Heavitree Rockets 2 - Budleigh 3
The game started brightly on a heavy pitch with both teams having even possession, the early nerves soon died down and the Robins started to gain slightly more possession with some lively runs down the flanks from Ewan Anderson on the right and Alec Larsson-Carter on the left. Rockets front man Deji Akinpelu looked dangerous and timed his runs well but fortunately for the Robins this was not to be his day due to poor finishing in front of goal. The Juniors Robins opened the scoring with a shot from A;ec Latrsson-carter, he struck the ball well but the Rockets keeper spilled the ball only for Ewan Anderson to have a simple tap in 0 - 1.
The Rockets applied pressure but Budleighs's back 4 held firm. HT 0 - 1. Rockets came out all guns firing and equalised early on in the second half with a well taken goal 1 - 1. Alec Larsson-Carter and Ewan Anderson continued to cause the hosts more problems which resulted in a goal by Alec Larsson-Carter who lost his marker and broke through the Rockets defence to to regain the lead with a superb strike beating the Rockets keeper 1 - 2. at the other end the Rockets big man continued to cause problems for the visitors defence but the finishing touch was not enough. Alec Larsson-carter produced another fine run beating the off side to make it 1 - 3.
The Rockets pulled another back with 15 minutes to go 2 - 3. The game was now being brought to the visitors who withstood the attacking force of the Rockets. The Robins counter attacked but chances were missed at both ends of the pitch. FT 2 - 3. Another gritty performance by the junior Robins with a special mention must go to Alec Larsson-Carter and Ewan Anderson who caused the Rockets trouble all morning. Well done to the Rockets who never gave up and continued to chase the game until the final whistle.
Under 14's League Cup Rnd 2 - Budleigh 8 - 0 Honiton
Junior Robins on Song
Budleigh's Under 14s, hosted a higher league opposition Honiton Town in the Youth league cup this weekend. The game started with immediate pressure on the visitors 18 yard box, the pressure paid off with a good strike on 4 minutes from Joe walker hitting the net. The Juniors Robins defence had little to cope with and what pressure the were put under was easily dealt with. It was the visitors who had the next chance (against the run of play) when their number 4 had a run and shot only for Josh Mingo (stand in GK) tipped it onto the bar and bounce to safety. The Robins continued to dominate with a further 2 goals coming from striker James Clarke. HT 3 - 0.
The second half started in the same vein with the hosts dominating the game. Defender Tom Rockey made a run from his own 18 yard box taking on and beating a player before screaming the length of the pitch to score a contender for goal of the season. Honiton Town were down and out but for their No 11 and No 4 who consistently attempted to beat the Robins back four but to no avail.
Further goals came from Joe Taylor (back after 18 months), Owen Cresswell, Nathan Penhallurick and Josh Worthington. Credit to HonitonTown who played the whole game with 10 men. FT 8 - 0
