In a game switched to Alphington due to Crediton's pitch being unfit, Crediton Saints started this game very well and deservedly took the lead after 20 minutes. This goal seemed to wake up the Alphas and they got their passing game going. The Alphas started to create some good chances and soon equalised through Frankie Sheppard.
More chances went begging before two quick Frankie Sheppard goals just before half time gave the Alphas a 3-1 have time lead. The second half was mainly dominated by the Alphas and further goals from Sheppard, Joseph Stratton, Jack Hirst and Conor Saunders gave the Alphas a good hard-fought 7-1 victory but give Crediton credit as their boys never gave up and gave a good account of themselves. Crediton also had their keeper to thank for a great game and penalty save from Harry Warren. Alphington Man of the Match: Harry Warren
Spears got off to the worst possible start when sloppy defending allowed AC to take the lead inside a couple of minutes.AC bossed the early part of the game and could have been further ahead.Eventually Spears creeped back into the game with wide players Connor Densham and Simon Priddle seeing more of the ball.
Spears equalized when Tommy Lyon put Lewis Matthews through to finish nicely.AC responded and took the lead after more generous defending to go in 2-1 half time. A lacklustre second half performance saw AC score again and thoroughly deserve there win.
Spears rarely threatened the AC goal and were generally off the pace. Densham always looked the most likely to create something for spears whilst Charlie Fairchild battled well in defence
AC Heavitree kicked off and put Spears under pressure from the off, closing down well and pushing Spears back into their half. That early pressure led to AC picking up a short goal kick and Morgan Maule shooting past the keeper into the top corner for AC to take an early lead 5 minutes in. Spears equalised midway through the first half when a Spears' midfielder ran through a couple of halfhearted challenges and fired past Gabriel Campbell. At 1-1 the game was evenly poised, but AC kept to their game, the midfield not letting Spears settle into their game, and AC forwards and wingers Haytham Hanna, James Shillingford and Reece Saunders chasing down the Spears defence. Great work and a neat pass from Shillingford setting up Hanna, who finished well to restore AC's lead .Jack Kennedy had a free kick just before half time, but was unlucky to see the ball whistle marginally wide of the goal , HT2-1
Jack Smith and Jed Wright continued their hard work in midfield through out the second half. Jasper Freestone cleared well a couple of times, and dealt with a couple of high balls with good catches. But wasn't called on to make any saves as the AC defence protected him well, Jack Hector, Matt Burchell, Morgan Maule and Gabe Campbell each making good tackles and clearances.James Shillingford and Reece Saunders linking up well on the right to test the Spears left back and force a corner. Jed Wright sent the ball in from the corner , which bounced just outside the six yard area, and was met on the half volley by Jack Kennedy to hit home AC's third. At 3-1 Spears had to go at Heavitree, but the AC midfield now assisted the defence to see off any threats to their lead and AC ran out deserved Winners at the final whistle.
AC MOTM JED WRIGHT
On a very windy morning at Exmouth, the Alphas started this game very strongly and got at Exmouth from the off, and took the lead from a fine finish from Frankie Sheppard. Alphington could have increased the lead but the Exmouth keeper was equal to everything thrown at him although could not prevent Jack Cutting scoring from a corner to take into half time a 2-0 lead. Then straight from the kick off, Joseph Stratton cooly finished to put the Alphas in a commanding position.
Credit to Exmouth as they never gave up and from a stray pass they pulled a goal back to make it 3-1. The Alphas continued to press and 2 further well taken goals by Will Burwood eased the Alphas passage to the next round of the cup.
Alphington Man of the Match - Will Burwood
THE THREE JACKS SPOT-ON.
A blustery morning saw 3rd v 4th in the league meet in closely fought tie. The wind made things difficult for both teams to play any pretty football, and the first half was just shaded by AC with the wind behind them. Jack Kennedy put AC ahead with a superb free kick, curled over the wall into the top corner. AC pressed forward looking for a second but Stoke Hill defended well and looked dangerous countering. HT 1-0.
The second half saw Celtic have the better of the play, this time the wind in their favour. And they were on equal terms after a throw in lead to a goal mouth scramble and the ball out of the muddle into the goal. At 1-1 Celtic put more pressure on AC who defended with determination. Celtic hit the crossbar. Jack Smith closing down the Celtic defence was unlucky not to latch on to a loose ball after a clearance spun behind the Celtic keeper, and Smith narrowly fired wide across the goal in the latter stages of normal time. FT 1-1
And so Extra time continued in the same vain, both sides battling well, neither team wishing to lose.No further goals in Extra time so to a penalty shoot out. Stoke Hill fired in their first penalty but only just beat Gabriel Campbell who got hands to it. Jack Kennedy sent the Celtic keeper the wrong way to coolly slot in AC first. Celtic hit the post with their second. Jack Smith smashed in his for AC, pressure on Stoke Hill now and Gabriel Campbell saved their third. Captain Jack Hector stepped up for AC and fired in past the Celtic keeper who just failed to save it. Motm Gabriel Campbell saved Celtic's fourth penalty to earn AC a hard fought place in the quarter finals.
AC MOTM GABRIEL CAMPBELL ( just beating Kane Boston, James Shillingford and Morgan Maule who had great matches and stuck to their tasks brilliantly)
Pinhoe came through there 2nd round cup match against an improving Westexe side. Lewis Matthews opened the scoring from a Connor densham corner. Tommy Lyon then finished well after good work by Simon priddle. Bayley Radford and a Densham double completed the first half scoring. Spears made plenty of changes in the second half which saw a more even game. Matthews scored his second to go with singles from Nathan smeath and Jonny Farnsworth. Westexe replied with two goals which there efforts deserved. Man of the match was Cody Cox
