Old Reports - Under 11s (Division 2)

Stoke Hill 1 - Heavitree 0

What a game this was. Full of action, determination, energy and sportsmanship. The glorious sunshine made it even tougher for the boys but their stamina took them through this grueling competition that saw Stoke Hill win 1 nil, also giving themselves a bit of daylight between them and their local rivals, in the league.

The first half ended goalless but there were chances at either end. Towards the end of the first half Stoke Hill were awarded a penalty for hand ball, but unfortunately they failed to capitalize and a good save from the Heavitree keeper kept it even at the break.

The second half started much the same, end to end with both midfields battling hard. Finally, with about 10 minutes of the game left the ball broke to Mark McIntosh in the centre of the Stoke Hill midfield. He looked up, saw he had a little time, pushed the ball to the edge of the Heavitree box and then fired a wonderful shot that drifted into the top of the net. Shortly afterwards Stoke Hill nearly doubled their lead when Greg Brimson got his head to cross but a fantastic point blank save from the Heavitree keeper kept them in it.

Stoke Hill battled on and managed to snuff out the final Heavitree attempts to equalize. Man of the match - Jordan Hatch - for some excellent defending for Stoke Hill throughout.

Culm Falcons (3) 9:1 (0) Broadclyst

This was a close encounter for the first third of this contest as a well organised Broadclyst side battled bravely against the excellent passing on a billiard table like surface at Sampford Peverell. It was not until the 21st minute that the deadlock was broken, but then, three goals in five minutes put the hosts on top. A short corner between Mitchell Dart and Oliver Elsworthy saw the latter blast home the opener and the same player finished well to double the lead before Falcons keeper Jordan Bisswas forced to make a smart save to deny Reece Jordan.

A minute later the save was all the more crucial as, at the other end, skipper Tom Mortiboys raced clear and tucked the ball away to put his side 3-0 up heading into half time.

After the break two goals in as many minutes from Matty Leaney put Falcons into a nap hand lead before Alex Farrington scored from close range for the visitors. Falcons then bounced back to quickly restore the five goal advantage when Mortiboys struck his second from a Mitchell Dart cross and a cross from Dart then flew into the net for 7-1.

Dart headed in an eight and the coring was completed, as it had begun, by the fleet footed Oliver Elsworthy to seal another strong Falcons display and a 9-1 victory. Broadclyst played their part in a good game of footbal and it was a common held view amongst the home faithful that the visitor's were amongst the most improved side's they have come across this term in the Division.

West Hill Wasps 1 Ottery St Mary 3

It was derby day at Ottery St Mary for the under 11s As West Hill Wasps took on Ottery St Mary on a beautiful Saturday morning. After all the playground banter, the boys from both teams produced a fantastic game of football in a mature and friendly manner.

The Ottery side started the brighter of the two and it took a great tackle by Tom Badcott in the West Hill defence to stop Josh Goddard early on. West Hill then broke and a good ball from Well Kerr found Lewis Douglass who shot wide.

The opening goal soon came at the end of a great passing move, an inch perfect cross by Kyle Stone, and it was leading scorer Tom Collins who rose like a salmon to head home for the Otters.

The Ottery side now had their tails up and pushed West Hill back and doubled their advantage soon after. An attack down the right was pushed out for a throw By Tom Badcott, Shaun Jepson took the Throw and Tom Collins headed on for Josh Goddard to stab home at the far post.

The Otters who were having the better of the first half exchanges couldn't rest as West Hill tried to get back in the game and it took a great save from the Ottery keeper Rick Pollington to keep them out after good work from Sam Blakemore. Then it was the Otters turn as Alex Flinders got the better of Tom Badcott but his shot was well saved by Callum Hardwick in the West Hill goal. Another throw almost resulted in a third for Ottery but Brad Goodier headed just over and the half came to an end.

West Hill had the better of the opening stages of the second half and pushed the Otters back looking to get back in to the game. Cameron Souter-Frost worked well in midfield and on a number of occasions broke through the Otters defence. West Hill forced a corner and it took a class save from Rick Pollington to keep out Charlie King. Then the Otters broke forward and it took an equally great save from Callum Hardwick from a Brad Goodier angled shot.

The game was now end to end and played like a proper local derby. While West Hill had had the better of the opening stages of the second half it was now Ottery who looked like scoring as Tom Collins headed against the bar, Dan Jeacock then shot just over.

The game was almost turned on it's head in the very last minute, a good move by West Hill, Elliot Culling passed to Cameron Souter-Frost who got the ball into the ottery box and Lewis Douglas scored with a low shot.

From the kick-off the Otters regained their two goal advantage. West Hill still celebrating their goal, went to sleep and Tom Collins rose to head home. In the end the Ottery side just about did enough to deserved their two goal advantage but it was by no means easy.

A great game of football by all the boys, both goalkeepers Ricky Pollington for Ottery and Callum Hardwick for West Hill get men of the match who were both alert and agile and could do nothing about any of the goals. The Ottery boys gave the West Hill boys three cheers at the final whistle which was returned by the West Hill boys, well done everyone.

All the boys and coaches should take credit for producing a great entertaining local derby refereed impeccably by Paul Swingler.

Wasps Pay the Price despite Dominating

Ottery U11 3 West Hill Wasps 1

West Hill Wasps U11's failed to make their superiority count when losing a fiercely competitive game 3-1 against Ottery. A slow start for the Wasps ultimately cost them the game as Ottery capitalised by scoring two goals within the first ten minutes. Far from letting their heads drop the West Hill team took the game to their opponents and were somewhat unlucky to turn around at the break 2-0 down. The second half saw the Wasps continue to play both the better passing football and well as dominate with 65% possession of the ball. Charlie King was beginning to unsettle the Otters defence with a number of probing runs and the midfield battle was won by Cameron Souter-Frost showing his class on the ball. The Otters were penned back time and time again, but despite knocking on the door the Wasps couldn't get that all important goal their football deserved. Ottery were by now reliant only on the big boot out of defence but on the few occasions they ventured forward Tom Badcott snuffed out any danger, with the ever dependable Callum Hardwick in goal thwarting any sign of danger.

Forty minutes of pressure finally told with Lewis Douglas slotting home from the edge of the box to pull it back to 2-1 with little left on the clock. A fortuitous corner and the last action of the game saw a rather unjust 3rd goal from Ottery to make it 3-1 on the day. Both teams were a credit in what was a thoroughly entertaining game, only marred by some ungracious behaviour by a parent as the whistle blew. The boys will play each other again in a couple of weeks in what will be an eagerly anticipated return match.

Kentisbeare 1 - 8 Heavitree

The rain held off this morning to allow play to go ahead as Heavitree were the visitors to Kentisbeare.

Heavitree started the game at full speed with some great football being played and lots of desire. Heavitree were soon rewarded for this with a goal for Liam Gallagher on 5 mins making it 1-0. Heavitree continued to play smart passing football and had chance after chance to extend their lead but did not finsh with enough precision and the chances went begging.

It looked as though the half would finish this way until on 28 mins Matty Burrough slotted home to make it 2-0 at half time. The second half started the same as the first with all the pressure coming from the visitors and on 36 mins Liam Gallgher got his second to make it 3-0. Two minutes later it was another from Matty Burrough to take it to 4-0.

At this stage kentisbeare could not cope with the constant pressure and flowing football from Heavitree and on 41 mins Heavitree were 5-0 up through Josh Jays. It was turning into a white wash as Liam Gallagher got his hat trick on 45 mins with a clever finish making it 6-0.

Kentisbeare did have some chances but were foiled by the super strong Heavitree defence. After lots of hard work in midfield by Callum Owens he was rewarded on 52 mins with a goal to make it 7-0. The game finished with two late goals right on 60 mins the first a consolation goal for Kentisbeare to make it 7-1 followed by another for the hard working Callum Owens to wrap it up at 8-1.

A great performance by Heavitree with possibly some of their best football of the season, the boys should be proud of the way they applied themselves to the game today and constantly worked hard for each other to create the chances they did.

(Louie,Sam,Josh,Jo,Lewis,Bradley,Guy,Callum,Liam,JJ,Matt)

Goals :- Liam Gallagher (3), Matty Burrough (2), Callum Owens (2), Josh Jays (1)

Man of the Match :- Callum Owens (For his fine performance in midfield)

Thanks to Kentisbeare for being very good hosts.

Heavitree 3 - 2 Kentisbeare

It would not be a Saturday morning without a bit of drizzle in the air as Heavitree were hosts to Kentisbeare. The game started with a very quick goal for Heavitree after 1 minute, Josh Jays (JJ) ran down the right wing and seemingly from nowhere lobbed the keeper from outside the box to make it 1-0 to Heavitree. Heavitree continued to play the better football with some good passing moves and plenty of attacks at the Kentisbeare goal, but could not make them count.

Kentisbeare also had periods of pressure and for much of the first half the teams were equal and both had chances to score, but it was Heavitree who extended thier lead on 26 minutes with another from Josh Jays (JJ) picking the ball up on the half way line and from distance a powerful shot into the top left corner. The Kentisbeare keeper could only just get his finger tips to it but could not stop it flying in to make it 2-0. Heavitree finshed the half strongly to keep thier half time lead.

The second half started with more pressure from Heavitree and this payed off on 38 minutes with a lovely corner from Josh Jays that the keeper could only parry over his own head for the quick thinking Matty Burrough to head home to make it 3-0. Heavitree looked to be cruising to a 3-0 win with only a few minutes left on the clock when suddernly Kentisbeare struck back with a late goal to make it 3-1.

Straight from the kick off Heavitree were panicing and with a minute into injury time a penalty was awarded to Kentisbeare for a push in the box. The Kentisbeare player slotted home to make it 3-2 and set up a nervous finish to the game but Heavitree held on to claim all three points.

Dispite conceading two late goals the Heavitree players should be proud of thier performance with some great passing football, solid defending and clinical finishing from JJ and Matty.

Solid keeping from Conner in the first half and Dan in the second half. Great defending from Josh P, Joe and Sam. Influential performances from Guy and Callum in central midfield. Excellent work on the wings from Liam, Francis, Jordan and Josh (JJ) And good work up front from Matt.

Man of the Match goes to Josh Perris in defence for an outstanding game with constant battling through out the whole match, "a sterling performance".

Goal scorers :- Josh Jays (2), Matty Burrough (1)

Culm Falcons 12:0 Central

Falcons powered to a 12-0 win over a plucky Central side. Oliver Elsworthy (3) William Birley (2), Mitchell Dart (2), Oliver Marston (2), Philip Andrew, Ryan Shrewsberry and an own goal, made up the home goal scorers.

The nearest Central came to breaking down an impressive home defence was when Leon Ryder-Potter headed just wide form a fine cross by Ruari Mold.  Despite the score-line, Central keeper Cian Gary made some exceptional saves whilst for the hosts, midfielder Mitchell Dart was influential, striker William Birley was creative and goal keeper Jordan Biss was able to keep his fifth clean sheet of the season.

Stoke Hill 5 - Ottery St Mary 1

Stoke Hill started this game off the back of an unlucky defeat at West Hill; and Ottery were coming into it on a high with a string of recent good results. It made a recipe for a great match with the added bonus of glorious spring sunshine.

The game kicked off and Stoke Hill immediately went on the attack. Josh Moore used his pace to take the ball down the wing and then cut inside at the by line to fire in a cross that squeezed through the unfortunate Ottery keepers legs and trickled into the net. For large parts of the next 20 minutes Ottery dominated but were thwarted by some excellent goalkeeping by Adam Cotgrove. With Ottery pushing forward they found themselves loose at the back, allowing Stoke hill to capitalize. Further goals from Connor Anderson and Edward Mullarkey saw Stoke Hill go into the break 3 nil up.

In the second half Ottery continued to pressurize but again Adam Cotgrove was immense in the Stoke Hill goal keeping out a number of chances with a show of determination and bravery.

Stoke Hill themselves battled on and their 4th goal came when Mark McIntosh floated a delightful through ball in to allow Edward Mullarkey to score his second. Stoke Hill's 5th came soon after when Connor Anderson fired the ball into the top corner.

Ottery kept their heads up and kept pushing until the end and grabbed a consolation. End score 5-1 Stoke Hill. Man of the match - Adam Cotgrove.

Cullompton Rangers 1-2 Culm Falcons

Cullompton Rangers lost their unbeaten record in a close encounter with Culm Falcons who won by the odd goal in three. Then game was worthy of both a local derby and a meeting between two sides who had together won19 of their 20 matches to date.

All the goals came in a ten minute period either side of half-time.

Falcons substitute William Birley's first touch released Falcons skipper Tom Mortiboys to fire his side ahead in the 24th minute and in the final minute of the half, the same player trucked away a penalty awarded for handball from a well delivered Mitchell Dart corner.

Four minutes after the re-start the home side were back in the game with a goal from close range but that proved to be the end of the goal scoring although Jordan Biss was at full stretch to keep out a second Rangers effort midway through the second half.. For Falcons, central midfielder Dart was the stand-out performer whilst Oli Elsworthy had another fine game on the wing. Jack Rawllings and Mark Webber shone for the hosts.

Broadclyst 1 - 5 Heavitree

A lovely sunny morning saw a game played in good spirits between the home side Broadclyst and the visitors Heavitree. The game started well and both teams had chances but it was Heavitree who took the lead with Guy Wilmott looping the ball into the box and the Broadclyst keeper fumbling the ball into the net. It wasn't long before Broadclyst equalized with a good attack and the Heavitree defence caught napping the keeper was lobbed to make it 1-1. A few minutes later Heavitree were back in front through a fantastic shot by Callum Owens. It wasn't long before Heavitree extended their lead, this time it was Matty Burrough finding the net with a cool finish to make it 3-1 at half time.

The second half started with all the pressure and possession coming from Heavitree and this paid off mid way through the second half with a second for Matty Burrough. Heavitree continued to boss the possession and got their fifth near the end through Josh Jays with a typically fine finish in the bottom left corner. Heavitree were good for the win with most of the possession, chances and some excellent flowing football.

Goal scorers for Heavitree:- Guy Wilmott (1) Callum Owens (1) Matty Burrough (2) Josh Jays (1)

Fine performance from the whole team:-  Daniel, Nathan, Sam, Joe, Josh, Guy, Callum, Liam, Josh (JJ), Matty.

West Hill Wasps 2 - 0 Stoke Hill

West Hill Wasps U11's got back to winning ways beating placed Stoke Hill 2-0 in a game that wasn't as close as the scoreline suggests. As early as the 3rd minute livewire Charlie King burst through the static Stoke Hill defence to test the keeper's reflexes to force an early corner. Despite the odd counter attack Stoke Hill were never in the match yet managed to hold the hosts goalless at the break. Coach Nigel Blackmore's half time words saw the Wasps came out for the second half in determined fashion with Tom Gardner and Will Kerr in particular in majestic form with Tom Badcott and Callum Hardwick resolute as the last line of defence.

Eventually the dominance of West Hill came to fruition with Charlie King finishing off a flowing end to end move to bury the ball past the helpless ‘Hill' Keeper. Now with their tails up Cameron Souter-Frost got the goal his performance deserved by thundering the ball from distance into the top corner of the net - game over. The boys seem to be re-discovering their best form at the right time as the business end of the season now starts.

Culm Matchday Report

Culm Falcons won their Exeter Youth League under-11 Division Two game against Pinhoe Gladiators 9-1. Falcons had tried to play the match at Uffculme, Sampford Peverell and even Uplowman but, with al, three pitches unfit after the rain, the game was played on the Magelake AstroTurf surface.

The first half saw the hosts score three times through Matty Leaney and a brace from Oliver Elsworthy whilst the visitors, for whom goalkeeper Callum Jones made a number of fine saves, replied through Ben O'Keefe.

Some changes at the break led to a dominant second half show from the Falcons who hit six, unanswered goals through Oliver Marston (2), Jack Aldred, Tom Mortiboys, Oliver Shuster-Woods and birthday boy, William Birley.

Shuster-Woods was the star of the first half for the home side and, after the break; it was Jack Aldred who showed fine touches.

Pinhoe played their part on a surface that was unforgiving for those without a credible touch and continued to look to pass the ball. Indeed they would have had at least one other goal but for some fine defensive blocking and one tidy save from the Falcons keeper, Jordan Biss.

Next up for the Falcons, who have no game this coming weekend, is a top-of-the-table clash with leaders Cullompton Rangers, the only side above them in the table. That game is set for Speeds Meadow on March 13

Central 1 - 4 Heavitree

On a bitterly cold morning Heavitree were away to Central at King George 5th Playing Field.

Both teams started well with some good passing play at times. Both teams had chances to score but it was Heavitree who made theirs count when on 7mins Liam Gallagher received the ball in the box and with a terrific shot smashed the ball into the top left corner of the goal making it 1-0 to Heavitree.

Heavitree continued to pressure but Central held their own and got back on level terms after 20mins when a defensive error lead to a Central player breaking through and slotting it past the Heavitree keeper to level at 1-1.

The rest of the half seemed pretty level with both teams cancelling each other out at times but on the stroke of half time Guy Wilmot when on a run and forced his way into the box then coolly slotted the ball into the bottom right hand corner of the goal to give Heavitree a 2-1 lead at the break.

Heavitree made some changes at half time and they began to pay off when with only 1min on the clock Guy made an excellent pass through to Josh Jays who in typical fashion went passed one, then another and smashed it in the back of the net to give Heavitree a 3-1 lead.

Heavitree began to play more of their normal football passing the ball well and working hard in defence to keep Central at bay and limit them to just a few half chances. It was with this style of football that Heavitree extended their lead through Francis who from the edge of the box lobbed the keeper with a fantastic left foot shot in to the top right corner taking the score to 4-1.

Central had some chances near the end that could have reduced the deficit but Heavitree kept solid and saw the rest of the half out and took all three points to continue their impressive season.

Credit to Central for making a game of it and well done to all the Heavitree players for another fine performance.

Goal scorers for Heavitree: -    Laim 1, Guy 1, Josh (JJ) 1, Francis 1

Pinhoe Galdiators 0-8 Culm Falcons

Four goals in each half took Falcons to an 8-0 win at Stoke Hill Junior School. Against a competent home side who always looked to passfalconspinhoethree_400 the ball in what were difficult conditions with an icy wind blowing across the pitch it was the goal power of the visitors that proved decisive.

Not that the Pins were not creating chances of their own but, once again, Falcons goal keeper Jordan Biss displayed solid safe hands and his defence were quick to close down the home side. Jack Aldred and Philip Andrew both his first half braces and, in the second half , goals from Oliver Elsworthy (2), William Birley and Matty Leaney sealed an 8-0 win.

Heavitree 7 - 1 Pinhoe

The sun was shining on a dry morning as Heavitree were hosts to Pinhoe Gladiators.

Both teams started well and for the first 5 minutes it looked as though it could be a close game but on the stroke of 6 minutes, up popped Liam Gallagher with a glancing header to put the ball passed the Pinhoe keeper (1-0). Heavitree continued to pressure and with 12 minutes on the clock Matty Burrough made it (2-0) with a cool finish.

More of the same from Heavitree and 19 minutes gone Josh Jays (JJ) made it (3-0) with a fine finish under the Pinhoe keeper.

21 minutes gone and Liam Gallagher gets pushed in the back in the penalty box "Ref gives a penalty" Liam steps up and strikes but the Pinhoe keeper guesses the right way and manages to save.

With half time approaching Matty Burrough comes up with a fantastic strike from outside the box and puts it in the top corner leaving the Pinhoe keeper no chance of getting near it (4-0).

The second half started much like the first with all the pressure coming from the home team and within 8 minutes Heavitree were (5-0) up through Josh Jays, then after 12 minutes another from Josh Jays making it (6-0). Heavitree were playing some good passing football and as a result Matty Burrough curled in an inch perfect cross for Josh Jays to find the net once again with a dramatic diving header on the stroke of 20 minutes (7-0).

The game was nearing the end and both teams looked like they were tiring, Pinhoe broke clear and the ball was crossed into the box for one of their players to slot into the net with 3 minutes remaining on the clock (7-1).

The game was very much one sided in favour of the home team but in truth Pinhoe had quite a few chances and if they had taken more of them it could have been a closer game.

Great performance from Heavitree with Man Of The Match going to Matty Burrough for his role in midfield and his fine strike in the first half.

Rock solid defence from Nathan, Sam and Joe.

Great midfield partnership from Josh Jays and Matty Burrough with Will and Francis on the wings.

And a fine performance from Liam and Daniel

Solid keeping from Conner and Louie.

Goal scorers for Heavitree:-  Josh Jays (4) Matty Burrough (2) Liam Gallagher (1)

Culm Falcons 8-1 Brixington United

Culm Falcons beat a battling Brixington United 8-1 in a game switched  from a waterlogged Sampford Peverell to the slightly dryer Friends Provident pitch at Clyst St Mary. Oliver Elsworthy turned out to be the game's star individual firing a twelve minute hat-trick as Falcons led

6-1 at the break. The hosts never stopped battling and impressed with their enthusiasm and energy and, in left back Tom Cooke and goal keeper Jack England, they had two excellent performers. England was superb, pulling off a string of superb saves and his distribution with the ball was also exceptional. Falcons though reigned supreme as they displayed a clinical approach to their shooting with some fine goals.

Mitch Dart (2), Jack Aldred, Tom Mortiboys and Sam Bird, completed the scoring, but it was young Elsworthy who emerged as the star of the show.

Feniton 0 - Stoke Hill 11

On a chilly Saturday morning Feniton and Stoke Hill kicked off and a hard fought first half saw Stoke Hill go into the break 2 nil up with goals from Edward Mullarkey and Connor Anderson.

The second half was a more one sided affair with hat-tricks then from Mark McIntosh, Harvey Newman and Josh Moore. Credit must be paid to goalkeeper Adam Cotgrove and the Stoke Hill back line for keeping their first clean sheet of the season.

Although all of the Stoke Hill players had outstanding games, man of the match goes to Josh Moore for some excellent wing play, not only scoring his hat-trick but creating several of the other goals too.

Culm 4 - 0 Heavitree

CULM Falcons goalkeeper Jordan Biss became the first Division Two

under-11 goal keeper to chalk up three clean sheets this season as his side scored four unanswered goals against visiting Heavitree who had notched up 45 goals in their previous seven outings!

Tom Mortiboys, the impressive Jack Aldred and Oliver Elsworthy fired Falcons into a 3-0 half time lead and Matty Leaney added a fourth in the second half. Biss was given excellent first-half protection by the back three of Oliver Shuster-Woods, Zac Hide and William Birley but was pressed into service to make two excellent second half saves.

Mitchell Dart and Oliver Elsworthy had fine games in the Falcons midfield. The Heavies goal keeper had a fine game and, after they had changed things around at the break, they played their part in an entertaining, and even second half and, had Biss not made a super save at 3-0 midwway through the secodn half the outcome may well have been different.

Stoke Hill 9 - Central 1

Stoke Hill's home game against Central was relocated to Centrals ground due to lack of space at Stoke Hill. However, Stoke Hill fully dominated the fixture as though they were in fact playing at home. An excellent all round display of passing, pure determination and goal scoring saw Stoke Hill win their first match in three.

From kick off Stoke Hill put Central under pressure, the ball was rarely out of the Central half in the first 15 minutes. A goal was slow to come though, until a delightful cross in from the left by Harvey Newman allowed Edward Mullarkey to volley home. Stoke Hill continued to attack and more goals quickly came. A Connor Anderson penalty, and then goals from Mullarkey, Thomas Baker and Newman took Stoke Hill into the break 5 nil up.

In the second half it was more of the same although with Stoke Hill continually pressing forward, Central were able to produce the odd break. However, with Jordan Hatch tracking back well, and Adam Cotgrove quickly coming off his line when required, these breaks were all but thwarted.

More goals soon came for Stoke Hill. Edward Mullarkey gaining his hat-trick, Harvey Newman a brace, and Josh Moore took Stoke Hill to 8 - 0. A consolation goal for Central then came when Newman fouled in the box and a clinical top corner penalty made it 8 -1, before Mark McIntosh capped a fine performance in midfield for Stoke Hill to make it 9 -1.

Feniton 2 - 14 Heavitree

It was a cold morning but at least it was dry and Heavitree had to travel away to Feniton.

Heavitree started strongly and took an early lead through Matty Burough, Heavitree continued to pressure but a deflected clearance from the Heavitree keeper against his own defender made it 1-1. Heavitree got straight back into it from a tight angle with a supurb top corner strike from Josh Jays (JJ).

Heavitree continued to pressure with Guy Wilmott making it 3-1 with a great strike. Heavitree carried on the good work and were soon 4-1 up with another strike from Josh Jays and 5-1 before half time through Josh P.

The second half continued the way the first finished with Heavitree pushing forward and they were rewarded once again with goals making it 6-1, 7-1 and 8-1. Feniton broke away to get another concelation goal to make it 8-2. Heavitree finished the match with ease and some style at times with a further 6 goals making

the final score 14-2.

It was a great game for Heavitree but hard forture for Feniton who did not stop trying all game and were clearly under strength and deserve full credit for their efforts and should be proud of thier performance with the resources they have available.

For Heavitree it was a 100% performance from all with goals from Josh Jays (4) Matty Burough (4) Guy Wilmott (2) Liam Gallagher (2) Josh Perris (1) Lewis (1)

The Man Of The Match award was fiercely contested between Guy Wilmott & Josh Jays but for his 4 goals, miles of running and countless assists it has to be Josh Jays, but Guy Wilmott was outstanding in his central role.

Well done to all involved for providing a superb adveritsment to youth football.

Stoke Hill Matchday Report

Ottery St Mary 1 - 2 Stoke Hill

Saturday afternoon saw a rescheduled match being played between Ottery St Mary and Stoke Hill. The conditions were diabolical but credit must be paid to both sides who fought out a tough match that saw Stoke Hill win their 4th on the trot.

In the lashing rain Ottery began the more confident. But for some fine defending by Stoke Hill and some excellent goalkeeping by debutant Adam Cotgrove, Ottery could have easily been in the lead in the early stages. Stoke Hill started to get into their rhythm and after some good passing play between Edward Mullarkey and Harvey Newman, they managed to scramble a goal - Harvey Newman picking up his 5th of the season.

Ottery continued to press and showed their strength is pushing forward. Stoke Hills lead was short lived as Ottery equalized with a well taken goal that left Adam Cotgrove no chance.

The second half was an even affair with both sides carving out chances but as conditions underfoot worsened it looked as though the game was likely going to end as a draw. Suddenly, Ottery were able to break and it looked as though they were going to snatch it, however, with Adam Cotgrove beaten in the Stoke Hill goal, Mark McIntosh was able to clear off the line.

With 10 minutes left it was Stoke Hill's turn to break. The ball was played out wide on right where Josh Mooreas able to pick it up, and with his fantastic pace he was able to race into the Ottery box before blasting home. The final minutes were an anxious time for Stoke Hill but they held on to ensure that the 3 points were theirs.

Heavitree 4 Ottery St Mary 6 - 12th Sept 2009

Two late Heavitree goals took the shine of what would have been an emphatic away victory for the new Ottery St Mary under 11s.

The young Otters almost took the lead in the first minute when Tom Collins shot just over. Heavitree broke forward and a great save from Rick Pollington in the Ottery goal kept it at 0-0. It wasn't long before the Otters took a the lead, Aiden Mitchell battled well to set up Kyle Stone who Coolly shot under the keeper. Heavitree where soon back in it when a good cross was met on the volley leaving the keeper no chance. Ottery almost regained the lead when Alex Flinders put Kyle Stone through who's shot went just wide. Heavitree tried to attack but some great defensive work by Bradley Goodier and Jac Khaliq kept them out.  Minutes later Ottery went 2-1 up when Alex Flinders scored his second in two games, turning in a shot from Tom Collins. Just before half time it was 3-1 when Tom Hayes took the ball forward and shot brilliantly in to the Heavitree goal.

The second half started as the first had finished with both teams trying to attack The home side shot just wide before the Otters pushed forward in numbers and Aiden Mitchell set up Shaun Jepson who shot over the keeper from the edge of the box to make it 4-1. Heavitree hit back with a bizarre goal when the ball was shot high into the air and dropped into the goal to make it 4-2.

Ottery attacked again and Alex Flinders brought a save out of the home keeper and a minute later Aiden Mitchell released Tom Collins who shot low beyond the keeper to make it 5-2. With 10 minutes left, Aiden Mitchell got the goal he deserved slotting his shot into the far corner to make it 6-2. Ottery made two substitutions with James Hepworth and Kristian Shaw coming on and continued to attack at every opportunity. But in the last few minutes Heavitree hit back with a long shot to make it 6-3 and with the very last kick of the ball made it 6-4 at the final whistle.

A great display by both teams and Heavitree should win more games than they lose on this showing. The Young Otters should all be proud after a great performance and victory in there first game.

Thanks also to the officials and players of Heavitree for the kind welcome received by ottery St Mary under 11s.

West Hill Wasps U/11s 2 v 5 Honiton Town U/11s

Honiton end on a high!
Honiton Town completed their league programme on Saturday, with a fine 2-5 victory away to West Hill Wasps.  The home side, knew that defeat would see them relegated, and for Honiton victory would see them top 40 points.

The opening exchanges were keenly contested and if anything, West Hill passed the ball to greater effect.  Nevertheless, the visitors opened the scoring, when top scorer Neil Parris headed in at the far post.  Todd Beanlands, doubled Towns advantage shortly after.  West Hill, continued to press forward and Callum Nicholas was kept on his toes in the Honiton goal.  His save on 30 minutes, was superb.

A well struck West Hill shot, seemed destined for the back of the net, before Nicholas, dived, full length to his right to push to ball away, one handed.  Shortly before half time the home side hit the post. Benjie Cramer, further increased Honiton's lead, after half time, before West Hill pulled a goal back from a header.  Cramer then added his second, before Parris appeared un-marked at the far post to slide in his 25th goal of the season.

The home side, managed a second goal near the end.  This was Honiton's 16th and final league game of season and their playing record ended with 13 wins, 2 draws and only 1 defeat.  They finished top of the table, by20a margin of 8 points.

Man of the Match - Callum Nicholas.

Central 9 - 3 Countess Wear Dynamoes

Already promoted Dynamoe's were second best for much of this game even though getting off to a great start through Jacob Chadwick. However it was Central who's better passing and higher workrate took charge of this game, and were soon 2-1 up.

The Dynamoe's were dealt a blow shortly after when Captain Corey Jones had to come off after a knock to the Knee, Dynamoe's certainly missed his presence in defence but credit must go to Central who's passing was causing the Dynamoe's problems all over the pitch. Central extended their lead to 6-1 before Nathan got one back for the Dynamoe's.

Central bagged a further 3 before Nathan scored another to bring the game to 9-3. Both teams hit the post/bar on several occasions and Curtis in the Dynamoe's goal pulled off a string of great saves in an effort to keep the score below 10. On reflection Central were by far the better team and Countess Wear were glad to hear the final whistle.

Alphas Athletic U/11s 2 v 2 Honiton Town 2

On a warm sunny morning, Alphas entertained Honiton on Saturday morning.  Having clinched the title last week, the visitors were able to relax somewhat, in this, their penultimate fixture.

In previous encounters, these sides have proved to be very evenly matched and this proved to be the case in the opening exchanges.  Alphas, played the better football, but their attacks were dealt with by some decent Honiton defending.  Honiton, had a number of opportunities to take the lead, but poor finishing let them down, thus it remained 0-0 at half time.

Town took the lead, shortly after the break, when a well struck shot from Kyle Blackmore gave the keeper no chance.  Honiton increased their lead after Todd Beanlands effort was fumbled by the goalkeeper and found its way in to the net.

Honiton looked comfortable at 0-2, but to their credit, Alphas kept looking for a way back in to the game, to keep their hopes of clinching runners - up spot alive.  Honiton's manager made a less than inspired change and moved the strikers in to defence as he sought to give all the players experience of different positions.

This proved to be Towns undoing as Alphas scored twice towards the end, when Honiton really should have cleared the ball on the first occasion.   In the end, a draw was a fair result, and both teams look forward to further games next season.   Man of the Match - James Branson.

Sidmouth Warriors 1 - 3 Countess Wear Dynamoe's

Dynamoe's Turn on the style.

The Dynamoe's traveled to Sidmouth on this sunny Sunday morning and certainly brought their A game with them. From the off they were playing some gret flowing football with all players looking very comfortable on the ball. Their tackling was sharp, passing pin point accurate and desire to win every ball evident from the start. Sidmouth did their best to contain the Dynamoe's but the fresher Dynamoe's (Sidmouth playing their second game in 2 days) were on top form today and only had winning on their mind.

The first goal came half way through the first half after some great passing play saw the ball end up at the feet of Callum Pringle, he beat the last man and left the keeper with no chance to stop his shot. Sidmouth tried to respond but the trio at the back for the Dynamoe's (Corey, Daniel and Leon) were equal to everything Sidmouth had to offer. However this didn't stop Sidmouth drawing level after a clearance was hit back towards goal from about 25 yards and seemed to just pass through everyone before slipping past Curtis in goal down at his right post. A surprised Dynamoe's took the game to Sidmouth again and dominated the rest of the first half.

The second half carried on much the same as the first with the Dynamoe's enjoying large amounts of possession and some of the finest passing football that has been witnessed all season. The second and inevitable goal for the Dynamoe's came from Callum agian whos powerful shot was clearly going in from the moment it left his boot, the Sidmouth keeper being beat by two unstoppable goals. As the game went on Sidmouth began to tire and this just gave the Dynamoe's more time to pick passes and have fun on the ball as well as create several chances which resulted in several close calls, Leon Davis was denied by the post after wriggling his way past 3 or 4 Sidmouth players before managing to squeeze his shot away.

The 3rd goal came from Jacob Chadwick who's shot towards goal required Nathan to jump over and out of the way leaving the Sidmouth defenders and keeper rooted to the spot not knowing where the ball was going, unfortunately for Sidmouth it was the back of the net. The Dynamoe's put in another excellent performance today through out the whole team.

Honiton Town U/11's 6 v 0 West Hill Wasps U/11s

Honiton Town, clinched the U/11's Division 2 title on Saturday, with a fine display of attacking football.  Near neighbours West Hill were undone by the home sides slick and accurate passing, which laid the platform for the home sides victory.

The midfield trio of Lewis Doe, Ollie Reed and Owen McCreadie-Taylor, ensured plenty of possession and served their strikers well. Todd Beanlands, opened the scoring, before Neil Parris added a second to see Town lead 2-0 at the interval.   Safe, in the knowledge that victory would see them claim the title, Honiton made 3 changes at half time.

It did not take long after the re-start, for them to increase their lead, when Lewis Doe, volleyed in, Ollie Reeds well taken corner.  West Hill, were unable to mount any sustained attacks, but on the odd occasion when they did threaten, they found the home defence of William Tyers, James Branson, Jerome Branson, Daniel Hole and Ben Facey, too strong and well organised.  Keeper Callum Nicholas, had a quiet morning between the sticks.

Neil Parris added Honiton's forth, with Owen McCreadie-Taylor and Benjie Cramer, grapping goals 5 and 6.   All of the Honiton boys, have exceeded expectations this season. They are an honest, hardworking bunch who have been a delight to work with.

Their, attacking style, coupled with their passing game, has been a joy to watch.  Furthermore, they have shown determination and character to battle back from behind to win important games.  However, in the final analysis, it is their consistency that has been their trump card.

Heavitree Comets U11s 2 v 4 Honiton Town U/11s

Honiton completed the double on Saturday over a very spirited and competent Comets side, the game played at Ladysmith School.  Games between these two sides are always keenly contested, but nevertheless good natured.  Both teams started brightly, but it has to be said that the pitch was not condusive to flowing football!  Consequently the opening exchanges resembled ping pong as both sides sought an opening.  The visitors broke the deadlock around the 15 minute mark, when leading scorer Neil Parris reacted quickly to turn in a cross shot in to the net, which the Comets keeper had failed to hang on to.  Knowing that a win would take them clear at the top of the league, Honiton upped the pace, Todd Beanlands, broke free on the right and delivered an inch perfect cross, from which Parris added his second, with a superb diving header to see Honiton lead 0-2 at half time.

Any hopes that Heavitree may have had of taking 3 points from this game, were extinguished soon after the re-start, when Tood Beanlands shot bounced over the Comets keeper to send the visitors in to a 3 goal lead.  To their credit, Heavitree never gave up and scored and fully deserved to pull a goal back with a great strike, which went through at least 4 or 5 defenders. 1-3.  This only served to spur Honiton on and they gained a corner from, which Benjie Cramer headed Towns forth.  As the game entered its final stages, the Comets scored as good a goal as you will see, when a thunderous strike from fully 25 yards sailed in.

This was a lovely game to watch, between two sides who seek to play attractive attacking football and both teams should hold their heads high for producing such an excellent game.  Honiton's parents would like to thank all connected with Heavitree for extending such a warm welcome.  The two sides look forward to their next encounter, at Honitons Six-a-Side Tournament in July.

Joint Man of the Match - Ben Facey / Jerome Blackburn.

Heavitree Comets 2 - 4 Honiton Town

Today's game saw two very evenly matched teams vying for all three points, with neither side looking like they had any intention than to play attacking football.  For the opening 10-15 minutes both sides passed the ball well and the midfield cancelled one another out keeping the game at a stalemate.  The Comets first opportunity of the game came moments later after they finally put a series of passes together that culminated in Dan Foster forcing the Honiton keeper to make a great save.  For a short period here the Comets seemed to be in charge of the game and another opportunity was brought about by more interlinking but the shot never happened as William Gregory just didn't seem to be able to release the ball.  Honiton caught the Comets on the break around the 25 minute mark when they were in on goal forcing a great first save from the Comets' keeper, which rebounded back in to the path of the onrushing Honiton forward who fired in on goal and his deflected shot gave the keeper no chance. 0-1.

The Comets tried to get right back into the game, pressing forward Matt Preece had a throw in that reached Christian Ellis near the edge of the penalty box who flicked it on for Elliott Murch who fired another good shot at goal, but the keeper dealt with it easily.  Just before the end of the first half Honiton went 2-0 up after some strong battling played by the Honiton forward who managed to get his cross into the area for a superb headed finish making it 0-2.

The second half started with the Comets going a further goal behind from a mistake at the back from the Comets keeper, when he allowed the ball to bounce over him to land in the back of the net.  The Comets kept their composure and continued to play some great football but were finding it difficult to penetrate a very well organised Honiton back line.  The break did come for the Comets, after about 15 minutes when Matt Preece drove the ball long and hard through the crowded penalty area to hit the back of the net, and the unsighted goalkeeper had no chance.  1-3. This goal clearly affected the confidence of both sides, lifting the Comets and worrying the Honiton defence who, straight from the re-start almost allowed the Comets right back in to the game when AJ ran through the back line to fire in on goal, but he hit the upright and with Christian Ellis sliding in, his touch went narrowly wide of the upright.

Honiton recomposed themselves and came right back at the Comets and playing a highline they managed to force another goal in from a goalmouth scramble killing the game off and securing the three points.

The Comets weren't finished yet as Matt Preece got his brace with a thunderous strike from some 25 yards out that hit the back of the net before the keeper even knew it was coming.

This was a really entertaining game of football between two very evenly matched teams, played in a spirit that it would nice to see all games played in.

Man of the Match: Edward McKenna

Heavitree Comets 2 -1 Countess Wear Dynamoes

This was always going to be a close game after the last encounter produced a 3-3 draw, and it took right up to the last minute of the game before the teams were separated.

The Comets started the game with great confidence playing the highline and Christian Ellis was playing some great through balls for William Gregory to catch hold of, the first of which, in the second minute of the game, forced the Dynamoes keeper to make a fantastic save.  Another great move that started with Ellis put Jack Challice through to provide the assist for Louis up front who fired the ball just over the bar.  Around the 5 minute mark the Dynamoes launched a great counter attack with some one touch football that was only stopped by some very stout defending and eventually ended up with the Comets getting a goal kick.  The first goal of the game came in the 8th minute after Dan Foster had done all the hard work from the centre of midfield to get out wide, run down the line and send the ball across the box, past the keeper, who had committed himself for William Gregory to tap in making it 1-0.

The Comets continued to apply pressure, denying the Dynamoes' Nathan Antat several opportunities to run in on goal and kept their team playing on the back foot.  If it hadn't been for the great defending of the Dynamoes, Jacko would have put the Comets 2-0 up in the 15th minute.  For much of the remainder of the first half the Comets continued to play some great interlinking football every time they moved forward and with every counter attack that the Dynamoes launched the Comets met them with a very strong back line that kept the first half at 1-0.

The second half started with both teams throwing everything, including the kitchen sink, at one another in an attempt to break each other's defence down and after around 10 minutes of the second half, and constant pressure, the Dynamoes finally got the equaliser they deserved after a speculative punt into the area was not cleared off the line by the goalkeeper, which presented the Dynamoes' forward with a straightforward tap in.

In the true fashion the Comets have played this season they kept their heads high and went straight back at the Dynamoes and a thunderous strike by Billy ricocheted off the cross bar keeping the score at 1-1.  Moments later Ellis launched another great strike which again was well taken by the Dynamoes keeper.  With time pressing on gaps were appearing at the back for both sides and the Dynamoes came close to edging the lead but the ball was scrambled off the Comets' goal line.  With the play now going from end to end, the Comets had the next chance at around 5 minutes remaining, when Matt Preece fired in from an angle only for the ball to slide along the cross bar and out of play.  From the re-take, the Dynamoes were back at the Comets goal mouth but with a long ball out from Jeff Angila the Comets finally got their second goal of the game which proved to be the winner when William Gregory latched onto Angila's ball to fire it at goal; it came back off the upright but like any true striker who has that predatory instinct, he followed up to slam past the keeper.

This was a very entertaining game to watch with two very equally matched sides, but I think on balance the Comets deserved the win they got.

Comets Man of the Match: William Gregory

Alphas Athletic 1 Countess Wear Dynamoe's 2

Dynamoe's were back to winning ways tonight as they traveled to Alphington. Both teams played some great football in this thoroughly entertaining game. It was easy to see why these teams are near the top of the table.

The Dynamoe's who have been off form recently put in one of the displays of the season and were in front midway through the first half as Lewis Steer found space in the box to guide the ball past the keeper. Both teams had chances throughout the first half and Alphas almost equalized but the ball scrapped the wrong side of the post.

The second half began with Alphington having large amounts of possession but the Dynamo's defence (Corey Jones, Daniel Cockram and Daniel Libretto) was in no mood to give anything away today and was equal to whatever Alphington was throwing at them, Alphington did however come close on a few occasions, hitting the post and making Curtis in goal pull of one of the saves of the season, a shot which was hammered along the floor looked like it was destined for the back of the net but Curtis at full stretch dropped to his left and not only stopped the ball but held onto it as well (believe me it was a fantastic save).

Shortly later Dynamoe's were having some good possession and found themselves 1 on 1 with the Alphington keeper on more than one occasion, each time the keeper kept his cool to get the better of the attacker. It was the Dynamoe's however who scored the vital second goal, a well worked corner by Leon Davis and Calum Pringle saw the ball crossed in for Josh Jays to pounce in the box and guide the ball past the stranded keeper.

Alphington got 1 back from a corner with about 5 mins left, the ball placed into the corner from a header. Both teams shared the play for the rest of the half and on reflection the Dynamoe's just edged it and the whole team can be proud of the excellent performance they put in.

Congratulations also to Alphington who played their part in one of the best games of the season I have seen.

Great comeback

 Honiton Town U/11's 4 v 3 Countess Wear Dynamoes U/11's
Not, for the first time this season, Honiton battled back from two goals down to overcome the previously unbeaten Dynamoes in this entertaining contest.    League leaders Honiton, against second placed Countess Wear, this was always going to be a tense affair.

Both teams started confidently and the home side went close on a number of occasions.  It seemed as if it would be one of those days when they just could not score!  Dynamoes, took the lead after a poor clearance fell straight to one of their players, who made no mistake.  The visitors second goal came from similar circumstances to give them a two goal lead at half time.

The home side, made a number of positional changes in an effort to inject more solidity to their midfield.  Joint Man of the Match, Olllie Reed, made a massive impact in the centre of midfield and this allowed the wide players more space and freedom.  The Dynamoes, were unable to match Honiton at this point and could have been guilty of thinking the game was won.  Neil Parris latched on to a good through ball from Lewis Doe to claw a goal back.

Enjoying large periods of possession, the home side equalised, when James Branson's free kick soared in from long range.

With the Dynamoes on the rack, Honiton took the lead for the first time, when Lewis Doe lobbed the keeper.  William Tyers, cleared off the line, before the Dynamoes, came back with their third goal as the game entered the final minutes.  Neil Parris, saved the best till last.  Receiving the ball with his back to goal, he swivelled and shot past the the Dynamoes keeper to earn a share of the man of the match award.

Honiton, deserved this victory after a great comeback and all the boys should be congratulated for their commitment and will to win.

U/11's Cup - Quarter Final

  Honiton Town U/11's 1 v 5 Brixington Blues U/11's

Honiton Town top of Division 2, entertained Brixington Blues top of Division 1 at St Rita's on Saturday.  Any thoughts Honiton may have had of causing an upset, were quickly extinguished by a very competent and efficient Blues team.  The home side rarely touched the ball for long periods as Brixington raced to a 3 goal lead at half time.

Honiton, with one eye on next weeks League game, made several changes at half time as they sought to give all their players some game time.  Todd Beanlands, pulled a goal back with a well take shot, to register his first goal for several weeks, as Honiton fought back.  Honiton's, purple patch, resulted in a series of corners, which lead to a flurry of activity in the penalty area, and could have lead to a second goal, had it not been for determined defending by the Blues.

Brixington are not un-beaten by chance, and are without doubt the best side to have visited St Rita's for some time.  They added 2 further goals before the end, one of which was a well struck free kick.   In the final analysis, Honiton were well beaten.  However, they never allowed their heads to drop and can be pleased with their committment from beginnning to end.

Man of the Match - Owen McCreadie-Taylor.

Sidmouth Town Warriors U/11's 2 v 3 Honiton Town U/11's

After last weeks impressive performance, Honiton, not for the first time this season, needed to battle back from 2 goals down to overcome a determined and physical Sidmouth team.

It must be said this was not a game for the purest and Honiton never matched last weeks dizzy heights.  Sidmouth started by far the more lively and at times the visitors appeared to be chasing shadows.  Having said that, Neil Parris did get free on the left on more than one occassion, however some robust defending halted his progress.

Sidmouth, took the lead, after a mix up in the Honiton defence, which saw the ball drop invitingly for a Sidmouth forward, who made no mistake from short range and lead 1-0 at half time.

Honiton, made a number of changes at half time and this appeared to give them better balance and shape.  The midfield trio, began to take control and force the Sidmouth defence deeper and deeper.  Nevertheless, it was the home side who scored  next after a clear foul by a Honiton defender.  With still over 20 mins left, Honiton gambled, substituting a defender for an additional striker.

Neil Parris turned a Lewis Doe shot in to reduce the lead, before a super long range strike from James Branson, levelled the scores.  Honiton, were by far the better side by now, as they sought the winner, Parris was fouled near the edge of the box and Branson stepped up to convert the free kick.  As the game entered the dying moments, Sidmouth broke clear and were unlucky not to snatch a share of the points, when a cross/shot struck the bar.

Heavitree Rockets 2 - 11 Alphington

Alphington  enjoyed a comfortable victory against a Heavitree side that showed a lot of character in battling through to the end.

James Ingham got the scoring off to an early start with a good finish from a Connor Garmendia drag back. James Probert then rounded the goal keeper twice in as many minutes to make it 3 - 0, with Corrie Gloyn scoring from a very tight angle and Garmendia scoring from distance to give the Alphas a 5 - 0 interval lead. Heavitree started the 2nd half well and had a period of pressure scoring 2 quick goals, before Gloyn added his 2nd and Garmendia added 2 further goals to take his tally to 4.

Goalkeeper Michael Southard made a rare appearance out field late on and scored a poachers goal after a George Richards free kick hit the cross bar. Matthew Cram completed the scoring after going through one on one with the keeper to give the Alphas an 11 - 2 Victory.

Honiton Town 4 v 2 Alphas Athletic

Honiton Town produced their finest performance for a number of weeks as they overcame Alphas Athletic at St Ritas on Saturday.  Straight from the kick off, the home side took the game to the Alphas and Neil Parris fired them in to the lead with only 1 minute on the clock.

Alphas, who it should be said are a good passing side mounted numerous attacks, especially down the left flank, but on more than one occasion, these were broken up by the ever improving Ollie Reed in the Town defence.

Honiton's midfield trio of Beanlands, Doe and McCreadie-Taylor began to see more of the ball and used it to good effect.  McCreadie-Taylor added a second goal, before Beanlands, skipped past several defenders and crossed well for Man of the Match, Benjie Cramer to react quickest and turn the ball past the Alphas keeper, to see Town lead 3-0 at the interval.

Alphas, came out for the second half determined to make a game of it and attacked the Honiton goal from the off.  They pulled a goal back, when their impressive number 16, this time did manage to break free on the left and finished well with a low drive past keeper Callum Nicholas.  Not to be out done, Parris restored Honiton's 3 goal advantage, when he finished well from close range.

With time running out, Alphas scored a well deserved second goal, after the Town defence, allowed the ball to bounce, when it really should have been headed clear.

Both sides contributed to very entertaining game, which flowed from end to end and was played in a great spirit.

CW Dynamoes Matchday Report

League leaders get stung late on. West Hill Wasps 3 Countess Wear Dynamoe's 3 The Division 2 league leaders remained the only unbeaten team in this league but they threatened to throw that away today as they were there own worst enemy for parts of this match.

CWD started well playing some good football but were struggling whenever they got near to the wasps goal. Josh jays put in some good runs up the left hand side and it was from one of these runs that the first goal came from. Josh picked the ball up around the half way line before heading towards goal, he held onto the ball and drew in 2 wasps defenders and then chose the perfect time to release Callum Pringle to score.

The rest of the half saw CWD stumble and it was the wasps who came closer to scoring on more than one occasion. The second half saw a pretty even game but the Dynamoe's were far from their best, the passing was all over the place and they seemed to panic when on the ball. However it was Callum pringle for the Dynamoe's who scored the second goal of the morning after a good run from Leon Davis.

At 2 up the Dynamoe's collapsed and soon found themselves level and having to fight to keep it at that. However once again The Dynamoes found the net, this time from Josh Jays slotting home at the far post. Dynamoe's best play seemed to come from the wings with both josh jay and Jacob Chadwick having really good games. But the wasps didn't give up and with a few mins left a shot deflected off the dynamoes captain Corey and slipped passed the wrong footed Dynamoes keeper Curtis.

The match ended 3-3.

Alphas Matchday Report

Alphington 9 - 2 Feniton

Alphington started the game very strongly and despite many early efforts on target it took them a while to break the deadlock when Corrie Gloyn turned nicely in the box to fire home. The lead was soon doubled when Richard Warwick sent over a great cross for Matthew Cram to score with a looping header.

The Alphas were now peppering the goal and it wasn't long before it was 3 when Connor Garmendia played a great through ball to send Daniel Prout away one on one with the keeper and he made no mistake. Garmendia then made it 4 before half time with a sweet finish. The 2nd half continued the same way with Alphington passing the ball around nicely. A George Richards thunderbolt hit the cross bar and Jake Moxey was on hand to score from close range, before some tricky play in the box gave Cram his second.

Feniton did pull 2 goals back, but the Alphas continued to press with Richards scoring from distance and Moxey and Prout adding their second goals of the game with good finishes.

Heavitree Comets 9 - 2 Sidmouth Warriors

Today's sunny weather was truly reflected in the sunny disposition in which every player from both sides played this game.  Even the ever suspect McKenna in the middle had a great game today, and before I actually get in to the football, I think it should be said that both managers and every parents that witnessed to day's game, can be extremely proud of their child.

The early pressure came from the Comets who forced the Warriors onto their back foot and came close to scoring in the opening minutes on several occasions.  However, it was a great strike in the 6th minute from Christian Ellis who fired from range that opened the scoring.  The keeper had no chance of saving this shot as he was totally unsighted when the ball sailed through the crowded penalty area.  The Warriors took the goal on the chin and came back with the perfect answer five minutes later when George Peacock was put through to go one on one with the Comets' keeper, Kieran Renton, and Peacock made it 1-1 with a confident and assured finish.  The Comets took nothing for granted, even though they had a victory over the Warriors last week in a cup game, and they knew today was going to be the real battle as the quality of the Sidmouth team defies logic with their current league position.

Around the 20 minute mark Ellis got his second of the game for the Comets with a great header that came from a well delivered Jeff Angila corner.  Three minutes later Jonathan Kirk made it 3-1 when the ball was sent over the top for him to run on to, he finished coolly with a shot into the top corner.  The goal for the Comets came from Louis who managed to put the ball in the net after a goalmouth scramble that all started with a cute header into the area from Jack Challice.  On the half hour mark the Warriors deservedly pulled back another goal after the number 10 sent a great ball into the area for the striker to smash at Renton who could only parry the ball out to feet of Alex Seward, who lobbed him to make the score 4-2.

The second half started with the first move of the game resulting in another goal for the  Comets, after today's man of the match, Elliott Murch, battled supremely on the right wing to get the ball through three Sidmouth players, before knocking it down the line to Jacko, who crossed into the penalty area for Kirky to finish getting his second of the game.  Five minutes later, in front of Exeter City legend Tony Kellow, and Kirky's illustrious radio presenting father, he made the score 6-2 with his hat-trick after another incisive move by the Comets.  Sidmouth continued to battle and at no point did anyone of their players' heads go down, even though it very much like the game was won by the Comets already.

With 15 minutes of the second half played Edward McKenna got his name on the score sheet with a well taken strike inside the area, which he kept low, pushing it into the corner of the net.  Murch almost and perhaps should have got his name on the score sheet, when he was confronted with an open goal only a few yards out.  He somehow only managed to make contact with his shin to send the ball wide of the upright.  Moments later, when the Comets had a corner kick, unfortunately one of the Warrior players put the ball into his own net to make it 8-2.  With little time left on the clock, the Comets added one more goal to their tally after another well worked move.  The game finished 9-2.

The scoreline in no way reflects the determined and professional attitude of the whole Sidmouth squad (management included) and if they continue to play in the fashion they did today, its only a matter of time before luck and results start going their way.

Well done everybody.

Heavitree Comets Man of the Match:  Elliott Murch

Under 11s Cup Competition - West Exe 2 - 3 Honiton Town

Honiton came from 2 goals behind to win this entertaining 2nd round cup tie and would surely have won by a more comfortable margin, had it not been for the excellent West Exe goal keeper.

The home side, started by far the better and took the lead with a long range shot.  They increased their lead, when a Honiton defender, turned the ball in to his own net.  Honiton were really under pressure and needed to dig deep to get back in the game.

A James Branson free kick reduced the lead just before half time.   The introduction of Ollie Reed allowed the visitors to take control of the midfield, as he won header after header.  This allowed the strikers to press forward, creating numerous chances, which the West Exe keeper did well to keep out.

Honiton's leading scorer, Neil Parris levelled the scores with a well taken goal.  With extra time approaching, Owen McCreadie-Taylor cleared off the line, before Todd Beanlands crossed and the unfortunate West Exe defender put the ball through his own net.

Super Saver - Exeter & District Youth League

Honiton Town U/11 4 v 1 Feniton Hornets U/11

Callum Nicholas, produced a Man of the Match performance in goal, as Honiton Town beat Feniton in this keenly contested derby match.  The home side scored all 5 goals, however, this should not distract from the fact that for long periods Feniton were the better side.  Honiton started brightly and went ahead after 8 minutes, when James Branson struck from long range, after a great corner from Ollie Reed.

The home side, doubled their advantage 10 minutes later, when Neil Parris finished off a flowing move that involved at least 4 Honiton players.  Feniton, continued to press and just when it seemed they would reduce the deficit, Callum Nicholas produced a fantastic save from point blank ran ge to see the home side lead 2-0 at half time.

Feniton, started the second half determined to get something from this game and created plenty of chances, but lacked the finishing touch.  Their consolation goal came after a Honiton defender turned the ball in to his own net, whilst trying to clear his lines.  Nicholas, produced a second super save, driving full length to push a Feniton strike past his right hand post.

This seemed to inspire the home side and further goals from Owen McCreadie-Taylor and Lewis Doe sealed their victory.   Feniton should be congratulated for their contribution, to what was a very enjoyable game, played in a good spirit.

Man of the Match - Ca llum Nicholas

Heavitree Derby sees the Comets come out on top

Heavitree Rockets 0 - 1 Heavitree Comets

At last a game of football could be played and what a great game it was.  The Rockets started the better of the two teams with some great penetrative play but they couldn't break down the Comets' defence who held their shape well.  Just before the 10 minute mark the Rockets can consider themselves unlucky not to have gone ahead after a shot from Zak Lee was stopped on the line by Jeff Angila.  This opportunity, followed by several more chances, seemed to wake the Comets up and they came on strong and it was the Comets who couldn't take advantage after a great through ball from Elliott Murch in midfield saw Jack Challice one on one with the Rockets' keeper Curtis Holwell, and Curtis came out the winner.  Again the Rockets took control of the game and for the remainder of the first half they continued to apply pressure, but just couldn't find the finish to take the lead.  The first half ended 0-0, but not before Jack Challice had another opportunity that went narrowly wide.

The second half saw the Rockets launch another wave of attacks which again saw the Comets' defence hold strong.  Zak Lee came close again with a header that slipped over the crossbar from a superbly delivered corner by Nick Middleton.  Very much against the run of play it was the Comets who eventually got the goal to take the lead from a wicked deflection in the penalty area that gave Holwell no chance.  The Rockets continued to battle and for great parts of the second half outplayed the Comets and with only moments to go were unfortunate not to get the equaliser after Middleton delivered another sweet corner, this time to the head of Max Mortimore who skimmed it over the bar.  The final score was 1-0 to the Comets and although a draw would have been a fair result, if the Rockets had managed to take their chances they could have and perhaps should have turned out to be the winners, but that's football.

Parris down's the rockets

 Heavitree Rockets 3 v 6 Honiton Town
Neil Parris, helped himself to a first half hat-trick as Honiton Town returned to league action for the first time since November.  Despite their long lay off, the visitors showed little sign of rustiness as they raced to a two goal lead inside 12 minutes.  Neil Parris opened the scoring after only 7 minutes and added his second 5 minutes later, after good work down the left by Owen McCreadie-Taylor.

Heavitree pulled a goal back, when a well struck free kick beat both the defensive wall and the Town keeper.  Honiton continued to press forward and were rewarded when Parris completed his hat-trick to give them a 3-1 lead at half time.   Heavitree started the second half by far the better, and caught Honiton napping with two well taken goals to level the scores at 3-3.  Town made a number of changes and at last began to pass the ball with some authority, which in turn created gaps in the home defence.

Lewis Doe restored Honiton's lead before strikers Todd Beanlands and Benjie Cramer completed the scoring in the final 10 minutes.  This was a competitive game, played in a great spirit and Heavitree should be congratulated for providing a first class referee, who added to the games enjoyment.   Man of the Match - William Tyers / James Branson

Central 6 v 0 Alphington

Alphington, unbeaten in the league to this point, started well against a full strength Central side and dominated for the first ten minutes of the match with some excellent passing football. Solid and occasionally fortunate defence from Central prevented any success from this early pressure and soon Central had some chances of their own.

The opening goal for Central came after Alphington failed to clear the ball and Martin Porter made some space on the edge of the box before shooting into the bottom corner of the net. Shortly after Edward Taylor scored following a penalty which was well saved by the keeper but slotted home from the rebound.

The Alphington defence struggled with the pace of the breaks by the Central forwards and the next goal came in the form of an own goal from a dangerous cross with two Central strikers waiting for the ball in the box. Again the speed of the Central front men was key for the fourth goal as just before the break Joe Chamberlain broke from halfway and expertly committed the keeper before sliding the ball into the net. Central were prepared for the early onslaught expected from Alphington at the start of the second half and again we rode our luck with the ball hitting the side netting of the Central goal a number of times.

Tom McShane did what the opposition had failed to do by scoring from a wide position with a lovely chip over the keeper. Charlie Brill completed the Central scoring with a break through the centre of the Alphington defence before finishing well. At times Central were lucky but much of that luck came from determined defence pushing the Alphington attacks wide and making them shoot from tight angles.

Defensively this was an excellent performance by all or players which despite some scares gave us our first clean sheet since September. Alphington certainly had some chances and played some lovely football.

They should have scored particularly in the closing minutes of the game when the ball rolled slowly in front of the Central goal. Overall the number of shots by each team were probably about even but most of the Alphington ones were off target from wide positions whilst the Central boys finished well with five different goal scorers (and others had chances!!!).

Dynamoe's on form and still Unbeaten

Feniton Hornets 4 - Countess Wear Dynamoe's 6
Unbeaten Dynamoe's traveled to Feniton for a 9:30 kick off due to a double booked pitch this Saturday morning. This meant it was colder than usual but this didn't stop both teams playing some very good football.

Dyanmoe's asserted themselves as early favorites to win this game with their usual fluent quick passing game tearing through the Feniton team. Several chances came and went for the dynamoe's as Feniton tried desperately to clear the ball for some breathing space. Unfortunately the Dynamoe's were unable to capitalize on the possession they had and it was actually Feniton who took the lead with one of their few chances in the early part of this game.

The Dynamoe's, slightly stunned by going 1 down carried on their usual game and was rewarded a few minuets later as Corey Jones smashed the ball home at the second attempt. From then on the game was more even with both teams having a share of the chances. Dynamoe's striker Calum Pringle gave the visitors the lead half way through the first half after turning and firing a left foot drive into the bottom corner.

Feniton didn't give up though and were level several minuets later after the Dynamoe's were caught short at the back. Half time score 2-2. The timekeeping by the home time came into question at half time as the first half had only lasted 30 minuets. It was agreed that the second half would last 40 minuets to make up the shortfall but this left the Dynamoe's a much harder task as they had to play 40 minuets uphill compared to Fenitons 30. This didn't slow down the dynamoe's play as they pushed forward looking to take the lead once more, and this is exactly what happened several minuets into the half when Josh Jays charged down the Feniton keepers goal kick and carried the ball toward goal before keeping his cool to slot the ball under the keeper into the net.

It was much the same a few minuets later when a defender this time failed to get any distance on the goal kick and it fell to Calum Pringle to go on to score his second of the morning. Feniton! were st ruggling to get a grip on the game and fell further behind to Nathan Antat who cutting in from the left lofted the ball over the keeper to make it 5-2 to the Dynamoe's. Feniton managed to gain a second wind as the dynamoe's players started to tire. A long range effort managed to go though a pack of players and roll into the corner to give Feniton hope.

Feniton now piled on the pressure thinking they may be able to save something from this game but stern and sometimes desperate defending kept the ball out of the net. And several shots that would normally result in goals were saved by the very impressive dynamoe's keeper Curtis Fewings. He pulled of some of the saves of the season so far to keep Feniton out. Every player battled on and dug deep to help maintain the lead and this wasn't helped as dynamoe's lost thier captain Corey Jones after a knock to the head.

The rest of the team rallied and proved they have all earned the right to wear the dynamoe's shirt. Feniton were beginning to pin the Dynamoe's back but a clever break from the dynamoe's found Jordan Vittles free on the left and he took his time and picked his spot to chip the ball over the keep.

Feniton managed to get one back shortly before the final whistle but at the end of the day both teams played some very good football but the result reflects how the game went. An excellent performance from all the Dynamoe's boys. Curtis Fewings (Keeper), Leon Davis, Danny Cockram, Daniel Libretto, Corey Jones(Captain), Nathan Antat, Jacob Chadwick, Josh Jays, Calum Pringle, Jordan Vittles, Brandon Williams, Connor Fewings

IMPROVING ROCKETS BEATEN BY HONITON

 Heavitree Rockets 3 Honiton 6
Both teams deserve credit from this very entertaining match played in a good spirit and very well refereed. This was Honiton's first league match since November but they showed no signs of rustiness playing some very attractive passing football that left the Rockets chasing shadows. Honiton were quicker to the ball and allowed too much space and time and deservedly went into a two goal lead after just 12 minutes.

At this point it looked like Honiton could score at will and that any chance of the Rockets registering a first win would dissapear very quickly. However the Rockets have been used to battling back this season and did exactly the same again. A good passage of play led to a free kick which Nick Middleton dispatched from distance into the top corner to make it 2-1.

Honiton continued to play good football and scored a third goal to make the halftime score 3-1. The second half provided a real turnaround as Rockets came out fired up and started to dominate the midfield area which saw a host of chances created. Firstly Jack Moxey fired in a long range second from a cleared corner and then Max Mortimore who was typically strong and brave rode a few tackles and blasted his team level.

At this stage the game was open and could have gone either way. With just 15 minutes to go it looked as though Heavitree may get something from the game. Honiton were not be outdone and showed their championship credentials by digging deep and scored three late goals to take the match 6-3 with some well worked goals  Rockets continue to improve and if they keep the same level of commitment then hopefully their first win will not be too far off

Rockets Man of the match: Nick Middleton:
Only his 3rd start of the season. Has waited in the wings for a chance and took it very well. Scored a great goal, had a hand in another and ran his socks off

BATTLING ROCKETS SHOT DOWN

Heavitree Rockets 2 West Hill 6

Despite the scoreline there were plenty of positives that the Rockets could take out of this hard fought match. The game proved to be very entertaining and in the most part played from end to end. The opening exchanges were quite even with the first 20 minutes being goal less and giving no evidence of the goal feast to follow.

West Hill started to get on top and scored a great goal with a well placed long range strike giving Curtis Holwell in the Heavitree goal no chance. This goal was scored by the excellent James Hatton who went on to score 4 times.

Heavitree continued to push forward but found the West Hill keeper Will Whales in fine form. A quickfire two goals gave West Hill a 3-0 half time lead. The second half was a different story and it was the Rockets who attacked in numbers quite often leaving big gaps in their midfield in their attempt to get back into the match. After a few goalmouth scrambles another almighty bout of pinball ensued in the West Hill goalmouth with the ball eventually being forced in rugby scrum style with Ben Dawson getting the final touch (he claims) - not a pretty training ground move but they all count.

Just as the Rockets tails were up West Hill went down the other end and scored immediately to make it 4-1. Nick Middleton hit a great shot into the top corner for Heavitree only to have it ruled out for the whistle having gone a split second earlier for a free kick in their favour!. Not to be outdone Nick then supplied a great cross for birthday boy Jack Moxey to flick in and make it 4-2. Max Mortimore was outstanding in the Rockets midfield and tackled and battled ferociously in the middle of the pitch desperate to get his side back in it. It was West Hill however who scored the killer 5th goal and went on to add a late 6th to give the scoreline a slightly flattering edge.

A great match to watch played in good spirit by both sides. Well played West Hill.

HEAVITREE MAN OF THE MATCH: Dan Bennett - for superb tackling, great running out of defence and excellent distribution throughout. Faultless

Comets - Rising Stars in the making

Alphington 2 - 0 Heavitree Comets

What a great game to watch, with both sides playing some excellent football which, at times, far surpassed the skill levels you would expect of under 11 players.  The play went from end to end throughout much of the first half with neither team able to break down the other's defence.  Alphington had several chances but the first real clear cut one for the Comets was around the 20 minute mark after a late challenge some 25 yards out from goal gave William Gregory an opportunity to shoot from the free-kick which narrowly missed the target.  This appeared to be a wake-up call for the Alphas who for the next ten minutes or so dominated the midfield and had several more attempts on goal, but again the Comets defence held strong.  The last few moments of the half went the way of the Comets, who finished the first half the strongest.

The second half continued much in the same vain as the first with both sides defending well challenging superbly in midfield and attacking with real purpose.  It was not until five minutes from time that the deadlock was broken with Alphington slipping the ball under the keeper to make it 1-0.  They doubled their score to end the game 2-0 in the dying moments of the game with a superb strike from range that would have beaten any keeper of this age group.

This was one of those games that you really didn't want to see either side lose as they had both worked so hard throughout the hour long period of play.

Well done to both sides and a special mention for the referee who had a great game, which was made easy by both sets of lads simply wanting to play football.

Man of the Match: Matt Preece

Alphington 2 - 0 Heavitree Comets

From The Alphas Camp

Both sides played out a highly entertaining game which could have gone either way.
The Alphas started the game slowly but they soon got into their passing game going, with Matthew Cram & Connor Garmendia playing well in the centre of midfield.

Jake Moxey had a couple of chances to put the Alphas in front, but they had to be alive at the back with Sam Allen & Billy Worth strong in defense and Micheal Southard saving them on a couple of occasions.

The sides went in nil nil at half time and the 2nd half was very competitive with both sides creating chances. The deadlock was finally broken when a James Probert shot crept in under the keeper and the game was made safe when Jake Moxey hit a screamer in the top Corner following a neat pull back from Daniel Prout. Corrie Gloyn, George Richards, Ryan Hackett, Richard Warwick & James Ingham all played their part in a good team performance.

CW Dynamoes 4 - 1 Central

Dynamoes were without Curtis Fewings the goal keeper today so Dan Libretto took the gloves and did really well making a couple of early stops which gave us a little fright.

We weathered the storm and bounced back with a fine free kick from Nathan Antat, who again played very well, some good passing at times produced some sleek football, this time the goal came from the influential Josh Jays who took his goal excellently. Half time came, we made a couple of changes in Jordan Vittles and James Pryce, they both gave good accounts of themselves as did Lewis Steer who played very well and also took his goal well, he worked the channels brilliantly and produced some good crosses.

Some further changes were made with Connor Fewings and Brandon Williams again both performing well for the last 20 minutes. The final goal came from Jacob Chadwick who played on the left wing and used the space he was given to full effect with some teasing crosses. Dan Cockram who is the 'steady eddie' of the team, played as well as ever using the ball well and tackling when called upon, Corey Jones or Mr Reliable, was outstanding and was my man of the match for today.

Dynamoe's unbeaten run continues.

Countess Wear Dynamoe's 4 - Central 1
The morning started freezing cold but the dynamoe's pitch was in very good condition and this helped both teams play some very good football.

Both teams shared the possession but it was central who had the better chances early on requiring Dynamoe's Keeper Daniel Libretto to save twice from close range. With a solid performance throughout the whole dynamoe's team it was only a matter of time before their hard work and quick passing play led to their first goal. It was scored by Nathan Antat from a free kick after Nathan was fouled just outside the box whilst on a run past several central players.

Central refused to let this dampen their spirits and still had an equal share of the possession. However it was the dynamoe's once again who found the back of the net, this time Lewis Steer slotting home from close range. The second half saw the dynamoe's take control of the game and it wasn't long before a third was added by Josh Jays, latching onto a cross from Nathan and hitting the ball across goal to nestle it in the far corner.

A moment of magic from one of the central forwards gave them a goal back when they won a corner, crossed the ball into the box and as it dropped into the box the central forward let the ball run between his legs and as it did flicked the ball towards the rear post with the inside of his heel, the ball was perfectly placed to roll just inside the far post.

This raised centrals game and for the next 5 or so minuets they enjoyed some possession but unfortunately it didn't last long as dynamoe's added a fourth as Jacob Chadwick steered the ball past defenders and keeper to find the back of the net. The match finished 4-1.

Sidmouth 2 - 7 Alphington

Like most teams Alphington had not played for a few weeks and they started slowly against a hard working Sidmouth side, before a George Richards corner was deflected in by a defender to give them a one nil lead.

The lead did not last long though with Sidmouth equalising with a long range effort to take the sides in level at half time.

The Alphas started the 2nd half more positively with Daniel Prout and Richard Warwick now flying down the wings. Alphington took the lead with a carbon copy of the 1st goal when a Richards corner deflected off a defender for another own goal.

The third goal came when Connor Garmendia hit a cracking shot from all of 20 yards and he soon made it three with his second of the game. Sidmouth did pull one back before further goals from Daniel Prout, Jake Moxey & Matthew Cram sealed a 7 -2 victory.

Dynamoe's seal late Draw.

 Countess Wear Dynamoe's 3 - Heavitree Comets 3.

Dynamoe's got off to a flying start with Nathan Antat scoring after on a few minuets. However whilst the comets played a good consistent game the dynamoe's kept swapping from playing good passing football to below par football. When the dynamoe's were passing the ball and playing well they were by far the better team but in the spells they dropped in performance the comets took full advantage of being the better team.

It was during one of these spell that the comets scored their equaliser, although it has to be said it was a well worked goal. with only a few minuets of the first half left a goal mouth scramble in the comets goal resulted in Calum Pringle knocking the ball in from close range giving dynamoe's the lead once more.

The second half saw both teams having chances but it was the comets who were playing the better football and a defensive error lead to the second equalizer of the day for the comets. With the comets still on top they pushed forward looking to take the lead and they did just that when the ball managed to slip under the dynamoe's keeper leaving the comets with an empty goal to tap into. It was the Dynamoe's turn to chase the game and they started to play their passing game once more giving them the advantage in the outfield play.

A quick passing move resulted in Nathan Antat playing the ball through into the path of Calum Pringle leaving him with only the keeper to beat. He didn't disappoint as he hammered the ball past the out coming keeper high into the goal.

With only seconds left on the clock this is how it ended 3-3. On the balance of play a draw was a fair result but the Dyanmoe's will feel disappointed with their performance as they have played much better in the other games in the league this year.

Heavitree Comets 3 - 3 C.W.Dynamoes

Heavitree Comets 3 - 3 C.W.Dynamoes which was a change of ground because of a clash in pitches.

The match started well enough for the Dynamoes with some very good passing from the Dynamoes and deservedly took the lead through Nathan Antat from short range, some excellent work down the right which was causing them some problems with  Jacob Chadwick really showing pace and skill.

Heavitree who seem to be our bogey side having drawn two matches, scored to level the but again taking nothing away from Heavitree, it was sloppy defending that gave the goal away. Heavitree later scored another to take the lead and deserved it, half time approached and we had to adjust a little and levelled the match 2-2 through Callum Pringle who made it 6 from 6 matches.

The tiredness came in and we started to wear down and were on the back foot and Heavitree got their goal 5 mins from time, the Dynamoes have a never say never attitude and scored again through Callum Pringle to level the match. Both Managers were releived and was a fair result.

Westhill 2 - 4 Heavitree Comets

The Comets had the better of possession in the opening twenty minutes with Jack Challice proving to be very mobile and providing plenty of crosses from the right side. But they could not convert this into clear chances, and fine goalkeeping from the Westhill keeper, especially when diving to stop Louis Phillips pile driver from going in the top corner, kept the score sheet blank. Billy Smith and Elliott Murch kept the midfield tight and always managed to put the ball back into the Westhill danger areas. The first goal did come from the Comets William Gregory who managed to squeeze a low shot into the bottom corner after jostling for possession on the edge of the box.  Westhill then stepped up a gear and started to gain control in the midfield resulting in the Comets having to make some last ditch tackles. However sloppy defending did present Westhill with the equaliser they deserved at that point of the game. The Comets seemed a little unsettled, and more indecision allowed Westhill to go two one up on the stroke of halftime.

At the restart William Gregory received the ball and proceeded to take on the whole Westhill team and was successful, but his cross into the box was inches wide and Jonathan Kirk could not prod home. Jeff Angila then picked up possession and after Gliding past the onrushing Westhill players found space on the edge of the box, with the resulting shot hitting the top corner of the net, 2-2. The Comets seemed to know that they were on top and needed to score again quickly, however the third goal was a little fortunate as a long lob into the box from Christian Ellis caused indecision and when the Westhill keeper realised he should claim, he found himself in no mans land with the ball bouncing over his head and into the net. A fourth was added by Gregory, getting his second of the day after Edward McKenna gathered a cleared ball and drove it back across the goal for Gregory to turn goalwards. More chances followed as Matthew Preece exposed the Westhill defence time & time again, but his crosses were a little to near the Westhill keeper for his team mates to convert.

Westhill did finish well and forced a fine save from Jack Wheaton in the Comets goal as he dived full stretch to his left to push a fierce shot around the post. The Comets also had to contend with a series of Westhill corners late on, but managed to keep their two goal advantage in tact. Possibly the difference between the two sides was unusually down to one player Conor Goldsmith who dominated the midfield, tackling everything that moved and distributing the ball simply and efficiently time after time.

Comets Man of the Match:  Conor Goldsmith

Heavitree Rockets 3 v 8 Central Central

Central started strongly on a tight pitch passing the ball about well and soon found success with a strike from Scott Bochenski giving him his first goal for Central. Martin Porter scored twice, once with each foot, stretching the lead and putting Central firmly in control.

Alistair Thomson scored before the break making the score 4-0 to Central at half time. Heavitree pulled one back early in the first half but Central responded straight away and despite some fight from the Rockets two second half goals from Alistair Thomson to complete his hat-trick and two for Brandon Green including an excellent free kick made this game safe at 8-3.

CW Dynamoes 1 - 0 Honiton

Dynamoe's end Honiton's 100% start to the season. The Honiton boys came to a very cold Countess Wear this morning but this didn't affect either team as the match started at a lightning pace. Both teams were playing some very good football with both defenses having to be on their game.

After about 10 minuets Dynamoe's began to take control of the game, maintaining possession and playing fast fluent skillful football (which their supporters are seeing their team provide week in week out). This spell of pressure saw the Dynamoe's hit both post's but were unable to get a clear chance at goal.

Honiton seemed relieved to hear the half time whistle and the start of the second half saw the tide change with Honiton having more of the ball. However the Dynamoe's defence stood strong and put in one of their best performances so far. They were strong, precise with their tackles and headers and lead the way for the whole team to dig deep and prevent Honiton from even getting shots on target. In fact it was a ball out from defence that found Leon just short of the half way line, his first time control gave him time to asses the situation and see Jacob making a run beyond the Honiton defence. His pass was inch perfect, over the defenders and dropping into the path of Jacob.

A couple of touches took the ball into the area and with the keeper advancing out of goal Jacob kept his cool to slot the ball into the corner. What remained now was for the Dynamoe's to keep their heads and that is exactly what they did. The last 15 mins was a true test for the dynamoe's to see if they could maintain the lead against the team at the top of the table. They made it look almost easy and in the end Honiton's only real shot on target hit the side of the post.

A very determined display from the dynamoe's and every player worked very hard to achieve this result.

CW Dynamoes - Another angle

C.W.Dynamoes v Honiton, very evenly matched sides fought out a tough game, some good football was played at times. The goal eventually came through Leon Davies long through ball for Jacob Chadwick to latch onto and put away his chance very well.

Honiton pressed forward, but some excellent defending from all the team stopped them breaking through. Players that performed well, all nine of them Curtis, corey, dan c, dan l, leon, nathan, josh, jacob, connor and lewis.

VERY WELL DONE BOYS.

Another view of a cracking game

On a bitterly cold morning, unbeaten Honiton travelled to Countess Wear to take on the Dynamoes. The opening exchanges were fiercely competitive as both sides sought the opening goal. It was clear from an early stage that the referee was taking his time keeping from the home touchline, added to which a number of inconsitent decisions led to a tense affair. Honiton did have a number of chances to open the scoring, the best of which was when three players were clean through and only a great save from the home keeper denied them a goal. At the break the score was 0-0.

The second half started even with Honiton enjoying long periods of pressure. Unfortunately a combination of great keeping and stout defending kept the score line goaless. The home side increased the pressure and a long ball out of defence was controlled well in the Dynamoes midfield, which in turn was played accurately through to the stiker who finished cooly passed the advancing keeper. Honiton increased the pressure and went close on a number of occasions but at the end of the day were unable to gain the equaliser.

This was a good game of football, played in a competitive spirit from two very good sides.

HEAVITREE ROCKETS 3 V 8 CENTRAL

Heavitree and Central played out an entertaining end to end match on a cold morning at Ladysmith School. Central started the game very strongly with good movement and passing play which combined with some sloppy Rockets defending saw the visitors take the initiative from the first whistle.

Despite pleas to keep the game tight for the first 15 minutes Heavitree were not at the races and Central quickly found themselves 3 goals up with Brandon Green standing out in Central's midfield. As the half wore on Heavitree started to come more into the game with Nick Middleton rattling the crossbar and the introduction of Max Mortimore stemming the flow of attacks from Central's midfield. It was Central who scored next though and went into the break 4-0 up.

The second half was much more even with Heavitree putting the Central goal under increasing pressure. Max Mortimore threw the Rockets a lifeline with a great finish and other chances went begging. Daniel Bennett, Tom Scrivens and Jack Moxey were battling better at the back but Central soon scored again. James Welch came in to replace Curtis Holwell in goal who had played on despite feeling unwell but was clearly unable to continue. James pulled off some great saves as the game opened up. Chances were plenty as both teams threw players forward with Ben Dawson and Max Mortimore(again) reducing the deficit to 6-3 and the Rockets pouring forward in search of more goals. This gave the visitors chances to break which they did effectively to add two late goals including a skilful backheel for the final goal by the outstanding Brandon Green.

Man of the match for Heavitree

Max Mortimore: 2 great strikes and tireless running and energy.

Pass Masters!

Honiton Town U/11's 7 v 1 Sidmouth Warriors U/11's

This was a game that the home side dominated from start to finish and probably should have scored more than their tally of seven.  Honiton started brightly, with Man of the Match Kyle Blackmore and Lewis Doe passing the ball with great pace and precision and this proved particularly effective in the final third.  Sidmouth, in turn packed the defence and it was not until the 18th minute that Neil Parris opened the scoring for the home side.

Callum Nicholas was again in good form in the Town goal and made a great full length stop at the foot of the post to deny Sidmouth.  Further goals from Owen McCreadie-Taylor, Todd Beanlands and Parris saw Honiton lead by 4 goals at the break.   A number of changes, saw Honiton welcome back Benjie Cramer for the second half and he immediately set about making up for missing the last 2 matches.

Beanlands added his second and Towns fifth, before Cramer weighed in with a brace either side of Sidmouth's consolation goal, the second of which was neat flick after good work down the Honiton right.  This was an impressive performance by the home side, who entertain Sidmouth Raiders in two weeks time in the 1st Round of the U/11 cup.

Dynamoe's back to winning ways

Countess Wear Dynamoe's 5 West Hill Wasp's 3 It was a bitterly cold morning but this didn't stop both teams playing some very good football.

Dynamoe's were keen to put last weeks draw behind them and they did this the best way possible, by taking the lead. Nathan's through ball found Callum unmarked in the box and his precise shoot found its way past the keeper into the bottom corner. The wasp's were not about to be over run and fought back with some good play.

it wasn't long before they got their chance and took it. This just made the dynamoe's even more determined to get back in front, heavy pressure paid off when Nathan's long range effort flew in without the keeper even getting close. A second of the morning for Callum saw the home team go in at half time 3-1.

The second half saw long periods of domination by the dynamoe's but it took around 10 minuets before they added the forth, another long range effort by Nathan was heading in at the far post where Lewis popped up to make sure it went in. With the dynamoe's camped in the wasp's half it was only a matter of time before the dynamoe's added another. This time Brandon finding himself with just the keeper to beat, he slipped the ball past the keeper to make it 5-1.

A rare attack from the wasps with only minutes to go saw the wasp's forward chip the ball over the dynamoe's keeper. A free kick on the edge of the box was also taken well which resulted in the match ending 5-3. A late flurry from the wasp's but the dynamoe's were the deserved winners.

Alphas 3 - 1 Heavitree Rockets

Alphington put in a steady performance against a hard working Heavitree side, which was played in the freezing cold.

The Alphas started strongly, but were unable to find a way through before a George Richards corner was turned into his own goal by a Heavitree defender to give them the lead. They continued to press and doubled the lead before half time when Richards swung over an identical corner, which was dummied by Connor Garmendia before Matthew Cram slotted home at the near post.

With Sam Allen and Billy Worth strong in defence, the Alphas were able to keep pushing forward in the 2nd half with Daniel Prout and Jake Moxey connecting well on the right wing. The 3rd goal came mid way through the half when Cram got his second after turning neatly in the box to slot home.

Heavitree pulled a goal back late on but Alphington ran out 3-1 winners.

Spirited Fightback

 Central 2 v 6 Honiton Town
Honiton Town needed to battle hard to overcome a dogged Central side.  Often playing with 8 men behind the ball, Central sought to catch the the visitors off guard by counter attacking and it was a combination of these tactics and poor Honiton defending which saw them take a 2 nil lead inside 10 minutes.

The introduction of Ollie Reed to the heart of Honiton's defence added stability and slowly Town began to claw their way back.  Chance after chance fell to Todd Beanlands and Neil Parris, but the old saying:  barn door and banjo comes to mind.  Honiton's breakthrough came on 29 minutes, after Neil Parris got the slighest of touches to a smart shot by the tireless Kyle Blackmore.

Just before half time Todd Beanlands smashed the ball past the Central keeper to level the scores at the interval.   Honiton introduced Daniel Hole at half time and his pace was more than a match for the Central forward line and with William Tyers playing his finest game in a Town shirt, this in turn allowed the midfield trio of Doe, Blackmore and the competitive Ben Facey to dominate the game.

Beanlands, added a third goal for the visitors, before joint Man of the Match, Lewis Doe finished smartly from the edge of the penalty area to give Honiton breathing space.  Central, had one or two chances to cut the deficit, but found Callum Nicholas in the Town goal too good.  Parris added his second from the penalty spot, before Jerome Blackburn opened his Honiton account, with what proved to be the last kick of the game.

This was a battling performance by Honiton, one in which all of the players should be praised for the way they stuck to their task.   Joint Man of the Match:  William Tyers / Lewis Doe.

Another view from the Dynamoes

The dynamoes did not play particularily well today on what was a difficult pitch, both teams struggled to play the passing game and at times very scrappy.

The rockets went ahead 1-0 before half time from some lacklustre defending and this I felt gave us the urgent kick up the backside we so desperately required. Leon Davies notched for his first of the season having reshuffled his possition into defence, Nathan Antat's 25 yard shot also found the top corner of which the keeper could do nothing, but did have an excellent match.

The boy's found their stride, and pushed further ahead leaving areas at the back exposed and this led to a free kick just outside the box,the rockeets took their chance very well to equalise and on reflection however dissapointed, this was a fair result. Players that worked very hard throughout were Callum Pringle, Corey Jones Josh Turner, Josh Jays, Nathan Antat.

Alphington Matchday Report

Alphington Athletic put in a fantastic team performance playing away against Feniton. The Alphas started the game very well with Connor Garmendia pulling the strings in midfield and Billy Worth in outstanding form at the back.

They opened the scoring after Matthew Cram fed James Probert who beat the keeper with a powerful shot. The lead was soon double when George Richards hit a sweet left foot free kick from distance. Probert soon made it 3 before Corrie Gloyn scored his first ever goal for the club to give the Alphas a 4-0 half time lead.

Alphington started the 2nd half strongly with Richard Warwick very impressive on the right wing and it was soon 5 when Gloyn scored his 2nd of the game. The alphas continued to press and following some good work by James Ingham, Daniel Prout went through one on one with the keeper and coolly finished.

Probert completed the scoring and his hatrick late on to give Alphington a 7-0 victory. Sam Allan, Jake Moxey, Ryan Hackett and Michael Southard all put in good performances.

ROCKETS BATTLE TO FIRST POINT

Heavitree Rockets gained a deserved point in this hard fought battle against the CW Dynamoes. Both teams played their part in a very enjoyable fairly played physical encounter which saw both teams pull back a deficit.

The Rockets started the game the stronger with Max Mortimore,Ben Dawson and Sam Vittles inspired in midfield winning a lot of tackles and getting through a lot of work. Chnaces were at a premium but a fine turn and cross from Jack Williams was turned in by the predatory Zak Lee for his third goal in 2 games.

The Dynamoes started the second half much the stronger and put the Rockets goal under growing pressure. Curtis Holwell was in fine form making some great stops and good clearances to keep them out with Jack Moxey, Tom"Bulldozer" Scrivens and Dan Bennett getting some great last ditch blocks and tackles in. The pressure told however with a deserved equaliser after the Rockets failed to clear their lines. A superb long range strike from Countess Wear soon turned the game on it's head.

The Rockets weren't finished however and a superb free kick from the excellent Jack Williams restored parity as the Rockets finished the game strongly.

Comets buzzing teamwork stings Hornets

Heavitree Comets 4 - 0 Feniton Hornets

The opening 20 minutes was an even affair, with the Comets relying on speed & their will to win every tackle all over the pitch.  As the Comets gradually overcame the physical size & presence of the Feniton team they forced a sucession of corners, it was from one of these corners that the all important opening goal was scored.

Jonathan Kirk sent the ball across only for Fenition to clear, however the ball fell to Captain for the day, Edward McKenna, who took his time and placed a diagonal ball back across the goal to find corner taker Kirk had slipped in unmarked, he made no mistake hitting his shot high into the net 1-0, and that was how the first half ended.

Both teams knew how important the second goal was going to be and how it could change the game. The Comets seemed a bit more vibrant in attack and only good defending from Feniton kept the score at a single goal. But great teamwork down both wings was followed by three more goals for the Comets with Ajay Dev & Matthew Preece firing in either side of Kirk getting his second.

There were several good individual performances contributing to a great team effort, as many players including Jack Challice, Elliot Murch, Conor Goldsmith & William Gregory either played out of position or ran tirelessly throughout the match. It was not as clear cut as the score may suggest as the Comets did have Keepers Kieran Renton & Jack Wheaton to thank for making excellent low saves from several Feniton attacks.

But it was Billy Smith who took the Man of the Match award as he quietly went about his work policing the midfield, stopping many Feniton attacks and using possession well with short easy passes setting his team mates back on the attack.

Comets Man of the Match:  Billy Smith

West Hill Wasps 0 - 3 Alphas

It has been nearly a month since the Alphas last game but that did not show as they started brightly against Westhill, with Jake Moxey and Daniel Prout linking well in attack.

Despite playing some good football they were unable to trouble the opponent's goal and as the half wore on Westhill grew stronger, but Sam Allen was outstanding in defence to keep them at bay with the teams ending the half level at 0-0.

The 2nd half was a real tight contest and it looked like one goal would settle it and Westhill nearly took the lead before a great goal line clearance by Ryan Hackett. The deadlock was finally broken when a Connor Garmendia pass sent George Richards clear on goal and he calmly slotted the ball under the keeper to give the Alphas the lead.

The lead was double shortly after when Prout laid the ball off superbly for Matthew Cram to fire in a great long range effort. The scoring was completed when Richards put Prout through one on one with the keeper and he made no mistake to give Alphington a 3-0 victory.

Credit must go to Westhill for their part in an entertaining game.

Central v West Hill Wasps

The game started evenly with West Hill playing well and controlling the first ten minutes. The next ten minutes however decided the game with Central scoring three times. Brandon Green scored twice and Alistair Thomson netted with a powerful shot from a tight angle.

West Hill fought back and scored from a well taken free kick on the edge of the box just before the break. Central remained strong in the second half with Brandon Green completing his hat trick and Tom McShane scoring twice either side of a second for the Wasps.

At 6-2 there were some late substitutions which left gaps in the Central defence. Good finishing from the Wasps saw them score twice in the last five minutes to make the final score 6-4.

Honiton Sting Hornets

Feniton Hornets 4 v 7 Honiton Town

Honiton made the short trip to Feniton on Saturday, to face local rivals the Hornets.  With many of the players attending the same schools,  and Honiton fielding ex Feniton player Ben Facey, this was always going to be a competitive affair.

Honiton, completely dominated the early proceedings, racing to a 4 nil lead inside 10 minutes, courtesy of a brace from Todd Beanlands and further contributions from Neil Parris and Kyle Blackmore.    Encouraged by their passionate supporters, the home side fought back with 2 goals of their own, before Beanlands completed his hat trick and Feniton added a third, which saw Honiton lead 5 - 3 at the interval.

Feniton, started the second half in determined mood and enjoyed long periods of possession, which unfortunately they were unable to convert in to goals.  Kyle Blackmore added to his tally from the penalty spot, after a Feniton defender handled the ball and it was under similar circumstances that Feniton scored their forth goal.

With the clock running down, there was just enough time for Todd Beanlands to cap a fine Man of the Match display, when he reacted quickest to turn the ball in from a corner.   Overall it was a fine battling performance from all the Honiton players against a much improved and determined Feniton side.

Countess Wear Dynamoe's 11 - Sidmouth Warriors 1

One of the best Saturday mornings so far saw some of the best football that the dynamoe's have played this year.

It didn't take long for the dynamoe's to gain the upper hand and as in their opening game dominated the play with fast flowing football of the highest level.Their tackling was sharp and passing precise with all players looking comfortable on the ball.

The opening goal was scored by Josh Jays and this leaded to large spells of dominance from the home team. Daniel Libretto scored the second moments later with a low drive into the bottom corner. Sidmouth's chances were few and far between in fact the dynamoe's only had a couple of saves to make in the first half. it was a different story at the other end with dynamoe's coming close on many occasions.

A third and forth were added before half time, another by Josh Jays and the forth by Callum Pringle. The second half started as the first left off and a free kick from Nathan Antat found its way over all the players to drop into the far corner to make it five. For the next 5-10 minuets Sidmouth started to have more of the play and played some good football, the dynamoe's defense were caught napping and sidmouth found themselves with a man spare in the box, the ball found its way to him for an easy tap in. It didn't take long for the play to switch back to the dynamoe's and in the last 6 minuets they over ran the Sidmouth Warriors to knock in a further 6 goals.

These were scored by Jacob Chadwick (twice), Lewis Steer, Connor Fewings (twice) and Corey Jones. The score line shows how well the Dynamoe's played but the defenders are worth a mention too because of their rock solid performance at the back, these were Daniel Cockram, Josh Turner, Brandon Williams and Leon Davis (who played exceptional today). And not forgetting Curtis Fewings in goal who although didn't have much to do was in top form when called upon.

Hard Fought Victory

Honiton Town U/11's 3 v 0 Heavitree Comets

Honiton continued their winning start to the season with a hard fought victory over Heavitree Comets at St Rita's on Saturday.  Heavitree, started by far the stronger and completely dominated the early exchanges, never allowing the home side to settle and play their preferred passing game.  the visitors created numerous chances and only a combination of determined defending and good fortune prevented them from taking a deserved lead at the interval.

A request for greater commitment and a couple of positional changes saw Honiton start the second half with greater urgency and purpose.  Playing down the slight slope, the home side began to control the midfield and this in turn allowed the strikers more space.  Neil Parris opened the scoring,  tapping in from short range following an excellent passing move.  The game flowed from end to end, before Todd Beanlands turned and shot passed the Heavitree keeper to double the home sides advantage.  With the game now safe and time running out, the hard working Benjie Cramer was on hand to add Towns third.

With both Kyle Blackmore and James Branson in outstanding form, they jointly shared the Man of the Match award.

Hornets Earn First Three Points in Away Victory

Heavitree Rockets 1 Feniton Hornets 5

A misty morning greeted the two teams for their second league game of the season.  The game started with both sides playing solid football, not a challenge being shirked and neither sides looking to concede an early goal.  This set the tone for a dour first half  in which, territorially honours were about even.  Midway through the half Feniton's Josh Tree had a good shot saved brilliantly saved by Curtis Holwill in the Heavitree goal  diving full length to this left- definitely one for the cameras there !  Shortly afterwards the deadlock was broken.  Receiving an excellent through pass Daniel Bennett hit a firm shot past the Feniton keeper to put Heavitree one up.  By half time there had been no further score and Heavitree went in 1-0 to the good.

A tactical switch by Feniton saw Tom Harrison move up front swapping places with  Josh Tree who moved back to central midfield.  The move paid almost immediate dividends as Tree put Josh Cann through to equalise for the Hornets.  Feniton then started to play some good football and it was only a matter of time before the second goal as George Southall-Brown fired a first time shot from the edge of the box through the unfortunate keeper's legs.  Heavitree never stopped playing and had a good spell of possession midway through the second half but despite some good football were unable to add to their first half tally.  Unselfish play by Harrison when one on one with the goalie allowed Southall-Brown to set up Joe Turl for Feniton's third.  Feniton's fourth goal was scored with a fine shot from Harrison who also netted Feniton's fifth and his second, despite Southall-Brown trying to pinch it on the line.

The game was played in good spirit by both sides and a special mention must go to Curtis Holwill in the Heavitree goal who had a fine game.  The match ended in a 5-1 victory to Feniton who picked up their first points of the season.

Alphas hold out for 6 - 2 win

Alphington got their new season off to a good start with a comfortable win against Central. Both teams were under strength but the Alphas started very strongly with the Central goal living a charmed life in the first 10 minutes. Sam Webber, Sam Allan and Connor Garmendia all hitting the wood work on more than one occasion.

The deadlock was finally broken when Sam Webber turned in a fine cross from Elliott Hughes. Webber soon got his and the teams second when he produced a cool finish to make it 2 -0. The Alphas continued to pile on the pressure with Richard Warwick going close before Webber completed his hat trick after good work from Allen and Garmendia. Matthew Cram then netted to give the Alphas a 4-0 half time lead.

Alphington started the second half well, but as neither team had any subs the boys were now getting tired. Billy Worth and  James Ingham had to be strong at the back as Central were now hitting them on the break and managed to score 2 good goals to bring it back to 4-2.

Matthew Cram then extended the lead after dribbling his way around a few Central defenders following a good pass from George Richards and Cram completed his hat trick with the last kick of the game after racing clear from the half way line.

All credit must go to the Central goalkeeper who was outstanding on the day.

Countess Wear Dynamoes (CWD) 4 - Feniton Hornets 3

The sun was shining for the first weekend of the under 11's (division 2) 9 a side season. CWD were by far the more inventive and active team in the opening 10 minutes keeping Feniton pinned in their own half with only the odd long kick entering the CDW half.

The level of play from the Dynamoes was very impressive with movement and passing of the highest level. Dynamoes created several chances during this spell but were unable to find the back of the net. One of the very few Feniton attacks lead to a mistake at the back for CWD and the resulting chance was taken with a clever chip of the keeper. Dyanmoes pushed forward once more and it wasn't long before they were level after a great through ball by Leon Davis left Nathan Antat with only the keeper to beat. With such a situation there was only ever going to be 1 outcome, Goal.

Another mistake in the Dynamoes defence gifted Feniton their second goal and once again the lead. The remainder of the first half and the beginning of the second was fairly even with both teams missing chances. A good through ball and a lot of running saw Lewis Steer slip the ball past the keeper to bring Dynamoes level once more. From then on Dynamoes took charge of this game and soon found themselves 4-2 in front with 2 more goals from Nathan Antat (the last and his third for a hat trick was score from the tightest of angles).

Feniton got a late consolation goal but Dynamoes were strong enough to hold them out for the remainder of the game. The score line shows quite a close game but really Dynamoes were far the better team. Final score 4-3 to Dynamoes

Honiton too strong for the Rockets in the end game

The match got off to an even start, with both sides having opportunities which they could not convert. The slight slope seemed to help the Rockets as they attacked down both left & right with Ben Howkins & Jack Williams constantly taking on the Honiton defence. Good solid tackling from James Welch, Max Mortimore & Ben Dawson, backed up by the defensive trio of Dan Bennett, Tyler Osborne and captain Tom (The Bulldozer) Scrivens meant that Honiton were restricted to only long range efforts on Curtis Holwell's goal.

The Rockets took the lead midway through the first half when Jack Williams turned and shot, his effort came off a defenders leg to neatly nestle in the bottom corner of the net, 0-1. Ten minutes later a dangerous run down the Rockets left side of defence by a Honiton attacker saw the player with time & space to line something up, and as the Rockets Keeper anticipated a cross, the ball somehow when straight in at the near post, surprising the spectators and even the Honiton player himself at how much space there was.

Before half time Honiton took the lead and at the interval the score remained at 2-1. Playing up the slope, the Rockets were always going to up against the counter attack. However they got the rewards their effort & commitment deserved as Ben Howkins found himself latching onto a mistake in the centre of the Honiton defence, it was 50/50 between him and the goal keeper, but a handling mistake by the keeper and Howkins persistence meant he was able to take advantage and slot home into an empty net, 2-2.

Honiton started to use the slope and the ball, better later in the game, and with the Rockets making changes to blood new players into league football, on came Sam Vittles, Joe Robinson & Jack Conway, however fresh legs could not stem the attacks from Honiton and spaces started to appear in the centre of midfield. A shot from the edge of the area should have been caught by the keeper, but he became directed by the amount of on rushing players and could only watch as the ball passed through his arms and tamely into the inside of the net, 3-2. Good work down the left by Nick Middleton & Jack Moxeyand hold up play by Zac Lee, saw them playing attractive passing football but tiredness and the slope meant that they did not threaten the Honiton goal as much as they should have.

When they did come forward in enough numbers it petered out on the edge of the box allowing Honiton to spring forward out numbering the Rockets defence, however they had not reckoned with getting past Tom Scrivens in the centre of defence, and time and time again he and his defence snuffed out the Honiton advances.

When a Honiton player did outpace the Rockets defence on the left side, Tyler Osborne, determined to the end slid in to challenge but was deemed to be inside the area. The resulting penalty was struck well, but too well as it screamed upwards and safely over the bar. Still 3-2 and the Rockets were still in the match, but were relying on keeper Curtis Holwell to deal well with the long range efforts from Honiton. However late on, a goal mouth scramble and the inability of the Rockets to clear their lines saw a scrappy goal conceded to end the match 4-2 to the home team, Honiton.

There was much credit to be taken by all involved, players, parents & officials, in this early season encounter, where the glorious sunshine & excellent playing surface made for an enjoyable occaision.

HYFC COMETS PLAYER OF THE MATCH:  MAX MORTIMORE, TIRELESS RUNNING &  BATTLING SPIRIT THROUGHOUT.

Honiton 4 - 2 Heavitree Rockets

Honiton Town entertained Heavitree Rockets in their opening Exeter & District Youth League fixture on Saturday, a game played in glorious sunshine.

Traditionally, slow starters, town went behind after a Heavitree players shot was deflected past goal keeper Callum Nicholas. Making use of the bigger pitch, the home side started to pass the ball effectively and were rewarded when Neil Parris fired home. In an open contest both sides had opportunities to take the lead, before Lewis Doe increased the home sides advantage with a well struck shot to see town lead at the interval.

Honiton made a number of changes at half time as they sought to press home their advantage, however it was the Rockets who equalised after a mix up by the otherwise excellent pairing of James Branson and man of the match, Owen McCreadie-Taylor. With both sides seeking the winner the game opened up and this played in to Honiton's hands.

Kyle Blackmore won a penalty after a great run, which unfortunately was struck wide. Not be deterred the home side kept pressing forward and Ollie Reed made amends for his earlier penalty miss to increase the home sides lead. In the dying minutes Neil Parris added his second after good work on the left.

Overall it was an impressive performance by the home team, one in which all players coped well with the increased pitch size and playing time.

Dynamoes looking Sparky

The Dynamoes started the brighter of the two teams using the extra training sessions they have had to pass the ball a bit sharper and using the pitch to better use.

However, the Feniton side took advantage of the error in defence to take the lead 1-0. The Dynamoes did not sit back and before long brought the game level at 1-1 through Nathan Antat, within minutes of us leveling the match, Feniton again took the lead to make it 2-1.

After half time we reshuffled the team and came out with fresh legs, made the game level yet again, soon it three and then four, Nathan Antat getting his hatrick, and Lewis Steer adding a fourth, Feniton did get another to make it a nail bitter at the end.
