United built on their battling display against league leaders Brixington Blues last week with a well deserved first win of the season against Pinhoe Warriers. It was Pinhoe who started the brighter of the two teams however and United keeper Alex Trevena was forced into a good early save diving low to his right.

United gradually came back into the game with man of the match Jason Mann a constant threat down the right wing. His lightning pace and dangerous crosses enabled United to put constant pressure on the Pinhoe goal. United took the lead when a Keenan Paver corner was turned into the net from close range by Lewis Miller, scoring his first goal of the season.

United had several opportunities to extend their lead with chances falling to Joe Walker and Bradley but their efforts were off target. Pinhoe also posed a threat in attack and when Keeper Trevena was beaten, the excellent Luke Bland cleared off the line to maintain United's lead.

In central midfield Sam Skinner and George Mears battled, tackled and chased down every loose ball to ensure United went into the half time break with their lead in tact. Pinhoe came out all guns blazing in the second half but Unitedâ€^TMs back line all had excellent games. Keeper Trevena has given the defence great confidence since his arrival. Full-backs Jamie Waller and Keenan Paver both played well, closing down the Pinhoe wide players and denying them space. In the middle of defence Luke Bland chased down every through ball and the dependable Josh Phillips was timing all his tackles to perfection.

Ethan Stoyle's also slotted seamlessly into the full back position when brought on to replace Paver. Pinhoe's pressure however brought a deserved equaliser with 20 minutes to go when a shot from inside the six yard box found its way into the corner of the net. But United were in determined mood and kept their heads up despite this set back. Joe Walker was put through on goal but was fouled as he bore down on goal.

The Pinhoe keeper then made a good save from the resulting free kick, hit from distance by Bland. Bailey Gray then held the ball up well and his flick on to Mann almost put the wide man through on goal again. With 6 minutes to go United regained the lead. A United corner was partially cleared by Pinhoe, but the ball fell to Mann on the edge of the box and his half volley on the turn sailed into the roof of the net .

Pinhoe immediately responded by putting pressure on the United goal in search of an equaliser, but United kept their shape and composure to see out the remainder of the match and record a well deserved victory against good opposition.

The Comets got off to a flyer scoring within minutes of the match starting and were soon lucky to be two nil up due to an unfortunate mix up in the Dynamoes defence. This only served to rally the Dynamoes and for the next 20 minutes the match flowed from end to end with the Dynamoes getting on the score sheet to make it two one. However before half time the Comets restored their two goal advantage.

The second half was a different affair, CW Dynamoes did have beak away chances but the industrious nature of the Comets midfield ensured the ball was constantly put back into the Dynamoes danger area. A particular mention must go to the (as ever) hard working Conor Goldsmith and Aaron Dare who took the match and stamped his mark upon it, eventually scoring the goal of the game with a stunning left foot drive high into the far corner of the goal from outside the box and which no keeper at this age would have stood a chance with.

The other goals were shared out with Jonathan Kirk getting two, Charlie Jordan & Fergus Moore* getting one a piece. Another mention must go to William Gregory who gave his best performance of the season as he tackled and ran his heart out for the whole game. It was these efforts and attitude that unsettled the CW Dynamoes and got the Comets off to a great start. His efforts were rewarded because as well as creating for others he managed to bag himself a hatrick, he may even be claiming four*!
