Heavitree began a busy weekend of football against a spirited Hemyock team who battled hard throughout. These two teams played a really close fought match earlier in the season that the Rockets edged 4-3. Hemyock will have felt hard done by with the result that day but justice was served as Hemyock survived some scares to earn a hard fought point. The first half was fairly even with clear chances at a premium. Calum MacMartin hit the post for Heavitree after 15 minutes and the Hemyock keeper made some great saves - bearing in mind he was only a stand in keeper I fear for the normal goalie regaining his place for his deputies inspired keeping and safe handling kept Hemyock in the match during the second half.

Hemyock had their moments with their strong midfield making some telling runs but both teams defences were definitely on top. The second half was again fairly even but Heavitree began to gain a stranglehold on the game as it wore on. A moment of controversy seemed the turning point as Jack Williams ran onto a through ball and poked the ball past the Hemyock goalie. Queue celebrations for the home side as with just 15 minutes left it looked like one goal may settle it only for a flag to go up for offside. This seemed to galvanise the home team who laid siege to the Hemyock goal for the last quarter of an hour but it was just going to be one of those days. A mixture of good goalkeeping and some wayward finishing meant that the scoreline remained goaless for Heavitree's third draw and second goaless draw of the season. Hemyock showed great spirit throughout with their performance showing that their position in the table is surely false.

Man of the match for Heavitree went to CALUM MACMARTIN who has played consistently well for a number of weeks and tackled and passed superbly.

Deja vu' as Heavitree suffered an identical scoreline to their opponents as the reverse fixture earlier in the season also finished 5-2. Cullompton showed that they are strong title contenders with a solid performance despite having some players missing. The Rockets also missing 3 regulars battled well but couldn't cope with the speed and trickery of the games outstanding player - Cullompton's Frank Rosenwald.

Rockets began well with Ben Howkins having the ball in the net early on with an offside flag ruling the goal out. Cullompton then hit Heavitree with a quick double - the 1st a tap in after a good team move and the second a well taken strike after the ball came back from a poor clearance. Having already been denied a penalty after a good shout Cullompton were awarded a penalty at the second time of asking after an unlucky handball. The ball was dispatched to make the scoreline 3-0. Jack Williams nearly reduced the arrears but stopped short when one on one with the keeper thinking he had been given offside when he hadn't and the unfortunate Howkins saw his shot agonisingly hit the post for Heavitree.

The second half was more even. Deji Akinpelu had a fine game for Heavitree in midfield with his strength winning the ball for his team on numerous occasions. It was his flicked header that looped over an under pressure keeper and dropped just over the line to make it 3-1. Howkins who switched to full back had a great game as did Calum MacMartin who filled in at right back but it was Tom Scrivens who gave a captains performance with some great last ditch tackles to keep Heavitree in the match. He slid in with well timed challenges on numerous occasions to keep Cullompton's rampaging forward line out. Frank Rosenwalds quick feet, speed and ability were a highlight as twice his mazy runs ended in great finishes to complete a hat trick and make the score 5-1. Jack Williams who (as usual) gave 100% and ran his socks off was rewarded with a late consolation for Heavitree

Cullompton started very slowly, but soon started to pass the ball around making it difficult for the 9 man West Hill team. The pressure took its toll and Cullompton soon scored. But all praise to West Hill they kept battling like you would not believe and played the better football. The second half West Hill held strong for the first 15 minutes but succumbed to the relentless pressure of only having 9 men, but still they scored 2 more good goals. Final score was 11-3, but all praise must go to West Hill for their dogged determination and great team spirit, never once giving up or dropping their heads. WELL DONE!
