Exwick 2 v 4 Seaton
Exwick raced out of the blocks from kick-off, caught the Seaton defence napping, hit the post and then scored all inside two minutes.
Seaton regrouped and on 7 minutes after some good passing play Liam Barribal had a sight of goal but as the defence closed in on him he slid a clever pass to the right as Tom Fouracre came running in, unmarked, and made it one a piece with a simple tap in.
The Exwick keeper denied Barribal two further opportunities to score but lost out in the 30th minute as George Harwood went on a great run on the right, down to the touchline, brought the ball into the box and sent a pass across goal for the unmarked Barribal to tap in from 3 yards. Exwick had the ball hit the woodwork a couple of times and equalised on 35 minutes after some more defencive frailty, the half finishing 2-2.
Both sides worked hard in the second half searching for a winner. The Seaton defence of Ollie Page, captain Harry Johnstone and particularly Johnny House thwarted most of Exwick's attacks. Seaton also battled hard upfront but didn't quite have the sharpness of touch and passing that has been a pleasure to watch for the last few matches. Then in the 28th minute a moment of brilliance. Dave Lyon won a tackle out on the left, brought the ball into midfield skipping past 3 more challenges and delivered the bread and butter forward pass that Barribal had been waiting for. His pace left the Exwick defence standing and his cross goal shot entered the goal just inside the far post. Seaton scored a fourth in injury time as Lyon again sent a forward pass that this time George Richards raced in to seal the win. The victory takes Seaton ahead of Exwick in the table.
For the second week running Sam Riley was Seaton's man of the match for some outstanding saves.
Seaton 3 - 2 Alphington Cup Match
This first round cup tie gave Seaton a difficult task against a strong side from the first division. It proved to be a very exciting game played at a high tempo and in the last few minutes could have been won by either side.
Liam Barribal had two good chances in the first few minutes of the game, the second a volley after a terrific pass from George Harwood, but neither chance found the net. Both sides created chances until the deadlock was broken in the 17th minute when Harwood again found Barribal who beat the offside trap and despite being tugged back struck an angled shot into the goal for 1-0. In the 28th minute the visitors keeper stepped over the 18 yard line before releasing the ball for a drop kick and the referee gave a free kick on the edge of the area. George Richards, who had an excellent game in midfield, found the back of the net from the free kick giving the home side a 2-0 lead at half time.
The second half saw both sides raise the tempo again, if this was possible. Seaton's passing improved still more with Harry Robson, Tom Fouracre, Richards and Barribal combining well to knock the ball around and create several chances to seal a victory. But Alphington showed more urgency in their attacks and were rewarded with a goal in the 11th minute and the match became a nail biting affair when they equalised in the 34th minute. As extra time loomed, Robson crossed a ball from the right, Fouracre moved it on 10 yards and slid a pass to Barribal who ran forward and as he lined up his shot saw Richards run through the centre and chose to pass the ball to his feet and Richards knocked it home for what must be a winner. Still more drama as just on full time Alphington had the ball in the back of the net only for the referee to disallow it for an infringement.
Jonny House played a solid game in defence but keeper Sam Riley was Seaton's man of the match for his outstanding saves which denied Alphington more goals.
