael Hunter also had a chance to equalise midway through the second half with the ball squirting wide. Beacon Knights also had opportunities to increase their lead and it is testimony to Tedburn's much improved organisation and match practice that Beacon Knights were kept out for the second period. Thank-you to Beacon Knights for allowing the game to be moved from Newton St Cyres due to conditions under foot and roll on next week and the second round of the Cup. Tedburn Man of the Match: Adam Stanbury and Tom Baber Written by Nigel and Archie Osborne Inter Heavitree - Matchday ReportsInter Heavitree 2 v Moors Stars 3 This was one of those games of two halves with Inter Heavitree starting strongly and troubling the Stars' goalkeeper with two long shots which he could only parry. Then came the move of the match as Jed Wright picked up the ball in midfield and fed the ball to Harry Dolan. Harry ran down the right wing before sending in a great cross that was met by Josh Herbert who volleyed the ball into the back of the net. Moors Stars then came into the game and forced a first corner. A very good delivery was palmed out by Matthew Davison in goal but The Stars strikers were the first to react and hit in the equaliser. Once again Heavitree reacted with another fine flowing move and Harry once again picked out Josh in the box and he turned neatly and shot well to send Inter Heavitree in 2-1 up at the break. If Heavitree were dominant in the first half it was Moors Stars who took control in the second as they held the midfield and with Inter too slow to close them down, they equalised again with a well taken shot from the edge of the area. Moors Stars kept pressing and won a corner. They then scored direct from the corner to give them the lead for the first time. This seemed to finally wake up Inter, who poured forward and pressurised the Stars' goal with the Stars defence bravely blocking various goal bound shots and holding out for a hard fought win. Man of the Match: Josh Herbert Inter Heavitree 1 v Moors Comets 0 The second match saw several changes with Guy Geeson and Jack Lethbridge coming into defence and both played extremely well ahead of Matthew Davison who pulled off some very good saves. However it was Heavitree who took the lead as a nice flowing move ended with Jed Wright setting up Harry Dolan who shot superbly across the Comets' goalkeeper and into the corner of the net. Minutes later Harry got the ball again in an almost identical position and a high score looked possible but Harry dragged it just wide and Moors Comets started to battle their way back into the game. Chances came fewer with Guy making several timely interceptions and despite both teams battling well the scoreline remained the same until the end. Even now Moors continued to look for a way back , but AC held them till the final whistle, 4-1. A good match, well done both teams. AC MOTM. Jack Hector. AC HEAVITREE 1 V MOORS STARS 3. Both teams having won their first matches were looking to continue with another win, and from the off it was an evenly contested match. Either side could have scored early on , but for saves from both keepers. It was AC who took the lead, after Jack Hecter's persistance on the left wing, saw him fight his way past a couple of defenders and score from a tight angle. Moors were soon level, Heavitree being to slow to close down an attack and allowing the moors striker to shoot from close range leaving Jasper Freestone no chance in goal. The second half saw AC press for a winner, but for all their pressure the Stars defence and keeper managed to hold them off.Moors counter attack caught the Heavies up field and a long goal kick found the AC defence wanting for pace, a cool finish as the striker rounded the keeper and put the ball away. AC heads seemed to drop after that and Moors scored again late on to make it 3-1, a score line that did not reflect the closeness of the match. Well done again both teams for a fine display. AC MOTM. Mid way through the first half Twyford made the breakthrough with a long range shot that caught Matthew Davison flat footed and flew into the corner of the net. This week however there was no collapse and if anything Heavitree dominated the remainder of the half with Tyler Davis testing the goalkeeper from distance and Josh Herbert very nearly knocking in the rebound. Heavitree started the second half in similarly positive fashion and it wasn't long before a determined run by Harry Dolan up the right beat the defence and he finished with style to even up the scores. Jed Wright and Tyler Davis were beginning to dominate in midfield and the defence of Matt Burchill and Josh Bennett was superb with Matthew Davison looking assured in goal. Then came two set pieces that changed the course of the game. Firstly Twyford won a corner on the right and from the resulting cross they powered in as good a header as I have ever seen in youth football. Heavitree tried to hit back straight away but the Twyford defence stood strong and then the referee awarded them a free kick just outside the area, which they converted with a well struck shot that was too strong for Matthew to stop. Still Heavitree refused to give up and poured forward again and were rewarded by a goal for Tyler Davis. Twyford Celtic were now under pressure but the clock was against Heavitree and they held on for a hard fought 3-2 win. Man of the Match: Tyler Davis Twyford Rangers 0 v Inter Heavitree 9 Still disappointed after missing out so narrowly in the first match Inter started with purpose in this second. A revamped team created chance after chance but despite hitting the post and crossbar struggled to find the net thanks to some excellent saves from the Rangers' goalkeeper. Eventually however, Harry Dolan's shot was only parried as far as Josh Bennett and he hit in the rebound to break the deadlock. For the remainder of the half Heavitree continued to press but couldn't increase the lead despite various attempts from Harry, Josh and Matt Burchill. In fact they were almost caught twice on the break but first Jed Wright and then Matt Burchill got back to make telling interceptions and clear the danger. In the second half Heavitree made some changes bringing back Tyler Davis and Josh Herbert and the former quickly made an impact with a fine individual goal to double the lead. Inter Heavitree relaxed and started passing the ball around rather than trying to force the game and the chances started to appear with Tyler once again finishing off a fine flowing move. Another fine passing move set up Jed Wright for the fourth before Tyler rounded off a fine second half hat-trick. Josh Herbert scored the sixth, Jed the seventh and then Josh scored another two to complete his hat-trick as well. The play was very evanly matched. Culm was giving a corner which seamed to stay at West Exe end for some time but just would not go into the net. Culm had some real good chances and touches but West Exe were a well organised side and closed alot of Culms chances down. West Exe came back with alate goal but they could have had another if it was not for the excellent save from Elliot Tancock. ALPHINGTON 3 V CULM 1 Well here were again the same as last week were we going to be in for the same speed and quality of football as last week. The game started evenly with chances at both ends, Culm seamed a different side then last week more determination in there bellys and fire in there feet, then just before half time came a lucky break for Alphington to go 1 v 0 up. Stoke Hill Rangers Matchday ReportStoke Hill Rangers U10's v Newton Knights U10's 6-1 Under 10's League Cup Round 1 --- Twyford Celtic 3 v Inter Heavitree 0In the first half Twyford Celtic were excellent and it was fully five minutes before Heavitree were able to get out of their half and make any form of attack on the Twyford goal. However this attack was short lived and the busiest people in the Heavitree team in the first half were Jed Wright and Josh Bennett in defence and Matthew Davison in goal. All three were outstanding and did a superb job in keeping the scores all level at half-time. In the second half Heavitree made some changes with Jed and Josh Bennett moving into midfield and Josh Herbert and Matt Burchill moving into defence. Suddenly Heavitree looked a different team and started to win the ball in the centre of the park with Jed and Tyler Davis winning the 50:50 battles. For five minutes Heavitree finally started to come back into the game, culminating in a golden chance when Josh Herbert bisected the Twyford defence to set up Harry Dolan. One on one with the goalkeeper Harry's shot hit the post and came back out. Twyford Celtic seemed galvanised by this let off and started to re-apply pressure to the Heavitree defence. Almost immediately, after a goalmouth scramble Twyford finally made the breakthrough and once the deadlock was broken they scored a great second goal on the break as Heavitree tried to push forward. However even this was surpassed by their third, which confirmed a well-deserved win. Man of the Match: Matthew Davison Under 10's League Cup Round 1 --- Beacon Knights (5) v Central City (0)Central had the majority of possession in the opening stages but could not create a clear goal scoring opportunity. Knights took the lead after clearing a Central corner and counter attacking down the right. A square ball across the penalty area was collected by their forward who drove a shot high into the goal. Knights caught Central with another breakaway soon after to move into a two goal lead and scored a third before half time when a free kick deflected off a Central player into the net. In the second half Central keeper Joe Heggadon made several important saves to keep the deficit at three. Jamie Hammond battled hard in the midfield in an attempt to drag Central back into the game. Toby Criss defended superbly at the back for Central as the opposition attacked time and time again. Knights strong forward play was eventually rewarded with a fine strike from the left for the forth goal, and a fifth was added before the final whistle to cap a dominant display by the visitors. Newton Knights (2) v Central City (5) Under 10s friendly 17.10.09 A friendly game provided Central with an opportunity to put their cup exit behind them. Newton scored in the opening minutes but Harvey Young equalised a minute later with a well struck shot off the foot of the post after a great ball from Farzam Rezaie. Newton went ahead again then Young restored Central's lead after dribbling past several players and crashing a shot into the goal. Joe Glenny broke free from the Newton defence running onto a ball over the top to score Central's third. For Central Farzam Rezaie did well running with the ball at the opposition defence. In the second half Central got well on top of the game. Will Caschere made good tackles and provided accurate long passes down the left to Will Brown who looked dangerous when heading toward the Newton goal. Man of the Match Harvey Young continued to carve through the Newton midfield and completed his hat -trick with a powerful strike from distance and scored his fourth goal of the game to round off a fine display. The Rockets were rewarded in the first few minutes when Max Hammett picked up a loose ball to poke the ball into the roof of the Culm net to make it 0-1. Minutes later The Rockets were fortunate to double their lead when a James Dodd shot cannoned of the keepers feet and hit a Culm defender to score an own goal. Culm replied with a goal to make the score 1-2. Just before half time Luke White seized on a corner cross, which hit the post and fell kindly to White who calmly placed the ball into Culm's net. Again, the resilient Culm scored to make it 2-3 at the break. The second half started much like the first, high tempo and excellent passing. Luke White was on target again; when he pounced on a dropped save from the Culm keeper. The Rockets started to dominate the game and were creating chances at will, without being able to add to their tally. Finally persistence paid off when Max Hammett passed to James Dodd, who coolly slotted the ball into the Culm net. During the last few minutes Lucas White was on hand to place the ball home for his well deserved hat-trick. This was by far Alphington Rockets best performance of the season against a very organised and determined Culm team. Excellent performances to note were from Luke White, Max Hammett and Joe McKenzie. Saints continued to press and the AC defence was caught out for pace, allowing Saints to retake the lead.Failure of Heavitree to clear their lines and the midfield playing to deep let Crediton continue to dominate.Saint scored again before the break making it 1-3. The second half was a more contested affair, after Jack Hector gave AC some hope by scoring to bring the score to 2-3. Heavitree came close to equalising when Jack Kennedy hit the woodwork, and Jack Smith narrowly missed with two long range efforts, further attempts on goal by Arron Holwell and Jack Hector that the saints Keeper and defence dealt with. Saints then broke down the wing and past the AC defence to score their fourth.Jack Hector then scored a good individual goal turning a Saints defender, then past another to run on and lash it past the Saints keeper, 3-4. Central City U10s match reportDawlish (3) v Central City (0) 10.10.09 Central City's strong second half performance deserved more than the final score line suggested. It was Dawlish quickly attacked putting Central under pressure. For Central, the defensive pairing of Joshua Morris and Will Caschere made several important clearances in the opening moments. Dawlish opened the scoring after a long throw into Central's penalty area was tapped in from close range. Dawlish added a second soon after when an in-swinging corner crashed against the front post, rebounded and was knocked home. Central responded well keeping their heads up and working for each other as a team. Jamie Hammond in the midfield and Will Brown on the left flank worked hard to regain possession of the ball and provide service to Joe Glenny up front. The second half began as the first had ended with City looking stronger going forward. Fin Gregory on the right and Toby Criss supporting from defence got forward in good areas. Central caused all sorts of problems for Dawlish in and around their penalty area in search of a goal and the Dawlish team made many blocks and tackles to prevent the away side from scoring. Central came closest to registering when captain Jamie Hammond did well stretching to get on the end of a knock back and his shot slid inches wide of the post . However, it was Dawlish who got the third and decisive goal of the game on a breakaway move that sealed victory for the home side. St. Martins (3) v Central City (3) 10.10.09 This was an open and free scoring game finishing in a 3-3 draw and a valuable away point taken back from St. Martins. On a sloping pitch Central played down the hill in the first half and dominated the play racing into a three nil lead by the break. Joe Glenny opened the scoring after Harvey Young's shot was only partially cleared and he reacted quickly to smash home the rebound from close range. Glenny added his second when he ran onto a quick throw-in down the right and got ahead of his marker to poke home at the near post. Central's third was scored by Harvey Young who collected possession on the right hand side and ran towards goal before cutting inside a defender and driving a powerful shot from distance across the keeper into the left hand corner. Central initially coped well playing up the slope of the pitch and adapted to the direct play of St. Martins. Central battled hard to win possession of the ball and were strong in the tackle. Callum Davison put in a great effort to help the team when the ball moved higher up the pitch. A long throw in for St.Martins put their forward through on goal to score. They added a second from close in and then believed they could get something from the game. Joe Heggadon made several fine saves to keep Central ahead including a magnificent effort diving to his right to turn the ball around the post. Shortly before full time a St Martins' defender let fly from long range with a fine shot that curled into the top corner to rescue a draw. Central United Matchday ReportsMatch 1 Playing with the slope in the 1st half did not seem to help the boys settle into any kind of pattern. A very lethargic start saw the boys go 1 down without really getting into the game. Some key positional changes perhaps added to the disruption. Luke Perry was an excellent makeshift goalie and Frank Trimble stuck to his defensive duties well. The real highlight for United though was a flash of genius from Thomas O'Donnell for the equaliser at 2 all. A great goal which should have sealed the draw. Match 2 United went a goal up in this game but never seemed to believe in themselves. Dawlish battled well and managed to stifle our main threat Oskar Pawlowski who tried his best to twist away. Talie Metcalfe-Wood was probably United's best player with good strong runs and a commitment that the others should take note of. 6 goals conceded was the result of a lack of cohesion and team ethic. The 2 new boys Oskar Pawlowski and Tom Wright proved themselves excellent additions to the squad with Tom's workrate a real highlight. It was Oskar though who managed to score on his debut so a really memorable day for him. George O'Brien scored the other goal and with 2 in the bag Central should have been able to secure the win. However, Arthur Burrow's determination to maintain his good looks resulted in the opposition scoring from the penalty spot. Match 2 - Central Unites 0 - 2 Exmouth I felt the boys let their wariness of the opposition stifle their ambition - we never really got after Exmouth. However, Will Gregory and Alex Pinsky again showed what confident defenders they are becoming with standout performances and Will Wenley also pulled off several terrific saves. Central City Matchday ReportsCentral City U10s 0 - 3 Exmouth Amateurs 26.09.09 This was Central's first game of the season against a strong team. After a nervous start there was good link up play in midfield with Will Brown, Jaime Hammond and Harvey Young playing well together. Joe Heggadon was very good in goal and Will Cashere and Toby Criss worked hard in defence. Exmouth's first goal went in just before half time. Though Exmouth were on top there was some good attacking football for City. Callum Davison battled hard throughout up front. Farzam Rezaie, Joe Glenny and Fin Gregory all had good games. The boys tired in the second half and Exmouth got two more goals but City didn't give up and were unlucky not to score. Central City U10s 1 - 0 Brixington Blues 26.09.09 Central had a much better second game with all players putting together some good moves and showing their skills. They worked hard to defend throughout with the team showing more awareness of positioning and marking. Will Brown scored an excellent goal from a tight angle after a great ball from Farzam Rezaie who played well up front. The midfield were strong with both subs, Will Brown and Harvey Young attacking and getting back to defend and Jaime Hammond running tirelessly throughout. Will Cashere had an excellent game as left back and all the players showed that their passing and tackling is improving. Toby Criss and Fin Gregory were strong in defence and Callum Davison and Joe Glenny played well upfront and in midfield. The game was exciting to watch: Brixington did not give up and had three excellent chances towards the end of the game all saved by City's Man of the Match, Joe Heggadon. James Dodd passed to White, who turned in the box, lifted the ball over the Hemyock defender and blasted the ball into the net. James Johnson, Max Hammett and Jack Cutting all had shots well saved, by the impressive Hemyock Keeper. Just before half time White completed his hat-trick. The second half was a tighter affair; The Rockets dominated possession without really getting shots on target. Eventually Conor Saunders added a forth to The Rockets Tally. A good start to the game saw Pikes apply early pressure. Charlie Fairchild and Simon Priddle both went close in the early exchanges. After the early pressure, a Simon Priddle cross was met by Tommy Lyons to tap in. Tedburn came back strongly and Pikes found themselves having to break up attacks, however some missed tackles led to an equalizer to put the game level. For the rest of the game Pikes pressed hard and continued to play well. Josh Hawkesby in his first competitive game for the Pikes played extremely well linking up with Morgan Cullen really well along with Simon Priddle. Charlie Fairchild found himself in a good position and tapped in from a Simon Priddle effort. Josh soon found himself in the action, crossing to let Tommy Lyons to score. Tommy completed his hat-trick from a great Hamish Edmond pass from a surging run from defense. Defense coped well for the rest of the game, with Daniel Cullen enjoying a good partnership with Baily Radford. Finally, Tommy Lyons grabbed a fourth goal from a Morgan Cullen cross to cap a fine team performance.
Pikes appeared a bit sluggish after the high tempo first game, and both sides seemed to struggle to gain some fluency. Pikes started to ball watch and their pressing game seemed to elude them, consequently Crediton maintained quite a lot of possession with Pikes struggling to break the play down. A first half with few chances, with only Lewis Densham excelling in goal making some important stops, and the defence managing to keep Crediton from having too many chances. A half time team talk to re-emphasise the need for work rate and hunger saw the Pikes start with renewed vigour. Working a lot harder they managed to put the Crediton defence under some pressure, resulting in a Tommy Lyons cross being tapped in from close quarters by Morgan Cullen. That goal was followed quickly by another Morgan Cullen tap in from a scrambled goal mouth. Pikes then relaxed and to Creditons credit they pressed hard and were rewarded with a goal. The last quarter was a tense affair, with Crediton doing most of the pressing with Pikes just holding out to gain an important win in a tight contest. A much tougher encounter than the score line suggests and by no means one-sided. Spears did dominate the early period and created a number of very good chances but could not show any composure in front of goal. Saints created some good chances themselves and Connor Radford had to keep his concentration, pulling off two of three good saves at a crucial period. Alex Roberts scored after some good interplay and relieved the pressure from the home team. A brilliant solo goal from Tyler Hickman showed his undoubted quality. He received the ball, turned and ran at the defence, beat three players and comfortably slotted the ball past the keeper. Jamie Vaughan-Ryall weighed in with a third to put the match beyond doubt. Jimmy Knight looked impressive in the middle of mid field, his usual determination together with a range of excellent passing but too many others were not on their game. There were signs of the flowing football we have come to expect and Spears have their keeper to thank for the clean sheet.
A very scrappy first half with both sides creating chances but the football was not great in terms of team performance. Tedburn look to have some talented individuals in their side and once they blend they will be very competitive. It was Tedburn who took the lead, albeit against the run of play, and through a number of breaks they could have been further in front if it weren’t for some last ditch defending and quality goalkeeping from Connor Radford. Pinhoe Spears battled hard but were just not yet firing on all cylinders and ended the half behind. The second half saw more determination and better quality on the ball although still chances went begging, until Jonny Farnsworth scored from long range. This lifted Spears who dominated for the remainder and although Ashley Carpenter grabbed the winner they should have made it much easier for themselves. Tom Ferdinand showed how much he has improved over the break with a high energy performance maintaining the standard set in friendlies. Tom Crees played very well at Centre Half, Adam Squire looked more assured in this one and Jonny Farnsworth enjoyed the freedom of right-back. Tiverton Town U 10s 0 vs 1 Moors Youth U 10sAn excellent game off football which swung from end to end throughout with both teams dominating in periods. Another difficult game for United who were missing there goalkeeper and defenders. Not surprisingly the team struggled to stay in the game despite working hard for an elusive goal. Dawlish -Matchday ReportDawlish United 1 - Crediton St Ettiene 0 Both teams started the game well, with neither team dominating possession in the first half. It was a tight game, which saw united's back two Cody Rackley and Nick Langley pope holding their ground against a well organised Crediton strike force. A lot of the play in the first half was seen in the midfield section of the field, both teams battling very hard, Midfielder and man of the match Max Armitage doing an exceptional job in midfield closing down the ball and tracking back to help out in defence Neither team was given much time on the ball. Although some great passing was displayed by both teams. Crediton had the majority of the chances in the first half, but Dawlish did very well in defence , with Keeper Harvey Hannaford displaying some confident handling of the ball. A chance came for crediton when some good passing in the midfield saw a well weighted pass land in the path of a crediton forward, but it was Max Armitage who tracked back from midfield to clear the ball away for a crediton corner. Crediton looked solid in defence and did well in marking Dawlish striker Corie Cleave. Jamie Middleton gave a good performance , and looked troubling to the crediton defence carrying out some great runs down the right hand side of the pitch, it was in fact Jamie who nearly broke the deadlock when a long range effort forced the Crediton keeper to make a fine save and deny Dawlish of their first. Second half saw Dawlish take a more confident approach to the game, and subsequently have more possession of the ball. A great run down the left from substitute Luke Morgan saw a good pass to Sam Wright who knocked the ball into the box to Max Armitage. Max confidently hit the ball into the top left hand corner of the net to give Dawlish the lead. Luke Morgan continued to trouble the Crediton defence, not scared of running at and taking on the Crediton back two and was unlucky not to have his name on the score board. Crediton came close to an equaliser after a run down the left hand side saw a shot fly past Dawlish keeper Harvey Hannaford and hit the post and go wide for a goal kick. The latter part of the game saw Dawlish midfielder Jamie Middleton have a long range effort which was palmed wide by an impressive Crediton Keeper Both teams gave an excellent display of team play and determination and Crediton were unlucky not to have got on the score board. But it was a well composed organised Dawlish team which got the well deserved win in the end. Dawlish United 5 - Crediton St Germain 0 Both teams came out very determined and the game started with a fast pace. The match started off close with both teams playing well. however, it wasn't long before Dawlish gained their first goal, when some great passing between the united midfielders, resulted in Striker Corie Cleave placing the ball into the back of the net to give Dawlish an early lead. After this goal Dawlish began to dominate the match with Corie Cleave hitting the woodwork twice, and Jack wills see a fine strike go wide of the far post Matty Ranger played some fine crosses from the right, and Tommy Saint had a couple of long range shots, which the crediton keeper did well to save.. Dawlish were relentless, and were unlucky not to be two or three up in the first half, Credit must be given to the Crediton defence who played some great football and did well to close down the Dawlish attack force. A goal nearly came for Crediton when a well hit shot forced goal keeper Harvey Hannaford to make a confident save and deny Crediton of an equaliser. Tommy Saint and Nick Langley Pope did well in defence protecting their keeper Harvey Hannaford, both giving noteworthy performances. Second half saw Dawlish make a couple of changes to the united line up, but not to the run of the game. United continue to threaten a second goal, and finally their persistence was rewarded when Jamie Middleton laid the ball back to Jack wills who confidently hit the ball into the bottom left hand corner of the net. The second goal was closely followed by a third. Crediton was unable to clear a well placed cross into their box, and a goal mouth scramble resulted in Max Armitage knocking the ball in the back of the net. Substitute Luke Morgan blasted home united's fourth, and it was Max Armitage who got the Fifth. Man of the Match: Corie Cleave. West Exe were in top form beating a strong Spartans side despite falling behind to a well struck goal. Man of the match Oliver Johnson pulled West Exe level almost straight from the restart beating three players to neatly slot home, he then squared the ball to Ryan Jackson who fired in from edge of box giving his side a 2-1 lead at the break. West Exe continued to play some great passing football in the second half and added to their tally with two goals from Jordan Brooks another from Ryan Jackson and two more from Oliver Johnson to complete his hat trick. Spartans never gave up and got deserved goal back just before the end. Pinhoe Gladiators 0 - 6 West Exe West Exe continued their from into their second game Oliver Johnson netting twice and younger brother James firing in at the near post to put West Exe three nil up at the break . Then substitute Jordan Brooks grabbed himself a second half hat trick to give West Exe a six nil win , although West Exe had to thank keeper Brandon Roberts for a clean sheet making two fine saves to deny Gladiators. United struggled to clear the ball from defence and the opposition took advantage on seven occasions. A consolation goal from Leon Ryder Potter was the high point of the game, but this was a match to learn lessons from. Central United 2 Westhill Hornets 2 United did well to get back in the game after letting in a couple of early goals. What would the team do for a clean sheet just now? Cain Garry started the fight back with a well taken goal after some good work from James Pearce. Honiton Hurricanes - Matchday ReportAlphington 1 - Honiton Hurricanes 4 There were little between the two sides to start with, but Honiton eventually began to settle themselves and string together some good passing moves. Alphington's defence was excellent and due to this Honiton were limited to long distance shots only. Alister Forsyth opened the scoring for the Hurricanes on 6 minutes, catching the Alphington keeper off his line from just inside the oppositions half, but Alphington were quick to respond and levelled the score with a powerful long range shot, to close the half 1-1. With everything to play for, the second half again began very evenly. Honiton found their stride more quickly though, taking the lion's share of the possession. The Hurricanes were soon rewarded for their efforts when Alister Forsyth slid home his second. This goal seemed to open up the Alphington defence, with Harry Leisk and then Mason Rhode stretching the visitors lead to an eventual 4-1 victory. Westexe 3 - Honiton Hurricanes 3 Westexe were quick to apply the pressure to the visiting team with some competent build up play, forcing Honiton to defend strongly against some quality crosses. Eventually Westexe found a crack in the Honiton defence and got their first goal in the 7th minute and managed to charge in a corner for a 2nd just before the half time whistle. The home side began to dominate again after the interval, scoring a third from the edge of the box and seemingly sealing a sound 3-0 victory. The Hurricanes had been finding it difficult to put any decent attacks in place, but in the 27th minute their determination paid off when a breaking Alister Forsyth fed a well timed ball for Blake Freemantle to strike first time past the advancing Westexe goalie - score 3-1. One minute later and Blake Freemantle found himself in exactly the same position, this time making the score 3-2 with less than two minutes remaining. Incredibly, Honiton used their new found momentum and in the very last minute of the match Alister Forsyth broke once again and managed to slide the ball under the Westexe goalie to level the game! Congratulations to all of the Honiton Hurricanes who played superbly together as a team - well done! Gladiators Quell RaidersSidmouth Raiders 0 - 2 Pinhoe Gladiators On a warm sunny spring Saturday Morning, two evenly matched teams battled out an excellent game, with Pinhoe Gladiators finally grabbing victory. The Pinhoe team of Callum Jones (GK), Niall Barefoot, Ben O'Keeffe, Tom Mills, Keir Durie, Nathan Powell, Jordan Cross, Tyler Hickman & Ollie Mills played some great passing football hitting the crossbar and watching the ball bounce agonisingly out (there is never a Russian linesman, when you need him!)in the first half. While Callum Jones in the Pinhoe goal had to be in sparkling form to keep the strong committed Sidmouth team out. The second half started with the Gladiators goal under siege from the Raiders, but "Man of the Match" Ben O'Keeffe played superbly to clear off the line twice and try and pass the ball out of defence on numerous occasions. The Gladiators absorbed all the pressure and began to assert there passing skills and confidence back into the game. Finally Keir Durie scored the opening goal and the Gladiators stormed forward and Jordan Cross scored a well taken second goal. Sidmouth Warriors 3 - 0 Pinhoe Gladiators The second game of the morning kicked off, under summer conditions, with the sun shinning down and the temperature rising. The Pinhoe team of Callum Jones (GK), Niall Barefoot, Ben O'Keeffe, Tom Mills, Keir Durie, Nathan Powell, Jordan Cross, Tyler Hickman & Ollie Mills battled against an excellent Sidmouth passing team, who used the size of the pitch superbly. The Gladiators kept the score to nil all at half time with some resolute defending and again Callum Jones in goal was outstanding. The second half saw wave after wave of pressure from the Warriors and eventually scoring two goods goals from two well worked corners. The third break away goal, coming when the Gladiators had a good spell of possession and were looking to claw there way back into the game. Alphas Matchday ReportALPHINGTON JETS 1 - 4 HONITON HURRICANES Dawlish Matchday ReportBrixington Blues 1 - 0 Dawlish United Both teams got off to a quick start with early chances at both ends. Luke Morgan was unlucky early on when he did well in a one on one situation to pick up a good through ball from Jack Wills only to see his shot go wide. Brixington Blues scored their goal against the run of play at the time when the attacker managed to break through an absent united defence to slot his shot past closing keeper Harvey Hannaford. Soon after Luke again found himself in the action when a good ball from Sam Wright found Luke unmarked only to put the ball over the bar. Inspired by their goal Brixington started to create some chances and Tommy Saint and Cody Rackley were combining well to thwart their attacks. When they did break through it required man of the match Harvey Hannaford to produce a point blank save from a header on one occasion. In the dying minutes of the half Luke was again unlucky when he managed to put the ball through the keepers' legs from a Matthew Ranger pass only to see the defender clear off the line. In the second half Jamie Middleton made an instant impact with a good shot which he saw saved. Minutes later Jamie's shot was well blocked and he was unlucky with his speculative over head effort. Harvey Hannaford produced one of a string of fines saves from a corner. Max Armitage was unlucky to see his long range thunderbolt really well held by the keeper. Nick Langley-Pope and Jack Arnold were now being worked hard at the back by a determined Brixington side. Corie Cleave worked tirelessly upfront but the defenders were all too close at hand. Harvey Hannaford made a superb full length diving save low to his right to keep his team in it and again made a breathtaking point blank save from a well hit shot. On another occasion Harvey did well to push another effort over the bar. Whilst Dawlish could have converted several chances in the first half, Brixington Blues could equally have converted several chances if it was not for inspired goalkeeping from Harvey Hannaford and Brixington were the worthy winners in a well fought encounter. St Martins 0 - 3 Dawlish United Disappointed with their performance in the first game the United boys were challenged to show how they could respond as they knew they were up against a well organised St Martins side. They responded immediately. In the first minute Sam Wright's good left foot effort was well saved. Moments later Max Armitage, Corie Cleave and Jamie Middleton combined really well with one touch passing for Jamie to produce a quality finish. Corie Cleave scored the second when he picked the ball up on a one on one situation to slot the ball coolly through the keepers' legs. Sam Wright was unlucky to see another good effort go over the bar. Jamie was now a constant threat doing well to close the ball and create chances. Despite the majority of the play Jack Arnold and Nick Langley-Pope showed good concentration to quickly deal with the St Martins' attackers on a couple of occasions. Jack Arnold produced a fantastic long range effort which the keeper did well to turn away for a corner. Max Armitage was workmanlike midfield winning his tackles and headers. Corie was unlucky to see another effort saved when he cleverly flicked on a long through ball from Nick Langley-Pope. Corie was again in the action when he was fouled just outside the box with Max Armitage just clearing the bar from the resulting free kick. The second half saw a more determined St Martins side and Jamie Middleton did well to track back to cover the good defensive duties from Cody Rackley and Jack Arnold on the right hand side. Early on Corie Cleave's shot from Jack Wills' pass was just wide. Harvey Hannaford again showed his quality with a great near post save and from the resulting corner he produced a flying save to avert the danger. He again was called into action moments later and used his quick reflexes to save. Corie Cleave was rewarded for his hard work when he scored a really good individual goal. Jamie was unlucky also to be rewarded for his efforts when his shot was well saved. At the other end Cody Rackley produced a great block on the line when Harvey was eventually beaten but in the dying minutes Harvey again saved well in a one on one situation. The man of the match award goes to the whole team for their brilliant response to the disappointment of the previous game and for producing a good all round team effort. All credited to a St Martins side who despite their early set back continued to battle. After several near misses Crentral's goal came from William Johns. Central finished strongly but ran out of time to get an equaliser. Central City and Alphington played a friendly giving both teams the chance to try out some new ideas. Alpington looked the sronger for much of the first half, scoring two goals which Thomas Roome replied to twice for Central to set the score at 2-2 at half time. Alphington continued to play well butCentral looked the stronger in the second half and two goals in quick succesion from Jake Newman gave central a comfortable cushion. Two more goals followed from Will Tutchings and Jim Shepherd. Falcons have another good morning
Culm United Falcons came across a couple of very competent Crediton Saints sides at Tiverton College and ended the morning with two more unbeaten performances as they recorded a 0-0 draw against St Germain and then won 2-1 against St Etienne. The first game, against St Germain served up a quite first half during which time neither goal keeper, or defence, was made to work too hard. But that changed after the break as Falcons created four very healthy chances, none of which they could take but, on the collective performance of the seven man St Germain side, anything other than the share of the spoils they got for their efforts, would have been harsh on them. Falcons were not at their best and as slick as they had been the previous week this was more of a game when the ball was considered to be more of a hot potato, but they did improve after the break and with Connor Pengelly, Luke Horne, Oliver Marsden and Ryan Shrewsberry, sharing the defensive duties, it was no surprise that keeper Jordan Biss delivered yet another clean sheet.
The game against St Etienne was a different contest in as much as there was a much better tempo to the affair with both sides always looking to create. With Falcons tweaking their line up it meant William Birley and Oliver Elsworthy got the tasks of working up and down the respective flanks. Falcons went ahead when a neat interchange between Pengelly and Elsworthy ended with Mortiboys hammering a shot that the visiting keeper could only parry into his goal. The visitors levelled after the break when a shot from a very similar position to that the games first goal had come from, deceived the Falcons stopper but it was no more than Falcons deserved when, with just two minutes remaining, Elsworthy knocked a long ball up and over the top that Tom Mortiboys latched onto, outran the Saints defenders and, as the keeper stood his ground, the young hit man fired home to seal a 2-1 victory. The same player ran through in an identical situation a minute later as the visiting side threw bodies forward to get back into the game, but a 3rd goal would have been harsh on a Saints team who gave as god as they got throughout a contest that was very favourable on the watching eye. For Falcons, Horne and Pengelly were again resolute at the back whilst for Saints it was their diminutive but very skilful number 4 who was as outstanding as team mate, the forward thinking number ten. Both sides can be very proud of their efforts on the day. Dawlish Matchday ReportWest Hill Wasps 0 - 1 Dawlish United On a very bumpy pitch both teams got off to a slow start. Dawlish United were unable to get their usual game flowing and when the midfield trio of Jamie Middleton, Max Armitage and Sam Wright did manage to get things moving they were quickly thwarted by a determined wasps defence. At the other end some smart defending was required from Jack Arnold and Nick Langley-Pope to prevent a wasps team, now growing in confidence. The closest United effort came from a long ball from Max Armitage which found Luke Morgan whose effort was well blocked, albeit with several claims for handball. Despite an increasing tempo in the closing stages the United boys were unable create any real goal scoring opportunities. The second half saw the introduction of fresh legs and the United boys survive a couple of scares at the back thanks to assured goalkeeping from Harvey Hannaford. Max Armitage was unlucky to see his good left foot effort well saved. Corie Cleave produced an excellent solo run only again to see his good effort well blocked. Matthew Ranger produced a couple of good runs but to no avail again being blocked by a very disciplined defensive unit. United rode their luck when a long range effort from the wasps hit the bar. Man of the match Jack Wills combined well with Max Armitage in midfield and looked a constant threat. The only goal of the game came from a good cross from Jamie Middleton for Corie Cleave to produce an excellent header which the keeper did well to turn away. Jack Wills was first to react and produced a cool finish from a very tight angle. Jack then saw two further efforts well saved by the keeper. West Hill Hornets 1 - 2 Dawlish United The united boys started much more brightly in the second game and Corie Cleave was in determined mood in midfield producing brave and effective tackles. The first goal came early on when Sam Wright picked up the ball on the left and played a long through ball to man of the match Luke Morgan who produced a quality finish in a one on one situation. Luke was unluckly minutes later to see his free kick go just wide and scored his second following a good combination with Corie Cleave who slotted a pass back to Luke to finish well under pressure. Sam Wright was now producing good runs on the left hand side one of which saw him set up Corie Cleave who was unlucky to see his effort well blocked. At the back Tommy Saint was growing in confidence with several good challenges and he did well to block on one occasion. Harvey Hannaford produced two good/brave saves to keep the hornets at bay. Matthew Ranger produced a good long range effort which he saw just clear the crossbar. The Hornets took the initiative in early the second half and Harvey Hannaford demonstrated his concentration at the back when intercepted a couple of long balls and he punched the ball well under pressure to clear the danger on another occasion. He was unlucky when he was adjudged to have carried the ball over his line for the hornets goal. Max Armitage and Jamie Middleton were dominating in midfield with good tackling and long through balls. Max saw his long range free kick tipped away from the top corner by the keeper. Nick Langley-Pope responded well to the increased pressure from the hornets and organised and took the lead in the defensive duties with a now assured Tommy Saint doing well to win challenges in front of him. Central City Matchday ReportsRaiders 0 - 0 City Having met Sidmouth Raiders on 2 previous occasions this season Central city took the opportunity to try out a few changes. Leon Ryder Potter put in a very creditable performance in his first outing for City. Reece Allen and William Tutchings enjoyed the more free roaming role afforded to them with Laurence Joy keeping things tight at the back. City created many chances but found an excellent raiders keeper on top form. The raiders had good attacking spells and William Johns was called on to keep City's slate clean. Warriors 1 - 0 City Central City played well against the warriors and matched them for most of the game. The real difference was the clinical finishing of the Warriors . Central looked like scoring on a number of occasions following good build up play frequently involving Aiden Pring, Jim Shepherd and Thomas Roome but they were unable to convert their chances and ended up disappointed not to have got a point. Tiverton Town Matchday ReportTiverton 2 vs 1 Crediton St Etienne Falcons swoop to double success, two clean sheets too!CULM UNITED FALCONS (0) 4:0 (0) Alphignton Mortiboys (2), Birley, Horne
CULM UNITED FALCONS (0) 1:0 (0) Westexe Leaney
Culm United Falcons entertained Exeter duo Alphington and Westexe and managed to beat them both without conceding a goal in the process. The opening fixture was against the Alphas who really do look a very competent footballing side with a dominant skipper pulling the strings and a pair of full backs who have clearly been getting some great coaching in the art of full back play in as much as they are always ready and available, and indeed willing, to take the ball off their keeper to keep possession. The game was locked at 0-0 at the half way with both defences in control. For the Falcons it was the first time that Connor Pengelly (who is actually age qualified for Under-9 football) and Luke Horne had been played together in a central defensive partnership and so good was their positional discipline and general control that they rarely allowed the Alphas a real strike at Jordan Boss in the Falcons goal. The deadlock was broken after the restart when Matty Leaney fed in Tom Mortiboys and the latter scored with a fierce drive and shortly after the same player doubled the lead, this time with some help from Oliver Marsdon, he was replaced by William Birley. The newcomer to the game had been on the pitch just two minutes when he latched on to a superb through ball by Horne and ran on to pass then ball into the net and a 4-0 win was completed when, after some strong tackling by Ryan Shrewsberry the ball was fed into the Alphas box and Horne just got it before team mate Oliver Elsworthy to fire home. Alphington played their part in an entertaining game that was very pleasing on the eye with both teams playing some lovely passing football.
The game with Westexe was a re-match between two sides who had met exactly four Saturday’s before on Valentines Day on the smaller pitches at Sampford Peverell. This was a very good game with both sides committed again to a contest of pass and move football. Both goal keepers were called into action in a first half that produced a stalemate, albeit, one that was good on the eye. Once again the visitor’s skipper was their most influential player and he was at the centre of all his sides’ creative work. Falcons were clearly growing I confidence the longer then game went on, given that they had lost the cup tie, and heavily too. However a real ace up the Falcons sleeve was the fact that in the defensive duo of Pengelly and Horne they had too young lads who had been cup tied and therefore could not play in the previous meeting and what a difference those two make to the show shape and balance of the Falcons side. All teams need solid basis to play from and the three man defensive grouping of Jordan Biss with the gloves behind Pengelly and Horne and it was there for all to see that it would take something very special to break them down on then day. With William Birley providing a number of clever touches leading the line, Ryan Shrewsberry and Oliver Marsden providing good engines in the midfield area and the flank work being done by Matty Leaney and Oliver Elsworthy and the industrious and always threatening, Tom Mortiboys, Falcons looked good to at the very least, take a point for their toils. That they got all three was very much down to an instinctive shot with his trusty left foot by young Leaney and once the goal went in Birley was withdrawn for Shrewsberry to provide extra cover in the midfield area and with Pengelly and Horne determined to see it through the Falcons deservedly got through to the final whistle with their goal unbreached. In the closing stages Westexe did throw everything they could at the cause and it took some excellent heading and blocking from that back two and Oliver Marsden as well as some excellent handling by Biss, but Falcons were good value for the win against a very competent, and clearly well coached, Westexe side.
Falcons Coach Paul Hawkins siad: "It was a very good all round morning for us. We played two sides who are clearly as keen to get it down and play as we are. There was not a bad challenge to be seen in either game and both Alphington and Westexe probably left feeling they deserved to take something fro the games. But on the whole my lot were superb. To keep two clean sheets against such opposition speaks volumes for what were a couple of inspirational performances from Connor Pengelly and Luke Horne in front of safe hand Jordan Biss. In front of them we had the ever industrious Ollie Marsden together with Ryan Shrewsberry who gave great support whilst the wing play was taken care of by the lively Oliver Elsworthy on one side and Matty Leaney on the other and then of course we had Tom Mortiboys and William Birley who look a pair of lads just waiting for the chance to play together in a front line pairing as soon as number of players on the pitch permits. It was all very encouraging from my point of view and makes me feel very comfortable with the future for this particular team. What I would like to add is how magnanimous both sets of beaten coaches were and I thank them for also going about the respective games in the way that they did. Football was the winner on the day."
Exwick Matchday ReportMoors youth 2 Exwick youth 0 Feniton Hornets 3 - 3 Heavitree CometsThe proverbial game of two halves was how this game could easily be summed up with the Hornets winning the 1st half 3 - 1 and the Comets winning the 2nd half 2 - 0. Comets had the first chance early on when Elliott Murch sent sa ball in from the right wing for Jack Challice who fired in a great shot that forced the Feniton keeper into a fine save. This was an early wake up call for Feniton who played the first half with the wind at their backs. A free kick for Feniton some 20 yrds out was struck superbly and with the Comets keeper beaten, it was only the crossbar that kept the ball out. On the 5 minute mark Feniton took the lead with a ferocious strike from Josh Cann that was unstoppable, with the Comets still rocking Feniton extended their lead with another great footballing move that ending with Tom Harrison firing in to make it 2 - 0. The Comets started the 2nd half looking like a different team and took full advantage of having the wind behind them. They appled enormous pressure thoughout the half and kept Feniton in the own half for much of the 2nd half, but it took until 25 minutes in before they finally pulled back another goal with Jonathon Kirk firing home from short range. The Comets could clearly sense they were back in the game and with onlya few moments to play William Gregory got his second of the game to level the scores at 3 a piece. That was how the game ended and on reflection it was probably Feniton who thought they should have had the win, but the Comets shoulded dogged determination to get themselves back in it. Well done to both teams for providing a great game of entertaining football. Such an approach produced excellent football and its due reward when Nathan Townsend ran through the Crediton defence for an excellent opening goal. Dawlish United 1 - 2 West ExeExeter Youth League Under 10s Cup Competition Quarter Final - Dawlish United 1 - 2 West Exe It was obvious from the start that this match was going to be close. Both teams started well in this quarter final cup match. Much of the first 5 mins didn't see either team breaking forward, Max Armitage and Sam Wright did well in the midfield section of the pitch, with Frankie Maloney and Jack Arnold, ensuring the West Exe strike force was kept at bay. United broke the deadlock when Sam Wright played a long cross from the left hand side into the West Exe box. The so far faultless West Exe defence struggled to deal with the high ball, and it was Jamie Middleton who got on the end of it and managed to calmly side foot the ball into the back of the net. This first goal was followed by a number of chances for Dawlish. Sam Wright continued to play some great crosses into the centre, but Dawlish were unable to place the ball into the net. Max Armitage played some great football, and was unlucky to see a long range effort fly over the Westexe bar. Frankie Maloney was exceptional in defence and did well to keep the ball out of United's box. A chance for Corie Cleave came after a well weighted pass from Max Armitage landed in his path. Corie was left with only the keeper to beat. The West Exe Keeper did well in reading the play and came out to clear and deny Corie of scoring united's second. West Exe were unlucky not to equalise after penetrating the Dawlish defence. A strike from the West Exe striker saw Harvey Hannaford mishandle the ball, but he did just enough to push the ball wide of his net. West Exe's pressure was finally rewarded when a run through the midfield saw the Dawlish defence leave the West Exe striker unmarked, a pass to the forward allowed him to strike the ball into the top left hand corner of the net. Second half saw United's manager make a few changes, Nick Langley Pope , Matty Ranger, and Luke Morgan all put in good performances, but it was West Exe who took hold of the game, and had the majority of the chances . A great individual run up the centre of the pitch from a West Exe midfielder saw him place the ball into the left hand corner of united's goal, to give West Exe their second. Dawlish didn't give up, a great strike from Jamie Middleton just went wide of the post, and Max Armitage nearly levelled the score when a well struck long distance shot forced the Westexe Keeper to tip the ball over the bar. In the dying minutes a corner for Dawlish saw Max cross a long ball to Jamie Middleton how knocked the ball wide for a goal kick. United continued to battle, but in the end a well organised West Exe team were deserving winners. Newton Abbots passing style was matched by a combative and spirited Thoverton who made tackle after tackle and never gave in. Newton Abbot pushed on in an attempt to level the scores but in fairness Thoverton from that point on always looked in control. They doubled their score when Newton Abbot failed to clear in front of their own goal which secured the semi final place. Well done to both teams for an excellent game of football. Man of the match Owen Smee for Newton Abbot and Thovertons goalkeeper. Central United Matchday Report 28/02/2009Central United 0 Crediton A 0 The first goalless draw of the season, Central United were helped by the presence of an extra player. Crediton showed their quality and despite playing with 6 the game was evenly matched and fairly contested. Central United 2 Crediton B 2 Another good game that should really have been a victory for United. However, United were not helped by the tendency to leave players with too much space and Crediton scored to good breakaway goals, slightly against the run of play. Ryan Lee scored a good goal for Central after James Pearce had opened the scoring. Dawlish -Matchday report 28th FebDawlish United 1 - 0 Moors Youth Both teams started the game well, with neither team dominating possession. It was a fast pace game, which saw united's back two Frankie Maloney and Jack Arnold holding their ground against a well organised Moors strike force. It was a long ball down the left from Jamie Middleton to Luke Morgan which gave Dawlish their first chance. Luke controlled the ball and ran the ball down the left flank, and struck it well, a Moors defender clipped it wide to give Dawlish their first corner. The corner came to nothing, and the Moors defence did well to move the ball quickly out of their own area. It was easy to see by the quality of play from Moors that this was not going to be an easy match for Dawlish A lot of the play in the first half was seen in the midfield section of the field, both teams battling very hard, midfielders Max Armitage and Sam Wright looking particularly strong and focused. Neither team was given much time on the ball. Although some great passing was displayed by both teams, neither team was allowed to dominate the match. Another chance for Dawlish arose when Luke Morgan fed a good ball through to Jamie Middleton who was unlucky not to break the deadlock after slicing the ball just wide of the right hand post. Moors responded with a chance of their own, when a solid strike from outside of the box was met with a confident save from Harvey Hannaford who did well to keep hold of the ball. A great kick from the Dawlish Keeper then put Luke Morgan one on one with the Moors Keeper, who did well and produced a fine save to deny Dawlish of their first. Second half saw much of the same as the first, with both teams starting as they began the first. Dawlish made a couple of changes to their line up with substitutions Corie Cleave and Nick Langley-Pope coming on to add some fresh legs to this fast paced game. Nick continued where Jack Arnold left off and did a good job at the back, with Corie looking lively upfront. It was not long before the deadlock was broken, when some great interplay between Max Armitage and Sam Wright saw the ball passed out wide to Jamie Middleton who slammed the ball into the top corner of the goal. The Dawlish goal did not however deter the trailing team from continually pressurising the united defence. Dawlish were lucky not to concede a goal, as a couple of goal mouth scrambles saw the Dawlish defence struggle to keep the ball away from their own net. On one occasion a strike from the Moors forward saw the relieved Dawlish keeper watch the ball bobble wide of his own post. Matty Ranger came on for Sam Wright and displayed some good passing skills. Dawlish were close to getting a second goal, when a free kick on the outside of the area saw Jamie Middleton strike the ball just over the bar. Both teams gave an excellent display of team play and determination and Moors were unlucky not to have got on the score board, but in the end it was Dawlish who had the edge and went home with the win. Dawlish United 7 - 1 Stoke Hill Dawlish got off to a quick start, and it was early pressure which forced the first chance for United. Stoke conceded a free kick just on the outside of their area, and it was Harvey Hannaford who stepped up to take it, powerfully striking the ball on target, forcing the Stoke keeper to make a very good save . Stoke struggled to penetrate the Dawlish defence, with both Tommy Saint and Nick Langley-Pope putting in good performances. It was man of the match Jack Wills who scored united's first, as some persistent play from Dawlish was finally rewarded when Jack struck the ball into the left corner of the goal. Stoke did not drop their heads after the goal, and began to put the Dawlish defence under increasing pressure.
